Purchased the camera to tape church services...But there is no AC/DC power adapter available. The part number in the catalog VAR-A3U doesn't exist...So you have to rely on batteries and reset the camera every 10 minutes to avoid the power saver mode..Also there is NO way to disable the power saver mode....

Nice Camera. Had some trouble geting the video to editing. You have to download Windows LIVE movie maker and a k lite codec package. But works nice anfter that. Can't beat the price!!! It doesnt take the same quality pics and videos of a $1000.00 camera but its not a $1000.00! Buy one.

Nice Camera compaired to the competition. [$] Plan on getting aleast a 8g sd card for 2hrs of video. Also plan on buying editing software...around $50-100. Windows movie maker doesn't support mpeg-4 format. It's a pain to convert to make it work. Lots of free trials to figure ou what works for you! All-n-all. A great buy!

I have always been the one to do all the photos and videos in the family. Older now and not so much, but having something compact to carry with high quality when needed, would have been awesome. It was a little too hard to handle and keep still, plus to use indoors I would have to turn on all the lights which changes the mood. I sold it to my son for less than I had in it!

I think this product is amazing! Its so compact and portable. In spite of the small size, the HD is great! I noticed people say that low light quality is poor. I found that by adjusting the ISO manually, the low light picture is very much improved. The LCD screen on the Xacti is bright and clear. The button layout is very easy to understand and there are many features. I strongly recommend this product to anyone looking for an affordable HD camcorder that has the capabilities of a device much higher priced.

I just got this camera and I have to say that it is pretty amazing. I noticed that people have said that the picture in low light is very poor. If you change the settings to manual, this problem will be greatly reduced by choosing ISO yourself. I also use a Sandisk Extreme III memory card. I dont know if that helps the performance, but I am very satisfied.

I liked that you could take photos during video recording or even capture photos out of recorded videos. Takes long to focus particularly for photo shooting. My 7 mp camera which has 3 less megapixels takes better pictures than this and it's a million times faster. The video is good though, needs to have video stabilization mode for sports or you'll get a "jumpy" recording. It's a shame since it's really cute and easy to use with only one hand. I guess for recording the kids I'll just stick to a primarily photo camera with added hd video. I'm getting another camera that's also 720 HD so let's see how this one plays out. It costs a little more but this will be my camera for the next couple of years so I might as well go ahead and spend a little extra to get the best at the most reasonable price for this price range.

This is a great HD camcorder @ 720p(entry level).Why pay more for a regular camcorder? Also takes good photos on camera end. You can't go wrong for the price. Compare to other HD camcorders(there is no comparison $$$$)

I bought this camcorder when my son was born to take pictures and shoot videos of him. The camcorder works very well, easy to operate, and very light I can take it anywhere. I wish that the camera would shoot better in low light situations but other than that I'm very happy with it. I definitly recommend it especially for the price!

I've purchased just about every small consumer camcorder out there in this "pistol" form factor and this is the "Best" of the lot aside from it's more expensive upper end model, the Sanyo HD1010. What makes this the best of the "pistol" types is the sharpness and color saturation and accuracy. There's an Aiptek GVS that has tons more features and recording modes as well as mic input etc- but this Sanyo produces better footage (I own the GVS.)
The clips it produces isn't in a typical AVCHD wrapper in Quicktime which means native editing in iMovie and Final Cut Pro- which is great for Mac users! (This is big as AVCHD clips have to be converted by many NLE's- whereas these clips do not1!!)
The negative aspects are it only records HD in 720P30 mode, there's no 720p60 or 1080p and the image stabilization isn't very good- the best videos will be shot on a tripod!

So if you're looking for the sharpest, best color accuracy and saturation- this is the camcorder you should be looking for!
The clips are editable in most editing programs and work with a Mac perfectly.
Don't forget the poor image stabilzation- so this isn't the best handheld camcorder.

I had been waiting for the Sanyo VPC-CA9, which is the waterproof version of this, to come to the US for a while. I finally broke down and bought this camera as I had a vacation coming up. The menu's are a little complicated to use at first, but once you get used to them they are relatively easy. This camera is great as a home video camera. I use it around the house and on vacations. The small size fits perfectly into your pocket and the video and picture qualities are great. The low light quality isn't great but I wasn't expecting it to be for the price. Easy upload to iPhoto if you have a Mac.

One con it has is the fact that you can't charge the battery while its in the camera. You have to take it out to charge. Not the end of the world just more things you have to keep track of.

I still plan on getting the waterproof version when it finally arrives, as I do a lot of outdoor/water activities.

I've read several reviews that talk about video quality being choppy on the computer. I have no issues at all. As well, if you set the camera to sequential mode, you can take 14 pictures in 2 seconds. The picture quality goes down, but not too badly.

Very impressive video quality. The battery life is rather short, but replacement batteries are inexpensive. You need to buy the component cables separate (about $25.00 from sanyo website), but are a must for the HD. Overall a great camera.

I tried this unit before the Vivitar 840x.., and this unit is far superior but not good enough for what I am looking for. I found the unit didn't handle lower light conditoins well (average living room lighting). The audio recording and playback was good as was the video even on my Sony 40" HD tv. Very handy size for travel, I'm just looking for better image quality and the ability to handle lower light levels.

My first video tape camera was a Sanyo and it lasted almost 20 years before I moved on to a Canon, so for my first flash memory videocam, Sanyo seemed a good choice.
Turns out the CG10 is pretty popular and I guess the red version is exclusive to Radio Shack so you'll know who got one there. Mine was the last one at the local store and I'm quite happy with it.

At 720p, this is ground floor HD, but the features and general quality keep it out of the basement. Since the best zoom lens is your feet, 5X is just fine. I like that I can shoot 16:9 stills that don't need to be reformatted for our HDTV. I'm slightly peeved that the RGB cable has to be purchased separately and even more miffed that you can't get it in-store. The fact that AVCHD MPEG4 isn't common yet isn't a fault of the camera and that I'm going to have to get into Blu-ray sooner than I expected for archiving and viewing is not either.

I'm using the CG10 as a traveling camera when I don't want to drag along all my DSLR stuff so having the 10mp option is good. My only complaint about the still quality is that they look like massive noise reduction has been applied even when deselected in the menu.(see the uploaded image)
All in all, though the CG10 is a welcome addition to my ever-growing digicam collection.

Needed a camcorder to document our Church youth group's trip to New Orleans. Wanted compact, ability to shoot both video and stills, decent optical zoom. This little unit is Outstanding! Used in difficult circumstances, including from the 3rd level at the Superdome, and am very pleased with the results. It is quite small, easy to stick in your pocket, the zoom is 5X optical, which really reaches out. Video quality is impressive in decent light, and usable even in poor light.
I didn't expect miracles from this, but I have to say that after using on a week-long trip, I am very impressed with the quality, especially given it's compact size.
Cons: under very low light, video is pretty noisy, but that is to be expected. Have to remove battery to recharge (not a big deal, but something )
Proprietary cable to connect to computer. (come on Sanyo, couldn't you have made a mini-USB connector?)
Very short flash range (not a big deal, it does pretty well without the flash, even under fairly low light)

All in all, I highly recommend this unit. It is very small, even pocketable, and the video and stills are more than adequate for most needs.

This product does not come with software. There is a link to an internet web site that you can download a free version of Quicktime. But, it does not come with software that is compatible with the camera. The free Quicktime provides horrible resolution with the camera's videos. Furthermore, when I called Radio Shack to get help, they referred me to Sanyo. Sanyo said that there was nothing they could do to help me.
They are not willing to provide software for the product they sell.
In addition to the non existent software, Radio Shack and Sanyo both advertise that the camera will take 14 pictures in 2 seconds. It will only take one picture in 2 seconds.
Don't buy it. It is not the camera that is advertised. You will be wasting your money.

Its light and fits well in small spaces. I need a camera close to me when I am with my children to capture the moments. Zip it out, catch the moments and effortlessly slip it back into my pocket while my left hand is holding a bag of groceries. My previous was similar to this model which took alot of beating. Good video quality and easy to use, however overall this camcorder is not well made. The plastic detachable lens protector hanging from a lanyard won't last. The SD card cover is flimsy and also won't last, and the battery compartment is difficult to remove and sure to cause problems. Returning this product.

Battery life *could* be better, but an hour of heavy use isn't unbearable, and if you shop around for spare batteries, you can get one delivered for as little as $10...

Make sure you turn on the Image Stabilization function first thing... and leave it on - makes a world of difference!

I bought this unit to film both car and motorcycle shows. It is lightweight and I keep it in space camera case w/belt loop. The screen is large enough to view through and still watch your footing while walking. Very little shake and great sound playback. It is a must to read the manual and a spare battery would be a necessity if you are an avid photog!!!.

Low light performance still problematic, but better than previous models.

I find it very hard to play back the AVCHD H.264 videos on my computer, they are choppy and freeze.

Played back from the camera using included video cable, the picture is very nice, not nearly HD as in 1080P but, so much better than the 640x480 Iam used to.

Shoots nice 7.5 Megapixel widescreen photos as well as 10 mp normal pics.

I like this as a dual camera as it seems to combine the two, video and photo with adequate quality for both, not best of both worlds, but the ease of use and compactness has won me over. At this price, you'd be hard pressed to find anything better.

Ive been using an earlier (4GB) xacti camcorder for many years. I liked that enough to recommend it to a few friends. Bought this one mainly as a gift for my younger sister. Its a bit larger is size than its older models - mainly to accomodate the larger display. The picture is amazingly good. Sound is much much better than most other comaprables. I ve always really liked the ergonomics and the "take a picture while shooting a movie" feature. And its small and slim enough to easily slip into a pocket.

Easy to use, great picture quality; The least expensive camcorder with an image stabilization feature that you will fine. It has a lot more settings available than the Flip camera (I have one), but you don't have to use them: put it on auto and point and shoot!

Camera is great in concept, but poor execution. Video quality of both the camera and recorder was so poor it was hard to identify my children when I downloaded it to my computer. it works great with linux, the video and pics are stored as std hd-mp4 and jpeg on the sd flash.

ubuntu see's the sd just as another drive when it's attached and vlc has the codec to play the hd720 videos without issue.

very easy to use.

got the cam and a hd-8gb sandisk which provides 2hours of video and or a ton a high res still pics, ie will do both at the same time.

upload to youtube in hd mode very easy and it look great.

the camera is very light weight and shows camera shake even with image stabilization turned on. This is minor for me as the hip pocket portability is key in taking it almost anywhere and everywhere which is why I wasn't lugging around my big bad 10 lbs cannon.

I got this for my birthday and lovin' it all the way.. At first I was hesitant in getting this but when i placed it head to head with other similar products from sony and canon, this still prevailed as the runaway winner. Although other portable HD cams offer higher resolution, it bummed when it came to switching it to still shots.

A few items to note though, the still photo quality isnt really as crisp as that of canon's and sony's but will still make do. The video on the other hand is really nice even at night. And there's also the convenience of uploading it right away to the web or to an iPhone without much work needed.

Overall, Id give this a 9/10 .

i got this camera because i was looking for some time for a digital camcorder, but nothing was good. i tried couple of the low and high end, but when i got this in store i had to get it. it's a great combo. not only have the camcorder in it but also you can take pictures (10 MPs)! battery life is decent and a 4GB SD card gives you an hour of recording time, double that and you have 2 hours. flash is pretty strong so it will give you good quality pictures in dark rooms. check out this product, try it and love it. if you were looking for digital camera with recording option you found it. it's worth the money.watch the youtube video in HD and you'll get the idea[@]

i got mine on sale for [$]. 10MP camera, 720p HD video. Video is not the best nor is the camera.... but for the money it can not be beat. I just wanted to record quick short family events nothing special.. this works like a charm. If you are looking for professional grade video this is not your camera... but for [$] the video is amazing and so are the pictures... no matter how you look at it - its still way better than my hi8 camcorder. (which cost me $900 back in the day)

Yes, it is HD BUT the HD playback on a computer is going to choppy and as far as watching on an HDTV...FORGET ABOUT IT...unless you go to Sanyo's web site and buy a $25 component cable. All that is included with this camcorder is a regular AV cable. That being said I got this on sale [$] and it has features that cannot be found at this price level. 5X Optical zoom & good battery life.

This camera is just amazing for the price, I mean really compared other HD cameras in it's price range such as the Kodak Zi6, Flip Mino HD, Creative Vado HD this one is the BEST by far!!!Honestly it's packed full of features! I can't even begin to start: Amazing HD quality video and photo isn't too bad either, awesome zoom and auto focus. There's soo many options and tweaks which those other HD cameras for this price don't have!My only few gripes is that I don't personally like rechargeable flat batteries they're too expensive and doesn't seem to hold a charge to well. I like AAA and AA rechargeable better since if you have a dead battery you can just pop another one instead of ordering and waiting for a new battery. Also I think the USB connection is proprietary so...Plus of course low end cameras in this price range never do too well in low light conditions, but this one is not that bad. At the HD mode, the picture/recording quality of camera/video is great even at low light.
Easy to use in both camera and video recording.

First one i bought, the battery was a Lemon, i plugged in the charger and the light indicator flashed constantly and in the manuel it says if the light flashes there is a malfunction. So I exchanged it and started up the new one. The zoom is not to good and the focus is just horrible. Compared to my Flip Mino HD this camera is junk.

I had been looking for a digital video camera to replace my old VHS-C video camera and found this one on sale. This one runs circles around the old one and uses SD card storage: no more bulky, noisy VHS-C tapes.
If it were any smaller, it would be difficult to hold, but as it is, it fits easily in my hand and in my pocket when not in use. It shows well on my 50" plasma TV. Detail is good. With some video-editing software, replay is jerky, but fine in others.
I don't think this camera can be beat for the price. It includes an AC charger, USB cable and tether lens cap. My only complaint is the price of an extra battery is one-third the cost of the camera!

For the price, this is a great little dual camera. It is just the right size (easily fits in a pocket) takes good standard and HD video and acts as a servicable point and shoot digital camera. Here are some cons:• Proprietary USB – What’s up with that? Sanyo – stick with micro or mini USB like every other camera on the market!• 5X Optical Zoom – Ok, I know you’d need a bigger lens for more zoom but for me I’d like a little more (12x would be fine).• No HDMI cable with it – I would have thought it would come with one• Battery needs to be taken out to be charged. • Camera sucks the battery down when plugged into the computer and it does not charge while plugged into the computer.Here are some pros:• Form factor – I’ve never had a pistol type camera and I really like it.• Controls are very simple and easy to use• Love that you can snap a picture while recording video• The 720p HD video is very good• It speaks well with my Mac thanks to mpeg-4. I have been looking at this for a while but could not find it available anywhere until May 1. Then as I was doing a search on 4/24 it came up on that Radio Shack had it in Red, which I thought was interesting since Sanyo makes no mention of a red VPC-CG10. Everything I’ve seen says they only make Black and Pink. [$]I’m glad I found this and am using today instead of waiting for it to get here. I tried an Apitek and Insignia and hated them both (and they were a pain to get to work with a mac). They were priced comperable and I don’t think they hold a candle to this.So far so good. I highly recommend this camera to anyone looking for a dual camera that can be carried around in a pocket or purse for quick use when needed.

easy to use, although menus are tricky... Nice pictures...Very Good Zoom.. Filmed a bunch of short videos around the house. Hooked it to the 40" lcd and video was Ok. Uploaded to Net and HD was very good. Has looked at the sanyo camera before, last years model, and it was only 5MP. This one at 10MP with HD video seems to be a significant upgrade. Does well in bright light and indoor light. Dim light at dusk was not as High qulaity, yet very clear.
