Bought to replace the adapter that came with my cell phone corded headset. Explained to RS sales person what I needed this to do and was sold this. Stereo worked awesome. If that was my primary use would be ok, but would not allow the microphone in my headset to work with phone on a phone call. People could not hear me. Went to cell phone store and bought what looked exactly the same and works great. Buyer BEWARE do not throw your reciept away too soon!!!

Step 1. Plug the adaptor into the phone

Step 2. Plug the 3.5mm headphones into the adaptor

Step 3. Listen to stereo sound from your cell phone.

Couldn't be simpler and it works great!

I have one of the Otterbox skins on my E71x and this adaptor works great with that. No modifications were needed on anything.

I'd definately recommend this product for this phone.

This cable will work with Samsung phones that have the 2.5mm plug (such as the Samsung Sways adaptor).

It clicks into place firmly. The only issue is the price for such a small cable, I may want to look for another alternative.

Comments about RadioShack 2.5mm to 3.5 mm Cell to Stereo Adapter:

I have used this on three different phones. If the phone has a mic on the phone included headphones, this will not work. You will have to order an adapter online or go to a cell phone specialty store. However, if the phone just has regular headphones (no mic) this would work great! I currently use it with no problems on my Nokia E71. I could not get this to work with my LG phones (mic/stereo problems as reported in other reviews). I'm returning to buy another one for my car.

Comments about RadioShack 2.5mm to 3.5 mm Cell to Stereo Adapter:

I read a comment about it not working properly with a Voyager phone and I had experienced the same problem. However, the problem was with the phone (Verizon). I brought my headphones, the adapter and phone to a local VZ store and they even tried a pair of their own headphones and it didn't work. We put my adapter and headphones into a floor model phone and the audio came out just fine. Spoke with "tech support" at the VZ store and he said that's just the way it is and it is how his works. I ended up with a replacement phone and it's been fine ever since.

I bought this adapter for my LG Voyager and i have the same exact problems as everybody you "you have to plug in half way or some type of werk to put in" it was great at first because i could put a micro sd card which had my songs and i thought to myself no more dragging around and ipod or PSP but what a waste of money im bringing this thing back dont waste your money on it either suck it up and walk around with an ipod or buy a 2.5mm headphones which are expensive but they last longer than this junk

I had a 1/8" to 1/8" male/male adapter cord for iPods in my car, but I needed this adapter to connect my cell phone's mp3 player to my car. This adapter works great with my existing cord. You can't hear any interference. The only downside is that this 2" adapter is [$]. A bit pricey for my taste (hence only 4 stars), but now I can play music from my phone or iPod.

Comments about RadioShack 2.5mm to 3.5 mm Cell to Stereo Adapter:

The adapter stayed in and didn't slip out [...]but honestly it was a lot better than the Maxell one I got from a store downtown. The Maxell would slip, and every time it reconnected with the inside of my phone (Samsung i760) it would activate a voice-command thing. The adapter from RadioShack is great because it locks into the phone and stays there, without activating any voice-command or bringing up the phone dialog. After much searching, I would say this is the best bet for a cell phone to headphone adapter anywhere.

We purchased this unit to adapt a 2.5 cell phone stereo jack to a 3.5 and the man on duty assured me it would work great. I asked about the "Stereo" and would it includ the Microphone input. His response, "Of Course".

Well as is becoming more and more the case he was 100% wrong.

He made no further comment and began aligning things on the shelf. I was not even thanked for the purchase. How long will they be open???

It goes back to the store tomorrow. If they list this review I'll be surprised but it would instill a little trust in the organization.

Comments about RadioShack 2.5mm to 3.5 mm Cell to Stereo Adapter:

Excellent adapter! Basically it comes down to this, I bought this adapter to use in my car after previously buying one that worked for only one side of my car. After searching up for possible reasons why it was only working for one side of my car i learned different cellphones take different adapters. What i mean by different adapters is that each adapter has different amounts of black bands on the silver part of it. as you can see this has three black bands, those three lines on the silver part, while some adapters, like the the one i bought previously, have only two!! so after buying this it worked perfectly with my nokia e71x, so if you're having trouble with this try using an adapter with two rather than three black rings because this one works flawless for my cellphone!

Comments about RadioShack 2.5mm to 3.5 mm Cell to Stereo Adapter:

I couldn't seem to find this adapter anywhere. I once again found myself at radio shack and they indeed have this piece. Now there are other similiar, better designed adapters there, but non of them worked properly. Only the right side of the stereo sound would work. This adapter is specifically designed for those with the stupid 2.5 input jack that is in most cell phones. Its designed for those that want to listen to music, on their mp3 enabled cell phones. Sound is good, but I dont like the design. It bends in an awkward way, but oh well, the point is it works. I don't like the price either, it should be half this price. But it works and thats all that matters

I'm tech savvy. Doesn't work with an LG enV2. Push your (any brand or type, tried several) stereo headphone mini plug in all the way you get one side. Maybe if you pull it out part way you can get the exact point where you get the other channel too. Or not. It's obviously been out a while. Why doesn't RS tell you what it won't work with and give you a working alternative? HUH? Come on RS get with it! At least sell us tech people a 4 conductor male plug we can make our own, then we'll KNOW it works right. Geez! The only way I'd recommend this is to tell a friend TRY IT FIRST IN THE STORE. Shame on me, I didn't.

I bought one, brought it home and only got sound from the right ear piece. Thought it was defective (as the package had clearly been sold to someone prior to me) so I brought it back. Replacement (from a clearly unopened package) had the same problem. Phone is a Nokia Music XPress 5300, headphones are Philips SHE9850. The adapter does not warn of any incompatibility issues.

Was perfect for the first month, gave stereo sound from my cell just like it's supposed to. Now I only get mono sound unless I bend the cable in a certain way. I never jerked on the cable or bent it at hard angles, it just went through normal, casual use; putting it in my pocket or in the cup holder of my car. I'm [*] that I actually spent [$] on this little cable rather than ordering it online from somewhere else for cheaper. This price is ridiculous for the quality and your much better of getting it from somewhere else. This one is just too fragile.

This adapter has that slimmer area from the plug to the base which allows it to get all the way in to my phone's 2.5mm jack (LG). So many of the other adapters outthere are too bulky to be full inserted. Hence people complain about mono sound. Willing to pay a few $ more for something that works.

I bought a LG Voyager phone with the MP3 player built into it. The jack is the smaller 2.5mm size and the regular headphones are 3.5mm (1/8") size. Also the smaller size has 4 channels or bands and the headphones have 3 channels or bands. This adapter works perfectly with this phone and my headphones. Both ends fit tight in the connections. I wish the end that fits into the phone was a 90 degree angle. That is why I only gave it a 4 out of 5 rating.

This adapter connects only three of the four 3.5mm contacts to the 2.5mm connector. Those that are connected are not mapped to their equivalent positions on the 2.5mm connector. Labeling the 3.5mm contacts from the tip as ABCD, the mapping (3.5mm ==> 2.5mm) == (ABCD, xBAD) where x is not connected. Do not use for applications that require a one-to-one mapped 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter.

I tried a standard 2.5 to 3.5mm adapter (2 of them actually) and all I got was one ear of sound. This one works with my new Motorola W755 - the store clerk was kind enough to let me try it first. It's just the right length so you don't end up with too much cable when attaching your favorite earbuds. Strange that no one at Verizon or Motorola was aware that I needed this type of adapter - 4 pole instead of 3 pole.

I then purchased another adapter which only works on one side of the car. Although it looks better, this works and gives you a longer extension to use phone. I use my phone for GPS, mp3, everything and I can hear all sounds from phone on car speakers including text message noises, etc.

One issue I used to have is when someone calls, even if I use my bluetooth, the sound automatically goes into car speakers but I think this is because of the previous adapter I used. Back when I originally had this adapter, the phone call would fully switch to bluetooth (input and output). I believe I will get same results again.

Comments about RadioShack 2.5mm to 3.5 mm Cell to Stereo Adapter:

Works great but most Radio Shack stores do not stock the item or don't have a clue what it is. Because the size is small, this is an easy item to loose. And when I try to replace it, they don't have one.

If you find one, buy two.

Comments about RadioShack 2.5mm to 3.5 mm Cell to Stereo Adapter:

This product does work with the LG Venus, but you have to make sure to push it in pretty good to get both channels, and for some reason moving the cable around a lot makes it cut in and out between one and two channels.

Mostly bought because I don't want to wait online for something. Price is a sham. But oh well.

Comments about RadioShack 2.5mm to 3.5 mm Cell to Stereo Adapter:

Let me clear up some mystery. If your phone is meant to take PLAIN OLD HEADPHONES, and use only bluetooth for hands-free talking, this WON'T WORK. You need a standard stereo 1/8"(3.5mm) to 3/32"(2.5mm) adapter- RS part number 274-373.

This is designed for music phones that will ALSO take a hands free WIRED ear-piece. It has 3 conductors (4 including the ground) for left ear, right ear, and mic. If your phone's jack doesn't HAVE the mic conductor, go with a standard adapter. Hope this helps someone!

I attempted to use this product to connect an LG8350 cell phone to Panasonic RP-HC500 headphones. No, zero, nada, sound came through. The phone works fine with a Jabra handsfree stereo earpiece plugged in. The Panasonic headphones work fine into a wide variety of devices. The sales person did mention that they have had problems with the adapter but "thought" it would work fine with an LG phone. It doesn't. Radio Shack should pull this product and slap their supplier's hand.

Works great with the LG Musiq. Just make sure it is compatible with your phone before you buy it. The length, though short, is perfect. When you combine the nearly 3 foot long adapter supplied with the phone with the nearly 5 feet of headphone cable you end up with a rather cumbersome combination.

Looking at the pinout for both standard TRS 3.5mm jacks (L, R, gnd), and for Motorola RAZR 2.5mm (mic, R, L, gnd), it explains why pulling out a couple mm can get you from 1 channel to 2. Using other jacks, you can get the channels reversed. I don't think the contacts inside are positioned right (on the 3.5mm side), but I don't have the tools on-hand to look into it properly.

If your phone has stereo in it's 2.5mm jack, you will get two channels. Check and make sure your phone has a stereo jack before you buy. If not, buy a mono jack and it will work on both ears/sides. I confirm that this works on the Sprint/Nextel IC902.
