This unit worked great right out of the box. It takes some time to aquire the satalites, even longer on a cloudy day, but when it finds them, it doesn't lose them unless you go under a bridge too long or thru a tunnel.

I love this thing. I have rented cars with Hertz Neverlost in the past, but no more. This device was ready to go right out of the box and aquired the satellites immediately. It also recomputed directions very quickly whenevver I missed a turn. It does not say the streets, but who cares...it shows the street name on the top and gives the distance to the turn below. I really liked how it gave an estimated time of arrival. Worked very well for going from Phoenix to SanDiego. Once in San Diego, we found the beaches and restaurants within minutes and even had a phone number if we needed it.

Don't believe all the reviews that put down the TomTom. I now have both the Garmin and a TomTom. While both have good features BOTH also have there down points. I like the fact that the TomTom always shows you an arrow on the map page which way you need to take the next turn. And that you can customise the map screen. There are some missing roads on the TomTom that the Garmin has, and some missing on the Garmin that the TomTom has. The Garmin is a well built machine and works well, as does the TomTom. So buy what you want, but just don't believe all the badmouthing of the TomTom by the Garmin owners, I actually perfer the TomTom.

We live in the UP of Michigan, so there isn't much need for it here because there isn't much in the UP...haha, but my family lives in Racine/Kenosha, wi. (about 8 hours away) we wanted to stop at the apple store in Milwaukee-punched the address in and it took us right there, we even got lost for a little bit, because of construction but the gps got us right back on the roads we needed to be on. On our way back home we decided to go through Chicago to do some sight seeing. the gps did a good job on that also, it had the sears tower, shedd aquarium, harpo studios and almost anything else you wanted to see there! it was great! we then made our way through Indiana, and then back into Michigan. It did a great job letting us know when the toll roads were coming up and what roads to stay on. this is Defintaly a good buy and very compact so it does not get in your way! We plan to do some more traveling also, this comes in handy because when you are in an unfamiliar place and just want to get a bite to eat not knowing were anything is you could be looking for a while, but with the gps you just look for the type of restaurant you want and BOOM, you are in and outta that place like nothing!! GREAT, i dont know how i survived without this!!

I've had a MIO for about a year until someone else decided that they needed it worse than I did. So the loss of the unit plus a broken window on the car to boot prompted me to look for another unit. So this is where the Garmin came into my life. I am glad to have this unit now as it is far easier to use than my MIO was. Plus it has got a way better support for it than MIO which had none!! In short I like it very much and would recommend it to anyone looking for a GPS unit. Just don't let it out of your sight!!!

Exchanged my Tom Tom One for this unit. It is better in EVERY way. Easier menus, better battery life, MUCH better car mount than the tom tom. Very easy to install the mount, and it articulates well. Also very easy to take the unit out of.

The maps are more detailed, and having the actual street name you are turning on at the top of the screen is a nice feature. Another great feature is that the plug for the power adapter is on the back of the unit, instead of on the bottom. It allows you to place the unit closer to your dash.

Overall, this is the best lower cost unit out there.

It's ready right out of the box. I was afraid it would be difficult to view the screen during bright daylight. In fact, it's even better than the $2000 factory unit. The icon buttons are just the right size too. I set mine to a British lady's voice. You can download multiple vehicle icons easily just copy and paste them once you're plugged into the computer. It would be great if they give you a carrying case though. It doubles as a home digital picture frame too, so if you plan to use that feature, get the Nuvi 200W. The 4.3" screen is more suitable for that purpose

this is a really nice unit. i had the Navigon 2100 which the only thing i liked was the reality view and it showed the icon of resaturants. the Garmin lacks tht but overall i am very happy with this. its good to cause u can keep track of time driven and top speed which i think is coo. the unit is very easy to use and i like the safe mode feature. tht should be a must on ALL gps units. SO FOR THE MONEY THIS IS THE ONE TO GET.

AWESOME.Dwngrd from Nuvi 300 to Nuvi200

Cons:
Doesn't include Canada, No text to speech
Best Uses:

Describe Yourself:
Bad With Directions

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought a Garmin Nuvi 300 for twice the amount of Nuvi 200. I liked that it was the most compact GPS I've seen. I also thought I would need all the features such as BlueTooth, MP3 player etc. But I exchanged it 3 weeks later for the Nuvi 200. Same compact frame and map display. So it doesn't have the Bluetooth & MP3 player. That's what my iPod and BT headset is for. And yes, it doesn't have the selection of Male or Female voices with the French, British, Australian accents...but who cares. Couldn't understand them anyway. [...] The only real difference is the Text to Speech. But the streets are clearly displayed on top of the screen. If that's really important to you and worth [$] more, then I'd get the Garmin Nuvi 300. Otherwise the Nuvi 200 is an excellent choice.

I've tried them ALL. Garmin is the Best
By Clyde from Las Vegas, NV on 12/4/2007

O.k. Some thief STOLE my Nuvi 350. So i decided i didn't want to spend the price for another Nuvi 350 so i went the cheaper route and purchased (and in the end returned), several other units, Tom Tom, Megellin and a few others. They just didn't compare to the Garmin Nuvi System. Believe me, i'm always looking for a DEAL. I don't have to stick with ONE brand just because they spend more money on Marketing. I really thought that i would love the Tom Tom because when you see the commercials, it appears to have it all. But when you buy it, you must Download things like Baskin Robins, and other stores. Also, i live in a fairly new area of Las Vegas, and NONE of the things that were built in the last 2 or 3 years was in the system (nor were they in the other systems i purchased). However, the Nuvi 200 had EVERYTHING. To me, THAT is important. Also, i was advised by the Tom Tom customer service people to go to some website where i had to pay a FEE to update a system that should have been already as updated as possible. At least it should have been updated to 2007. AND, it was a 3rd party site. In the end, I settled on a lower model of the nuvi (went from 350 to the 200) and even the low end nuvi was miles ahead of any of the other units. The only downside is that is doesn't say the street name. But, it displays the name at the top of the screen. So for $100-$200 less, i think i can look up at the screen for the street name.

Nuvi 200, The GPS for the Masses
By GeekFreekVerified Reviewer from Bedford Tx on 8/7/2007

Accurate Maps, Easy Controls, Easy To Follow Directions, Nice Visual Interface, Reliable
Best Uses:
City Driving, Highway Driving, Rural Driving, Small Cars
Describe Yourself:
Commuter, Practical
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The Nuvi is probbably the best novice GPS system ive ever handled. Extremely easy to setup and Navigate with. Personally, the [$] I think is still a bit high based on screen size and lack of Bluetooth or built in Hard drive. The ease of use does wonders. The ONLY problem I had was that the dash ring that give you a place to suction, the tape does not hold up very well in heat.. Have yet to figure out a good solution for that.. You can download customizeable cars off the website, so now I display as a Tank, which I think is pretty funny.
