Eliminates Prius stereo whine

Best Uses:
Prius aux audio input

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about RadioShack Ground Loop Isolator:

My Toyota Prius has an auxiliary audio input to the stereo, but my scanner, XM satellite radio, or iPod powered by the car's cigarette lighter plug created a ground loop that exposed the car's inverter whine. This isolator (really an audio transformer) interrupts the ground loop and delivers great audio. In fact, I could swear that the XM radio sounded better after installation of this isolator. The isolator has male RCA phono plugs on both ends, both input and output, so procure the necessary adapters to connect to your equipment.[...]

I was trying to couple a TV audio output to a Kliptch Promedia 5.1 PC surround system and had tons of hum and tried to isolate the problem. I added the isolator and the problem is solved, no more hum, the amp is whisper quiet now even at max volume, works excellent.

Works GREAT
By Frank236Verified Reviewer from Barnegat, NJ on 12/7/2009
Pros:
Beats other alternatives, Easy To Install
Cons:
NOT same item in store, Slightly Expensive
Best Uses:
PC to Stereo
Describe Yourself:
Practical
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about RadioShack Ground Loop Isolator:

Item "almost" completely eliminated 60 cycle/ripple ground loop condition in my PC to stereo setup. It does reduce power (that's why some IPODS don't work with it) and 50-60hz tones that go to the stereo. It's a filter NOT an isolator and uses power absorption @ ~50-60Hz to eliminate hum. This freq. translates to a 4 string bass guitar. Readjust your stereo Freq. settings and you'll never notice the difference. Eliminating the hum is worth the minor drawbacks. The item on the web is not the same as in-store. The in-store is a barrel and comes with a PC cord adaptor.

This product is amazing. I was being harassed day and night by ground loops. Everywhere I looked, everywhere I went, ground loops were there waiting to ruin my day.

Recently I stopped by THE SHACK, and my life has been loop-free ever since. I can now live without the constant fear and anxiety of being targeted by ground loops, they are kept in perfect isolation. Thank you RadioShack!!!

Best tool in the audio toolbox!
By Professional Mobile DJ from Puyallup, WA on 8/10/2009
Pros:
Durable, Easy Controls, Easy To Install, Great Picture
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about RadioShack Ground Loop Isolator:

This is critical if you are using any computer with an audio system. I bought this because I use my laptop when I DJ, and I connect it to my DJ mixer. The humming is due to the AC power supply that keeps the laptop powered. I can't use a laptop battery only for my events, so I bought 2 of these and work so well! The static and hum is gone, definitely worth buying!

This product fixed the annoying hum that came from my surround sound speaker system when watching TV. The only con was that it seems to have made the volume level weaker, but it is really minor. Would recommend that you try this "inexpensive" option before doing anything too crazy!

Eliminates hum from computer audio jack to amplifier. Can now use computer ac line instead of the battery. Minimal to no loss of music frequency range. If audio source is phat - it's phat. If audio source is thin - well, you get the idea. Price is great and the 3.5mm mini plug "y" adapter is real handy. Helps eliminate hum from a microphone mixer into the computer. Quite versatile.

Low Frequency Ground Loop Isolator
By PyBrick ReplicasVerified Reviewer from Castro Valley, CA on 7/13/2009
Pros:
Bi-Directional, Color-Coded Connectors, Easy To Install, Good for Low Frequencies, Stereo Adapter Included
Cons:
Not for High Frequencies
Best Uses:
Home Stereo
Describe Yourself:
Almost an Audiophile, Gearhead, Practical
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about RadioShack Ground Loop Isolator:

My home stereo system includes a computer that induces a very audible hum. Installing the Ground Loop Isolator eliminated the low frequency hum. There is still some buzz from 1kHz to 5kHz that remains, but only when the computer is off. There is only silence when the computer is on. Movie audio quality seems to be fine. I will have to listen to some music to gauge the audio quality accurately; however, I do not use it for music as much as movies. Perhaps the others got damaged or DOA items. To sum it up, this is good for getting rid of low frequency hum, but I am not sure about it getting rid of the high frequency buzz as well. Good product.

Comments about RadioShack Ground Loop Isolator:

Our church runs an auxiliary out from the mixer to the computer for recording the sermons. For some reason, our new setup created a lot of hum in the recording. Did some online research, narrowed the problem down to ground loop, installed the isolator from Radio Shack, and the hum was greatly reduced (not completely gone). For all intents and purposes, it's not audible anymore (unless you crank the volume on the recording during the silences).

Comments about RadioShack Ground Loop Isolator:

This device is great for when you live in a apartment with poor ground loop problems and
you are running a long 40 foot cord from your
home computer to your home stereo or home theater
system. Still you need more audio adapters to
connect to your stereo system. Also this is great for connecting a real good set of computer speakers with subwoofer to a boombox with CD player. I would recommend this for home users of laptops with a jukebox running a very long cord
from your computer to the stereo system.

Best Uses:
Aircraft power isolation
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about RadioShack Ground Loop Isolator:

During a Sunday, 11th hour complete rework of an aircraft audio distribution system, I discovered a ground loop created by our two 60Hz and one 400Hz power systems. The aircraft HAD to be flight ready Monday morning. Running to the local Radio Shack, I purchased one of these and installed it. It now works perfectly with no power background hum or noise. And yes, it does kill 400Hz. Radio Shack once again saved my bacon. Thank you.

Comments about RadioShack Ground Loop Isolator:

Was installing an auxiliary input module in a Mazda to be able to play an iPod through the factory radio. Hooked it up, turned it on, and all I heard was intolerable buzzing and static. Knew it was a grounding issue. Picked one of these up at my local RS, hooked it up in 30 seconds in the parking lot and Voila! crystal clear. Can't beat this little device, especially for the price. This is why RS is awesome. Could I have ran over to my local big box and found this? I don't think so.

Comments about RadioShack Ground Loop Isolator:

I bought the unit because I had background hum from my PC to an amplifier. A DVD to TV to amp input was also connected. It worked fine.

However, I had a direct cable connection to my TV because I use a cable card. I later got a cable modem. And that additional unit caused the hum to return.

After some experimentation, I switched the GLI from the PC in line to the DVD in line and the hum again disappeared.

Comments about RadioShack Ground Loop Isolator:

I have a nice kenwood powered subwoofer that, before this, was not living up to expectations. I could never turn it up to even close to full volume or it would sound like it was about to blow. Also had a slight hum whether or not my system was on.

I put this directly before the wiring reached my sub input and it not only eliminated the hum, but it allowed me to crank the sub volume to full and my system to full. COMPLETELY made the difference that was long overdue. -home theater complete-

Comments about RadioShack Ground Loop Isolator:

I have a guitar effect box that one end was connected to an instrument amplifier, the other end to a laptop USB port for recording audio on the computer. When I plug in the laptop power supply, it generates a strong humming noise in the instrument amplifier. As soon as I removed the power supply, all was quiet. Since I can't run it on battery whenever I'm doing recording, I searched around the internet and found this ground isolator device. I bought it, connect it between the instrument amp and the effects box, the noise was immediately cut off. Amazing. Works as advertised. (Has not confirmed if there's loss in audio fidelity, though).

Using one of these Ground Loop Isolators with a Mini Recorder Control (43-1237), a 1/8" phono coupler, and a 1/8" phono (mono) to dual RCA adapter, I am able to easily record and hear phone calls through my computer. Bravo for Radio Shack adapters!

I docked the product 1 star because it only comes with 1 RCA-to-phono adapter. In order to use the Ground Loop Isolator between my computer and a Mini Recorder Control, I needed 2 additional adapters. Fortunately, they all work brilliantly.

Didn't solve it, but new RCA's did!
By ed from Brooklyn, NY on 12/7/2007

Comments about RadioShack Ground Loop Isolator:

I took the thing back, and bought short shielded
RCA's (Radio Shack's Gold Series) to replace my old
ones, and that completely eliminated the noise --
even though i'm almost completely sure the problem
was ground loop. (unplugged off one of the components,
and noise was gone)

Bottom line -- go for more shielding if you can.
It's more expensive, but worth it.

If you still have hum or hiss after installing this or you loose any aspects of your music or audio program the fault is typically somewhere else in your system. Check other connections for proper polairity and that they are clean and make good contact. It can also be possiable that you need more than one down your audio path.

Comments about RadioShack Ground Loop Isolator:

I purchased this to resolve a groundloop problem I was having with a device I use on my computer for recording my own guitar music. I shopped around and found this was the cheapest audio isolation transformer I could buy, so I wasn't expecting much. Well, I am happy to say this thing works beautifully. My noise issue is gone and doesn't degrade the audio even when playing full range, commercially produced songs through it.

In regards to the ...
By Stephen L from Orlando, FL on 4/27/2007

Comments about RadioShack Ground Loop Isolator:

In regards to the previous comment about losing the vocals & bass frequencies: use a continuity tester to double-check the wiring & adapters. That situation will occur when your left & right signals are summed to mono, and one of the left/right signals is also out of polarity with regard to the other (signal & ground are reversed on one of the two channels). Depending on their quality, an isolation transformer (what this device is) may slightly reduce the very high or very low frequencies, but won't eliminate bass frequencies, cut vocals or change the stereo "image". Look for a reversed cable or incorrectly wired adapter somewhere. Best of luck to you.

Comments about RadioShack Ground Loop Isolator:

I have a 2007 lexus is 250. I had a stereo store install my sirius sportster through the ipod port. I was getting a high pitch humming noise that no one could figure out (it got louder as i accelerated). Finally, someone at radio shack suggested the ground loop isolator. They hooked it up directly from the sirius to the ipod jack, and it completely eliminated the noise/feedback with no loss of sound quality. great product!

Pros:
Easy to use, Good Value

Comments about RadioShack Ground Loop Isolator:

I used the device to get rid of the electrical interference caused when I connected my MP3 player (hooked up to my radio via a wired FM transmitter) to the cigarette lighter. It does its job nicely but as mentioned before, the sound quality is affected, too. Fortunately, I could compensate for it somewhat by using the built-in MP3 player equalizer.

By Russ W from North Carolina on 10/1/2006
Pros:
Easy to use

Comments about RadioShack Ground Loop Isolator:

This ground loop isolator will eliminate your ground loops (great for cars) at the expense of your audio quality. Granted, some people may not notice but I do - it puts out a flat, tinny sound which, when compared to the whine it eliminates, isn't worth the cost.

By Andy S from DC on 9/13/2006
Pros:
Easy to use, Reliable

Comments about RadioShack Ground Loop Isolator:

I use this on my home theater system which has a grounded receiver and a grounded tube amp on the same circuit. Even though I use a power conditioner which eliminates a lot of the hum, it's still very noticeable. Unfortunately, this isolator product cuts the signal level significantly so that I must turn the tube amp really high to match the receiver's multi-channel output. This causes the tube amp to produce a noticeable hum which kind defeats the purpose of the isolator. It also creates a dangerous situation if I forget to turn the volume level down before switching to another input on the tube amp. Beware of the other reviews which say it doesn't degrade performance - it most certainly does!
