Comments about Sanyo Sanyo Easy Street™ NVM-4370 GPS Receiver:

Bought this 2 weeks ago[$]. Looked like a lot of features for the money (many I would not use) I just wanted a basic GPS with text to speech. The Sanyo filled the bill and I was satisfied with the maps and functions. Used it about 5 times and then the unit locked up. I did a reset and it worked 1 more time and then would not respond to anything I did. Sanyo tech support was of no help. Returned it to Radio Shack for a replacement but was out of stock. Got a refund. This unit would have been great had it worked for more than a week.

THIS IS THE BEST GADGET THERE IS IN THE MARKET FOR SUCH A LOW PRICE!!!!!!!!!!!!! signal is very fast, directions are very accurate.
BATTERY LIFE COULD BE A LIITLE BETTER, 4 HOURS IS NOT ENOUGH........
MOUNTING CAN BE BETTER, WHEN I MOUNT MY GPS AND START USING THE TOUCH SCREEN, THERE IS A PART OF THE SCREEN THAT GETS VERY SENSITIVE ON THE BACK OF THE THIS GADGET........
EASY TO USE, AND THE BEST OF ALL IS THAT YOU GET TO SEE YOUR PICS OR MOVIES OR EVEN LISTEN TO YOUR MUSIC TO YOUR CAR SYSTEM VIA BLUETOOTH!!!!!!!!

Comments about Sanyo Sanyo Easy Street™ NVM-4370 GPS Receiver:

I am a claims adjuster, so I am on the road going to different addresses all day, every day. I lost my previous portable MIO, and since this SANYO was priced nicely AND it said street names (unlike my MIO), I figured I'd buy it. The first day I used it while going places I already knew how to get to so I could see how accurate it was. It wasn't. I played with the settings each time until it finally kicked in with accuracey. Turns out I needed to put the setting for "prefers highway" (I think, I'm going off of memory), and suddenly it worked like a gem with directions. Now, after three weeks of constant daily use, I'm really happy with it. I haven't used the other features so I can't comment on those. I don't mount it, it usually rides on my lap, so I can't comment on the mounting device either.
The only downfall is when I turn it off in one location, and then turn it on again in another location, it takes a very long time to find the new location and start giving new directions. This was the same problem I had with the MIO that was lost...

Comments about Sanyo Sanyo Easy Street™ NVM-4370 GPS Receiver:

I've been using the product since I received it in 2 days from Radio Shack. Since there wasn't one at the store I kind of bought site unseen. Overall, I really like the unit, however the maps tend to be outdated somewhat (not showing streets I needed to find, with online mappers showing the streets) and no way so far to update the mapping so far. I got this unit more for navigation in areas I'm not too familiar with, and mainly for rural highways than looking for streets so it should do a good job for a number of years for me. But I'd rate it higher only if the maps were way better

This unit came with computer connection but can not charge it. I have taken it to 2 radio shacks to try to get an ac adaptor. The one I would need to purchace was $33.00 [...] Instructions say charge it in the car for 4 hours! I guess yo just need to drive around and charge the thing in order to set it up! What a pain. I was very disappointed, I purchased this for my daughter who left to spend 6 months in Hawaii. she did not take it with her. Too much trouble.

It is too much functios, but if you think the function for fun, if you travel you do not want to too much gimic with you. then this is the one. i belive, but some of the function, especialy the play video, i belive i have to adjust the size of file for smaller, that is only thing i do not like this GPS so far.

Comments about Sanyo Sanyo Easy Street™ NVM-4370 GPS Receiver:

I bought this GPS during the Memorial Day Sale at Radio Shack, for [$]:(1) It had us going around in circles on the same roads, about a mile from the destination - my son and I almost fell out of our van laughing at the device's directional capabilities, and comparing it with the GPS on my son's Google phone!!!!!!!(2) DO NOT USE THE MP3 Player - chances are, this piece of junk will freeze up and you will never be able to use it again, as it happened to me within 1 day of purchase!!! I read up the reviews which warn about this, a little late in the day.(3) Called the Sanyo Fisher Service Support, and for 2 days, all they would do is tell me to recharge it. One representative asked me to charge it in my car the first time for at least 15-30 minutes and that the "Sanyo" blue intro screen would then go away. I tried it, did not work. Called again the next day to be told that the equipment needed to be charged first in the car for 15-30 minutes, and THEN has to be charged with the USB, on a Computer for at least 2 hours for the blue Sanyo screen to give way to the GPS software - did not work after several attempts.(4) Tried to reload the Software from the CD that came with it to find out that the hard-drive in the GPS was "READ-ONLY" and could not be written to. Called Sanyo/Fisher again and I was asked to return the "defective" GPS to the store.(5) Radio Shack does not have a replacement piece now - [...] Been over a week now since the piece of *@#^ froze up on me.(5) The BEST one is: [...] Never going to buy any Sanyo products in my life again.

I originaly thought that this was a greeat buy, so many features for such a low price! [...]. But you know the old saying, "You get what you pay for". The Fm transmitter is worthless, no matter where you set it on the FM dial it's a very weak signal that is full of static. The menu is very difficult to navigate and not intuitive at all. I put in 2 major roads in my area (Knoxville, TN.) and it didn't recognize either one! On the plus side the bluetooth compatibility seemed to work fairly well and it did read whatever I threw at it in the memory card slot. Overall I was very unimpressed, not even worth the [$] I spent on it, it's going back!

Previous reviews are correct. Some find it simple to use, but it would've been even better if the included CD was automatically detected by my WinXP. Apparently it can't detect the type of program that will work with it.

Comments about Sanyo Sanyo Easy Street™ NVM-4370 GPS Receiver:

I had/have an original Tom Tom One with 3.5" screen which I loved but I was having problems with the battery and decided to upgrade to a larger screen. I was just going to get another Tom Tom since I liked it so much, but saw the price point (about half) and stated features on this one and decided to give it a try. FM transmitter, MP3, Photo Viewer and GPS with a 4.3" screen? Can't hurt to give it a try. I ordered this product when it was on special. Radio Shack online processed my order on a Sunday, shipped on Tuesday and I recieved it on Friday. It acquired the satellite reception in good time and gave good directions. My only problem was that it lacked the feature where you have a listing of your directions so then you can see how it's routing you and if you want to avoid anything. I live near a major city and often any GPS will route me through toll roads and tunnels which, as a local, can be avoided when you know the roads. It aso exits out of the navigation rather arbitraily and to get back in either took a lot of tapping or re-entering te address. I never got around to using the other features (FM transmitter etc.) and I'm returning it. Radio Shack has a great feature where you can return the product to the store which I like.

[$] My main complaint is that it is impossible to buy an extra mounting kit for it (Sanyo claims they are not available separately). It picks up satellites in a matter of seconds when the battery switch remains on, and not much longer when switching the battery switch from off to on. The music features are great! Just insert your SD card with your favorite downloaded music and you can listen with the built-in (pretty decent-sounding) speaker, or run an 1/8" out to other speakers. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Certainly better than I expected. However, had I purchased at the regualar price, this commentary would have been more on the negative side--thank goodness Radio Shack had a ridiculous blow out sale on them. The satellite acquistion is very slow and somehow Las Vegas seems to be growing faster than the orbiting satellites can keep up with. If I were in an unfamiliar city I would trust and I guess that is good enough in a pinch.

I am self employed in the event business. Yesterday was the first real test of this GPS. I had to visit about 5 wedding reception venues in the Denton County TX area. In every case this unit took me about one half mile away from the location that I had programed. In one case it took me to the left on a street several hundred yards when the address was about 1/4 mile to the right! This unit is not nearly as efficient at the Garmin that was stolen out of my car a month ago!

Comments about Sanyo Sanyo Easy Street™ NVM-4370 GPS Receiver:

I purchased this unit because of the camera interface. No other GPS unit priced within several hundred dollars of this unit has that feature. And it works well. Integrated with a backup camera, the unit switches to the camera mode as soon as the camera receives power (from reverse tail light circuit).

The navigation features are ok. As others have noted, it doesn't display street names when zoomed out, even though it seems it should. The voiced turn-by-turn directions are reasonable. The touch screen works well and has a very clear picture. Haven't used point of interest, MP3 or Video files features.

One other quirky item: Having a battery on-off switch and power switch. Makes powering up the unit a little confusing. Generally, it makes sense to leave the battery switch on, and use the power switch. But the battery will drain slowly in this mode, even when the unit is off.

The supplied mount is sturdy and works well.

Bottom line: There are better navigation units for same money, but if you want backup camera integration and can get by with average navigation features, this unit stands alone in the marketplace.

Comments about Sanyo Sanyo Easy Street™ NVM-4370 GPS Receiver:

Maps do not display many major streets in the "Current Map Location" mode which is supposed to show you where you are. Also, in 3D view, street names are all horizontal - even for vertical streets, so it is difficult to know which street on the picture is referred to. Takes long to acquire sattelites - up to 3 or 4 minutes. Sometimes it gets locked into navigation mode and is constantly trying to navigate to the last location you set. No way to turn it off unless you do a system reset - thereby erasing all saved contacts and setting info. Bluetooth speaker is also too soft.

Bracket is the best I have ever seen, they thought of articulation, strength and removability to hide the unit. Top on/off control should be raised higher from the case, hard to find and push. Overall, one hell of a great unit for the money. I have found a few flaws in streets if I enter them in one way, but then they are OK if I enter them in another. No explanation as to why this is! Great for travel (Car rental).

I got this GPS and had to go on a road trip the following morning, it assisted me greatly even with getting to POI. It took me on a little longer route, but I think it was my configuring that might have contributed to this. I find it fairly easy to use and have recommended it to others.

Comments about Sanyo Sanyo Easy Street™ NVM-4370 GPS Receiver:

The voice commands use "merge left onto suchandsuch highway" when the intended action involves remaining on the current highway, i.e. ignore the exit ramp. The writers mean "remain on suchandsuch highway", and not "onto". This got us in a bit of trouble around Atlanta, GA as this command came just as a left exit (not the one we needed) came up. One must get acquainted with the general use of language and distances (i.e. how far do I judge ahead for .1 mile?).

This item is ok... it was faster than the Garmin 205 and 250w. Great for those looking for an entry model or have a new driver in the home or college student. But the Garmin had better shorter directions. The TomTom 630 is a far better choice than either as it was very fast and quick routes easy to use and you can type in say RADIOSHACK and it finds the RadioShacks in your area like the garmin but not like the Sanyo. Yes you pay a little more but you do pay for what you get. Garmin is eaiser to use for those who are tech savey. Sanyo has a lot of great features might as well buy a ipod phone. But TomTom 630 was great for the price speed and being accurate for directions.

It's not as user friendly when you first get it. You must play around with the device to understand your gps. When I put just the city in to find the location it really doesn't find the proper place. I found by using the zipcode it will take you to your proper destination. Other than that, it has a lot of features, volume great on it and very portable. I love it. The pros out weighs the cons on this device. I would highly recommend it. It is very affordable as well.

After I received the GPS, I charged and used it inmediatetly. Set up bluetooth Java with the Unit and a phone, I was able to be given directions thru my earplug bluetooth, so it was safety issue due to I received a call and the GPS acted as a receptionist,so I was able to talk and received GPS directions at the same time. Well, you got to try this unit, I recommed it to anyone. I installed a backup camera with RCA plug attach with this unit. I can see the rear when I backup. The maps and everything is in the ROM, so I have tons of MP3 and MP4 video, I ws able to listen and watch during my stop in a rest area. Amazing product . I give 5 stars to this UNIT.

Comments about Sanyo Sanyo Easy Street™ NVM-4370 GPS Receiver:

This GPS got me through Manhattan on a cold and rainy night. Without it, I'm sure I would have driven into the Hudson. Likewise, it was spot-on in Washington, DC. There are three small criticisms I might offer. There were a few times, when I got off track, that it would get a few seconds behind and we would get tangled up. It just needed a few seconds to re-find itself. The unit does not interface with my 2 year old high performance PC. The other is that music loaded onto the SD chip plays at a volume that is much lower than the voice prompts from the unit. The graphics are intuitive. Even my tech suspicious wife came around to trusting it. (Which is quite interesting, since her challenged sense of direction has been a source of 20 years of marital discord.) The thing does what it is supposed to do with a minimum of fuss.

Very slow to get a signal or reroute when taken off the route for any reason. Also has a difficult time with giving the first direction of a route. It will give you clear directions on screen, but the voice often mispronounces the street name. (e.g. Route I-287 sounds like it is saying I-2K7. "Sparta" is pronounced "Sport".
For the most part, setting up the navigation is easy, and the visual choices are good. I especially like the visual on the left side for exits/divisions on interstate highways.
I have not found out how to personalize my route, using roads other than main highways, and to go by way of a particular location.

Comments about Sanyo Sanyo Easy Street™ NVM-4370 GPS Receiver:

This unit is very easy to use. The only disappointment has been the weak FM transmitter. I have tried to play the audio through the entire spectrum of FM stations in my vehicle and it has been very weak and unreliable. I have a large SUV and the radio antenna is mounted in the rear of the vehicle, so maybe that is the issue. Otherwise it works great!

This GPS worked wonders for me, it got me everywhere with no problems! Initially only a couple street addresses weren't found by the GPS, but I found a way around that. Instead of putting the full street name in, input the 1st 2-3 letters and press enter, the correct street should then be listed amongst the others.

I use the unit about once every other week for random travels. The unit is not bad but it tends to not give the most direct route. In my experience it tries to avoid all toll roads so a normal 2 hour trip could take 3 hours. Other times it works great though. I do enjoy some of the other features on it like the FM transmitter and blue tooth capabilities. This is a so so GPS but the added features make it more worth wild.

After reading all of the comments I began to really look into this unit. I found that most people must no be looking at the instructions. Most of the problems that people have, have the answer on the sticker placed on the screen. This unit will connect much faster than most if the power save feature is not on. If you switch the little switch on the bottom to off it will not charge and will take a while to connect. It warns you on the label. It doesn't take a NASA engineer to figure this thing out, most cons that people have are due to ingnorance not the unit.

Comments about Sanyo Sanyo Easy Street™ NVM-4370 GPS Receiver:

Recently bought this unit from Radio Shack, great price [...] but the unit itself I can't say the same. I used it several times for fun on short trips that I already knew where and how to get there, just wanted to see how it performed. Even after uploading the map updates supplied with the unit, it, on every use has directed me way out of my way to get to a specific place, or tells you to turn in the opposite direction that I know is not the way. When arriving at the destination its not the most accurate as you could be still within a block or so from the actual spot your looking for but it tells you, you have arrived. The volume is pretty low for me even on high, its hard to hear while driving, battery life seemed below average, needed recharged or connected to lighter outlet after a few hours of use. I connected my cell phone to it via bluetooth and it was almost impossible to hear on my end and staticy and garbled on the callers end, I had to turn off the bluetooth and recall. It has some nice features which I haven't used, hopefully they will prove themselves, we'll see. All in all for the money its not bad but definately needs to update on its map reading abilities.

Anyway, it seems that I need a little more practice with it.

We take several 2000 mile trips a year and many less than 100 miles. This Sanyo 4370 will certainly be a welcome navigation helper.I had a little trouble out of the box but it was my error in setting it up. I re-read the instructions and then programmed it correctly ad no more problems. We took a short trip from home to Laramie, Wyoming and over to a resturant in Cheyenne, Wyoming and back home to Fort Collins, Colorado. It was perfect all of the way. We tried to fool it and got off course several times and it re-routed us correctly every time. We have programmed vairous places into it and it is as accurate as can be. I can lay it down in the seat of the car and raise the antennae door and it still works great.[...].The internet special pricing was a great price, it is a shame you can't get it in the local stores at a better price. We are real happy and have suggested it to several people.

Sanyo Easy Street™ NVM-4370 is s solid GPS for the price. In general, the menu is straight forward, easy to navigate and the GPS gives good directions. The highlights are the multimedia play back functions and bluetooth connectivity. The few weak points are the slow GPS signal lock, unnatural voice pronunciation and short battery life.

Comments about Sanyo Sanyo Easy Street™ NVM-4370 GPS Receiver:

1. Its the worst if you only have a cross street. 2. It will only give you the main streets as cross streets.
3. Also it sucks with addresses. It will tell you that most addresses don't exist. Its very frustrating.
4. The speaker is clear but the volume is not loud enough
5. The street routing on it could be a lot better
6. The maps are not up to date. Out in the suburbs there are too many streets that are not on the map. These are old streets that are on other navigation system.

Thou it was on sale it was not worth the money

I would not even give it away. It just sits in my glove compartment collecting dust

One thing.. the batteries were DOA on arrival. The unit NEEDS TO BE CHARGED BY THE CAR BATTERY. Charging it by USB the first time will NOT DO. Because of this, I couldn't get the unit to behave at first.. but after charging properly, it's been great. I recommend it. Great price, lots of features. Maps are at least two years old. Wish I could find web updates more easily.. otherwise, it works fine and gets me to doorstep to doorstep.. which is why I bought it.

Comments about Sanyo Sanyo Easy Street™ NVM-4370 GPS Receiver:

People, these are only the facts...I took all negative issues and compared this unit next to Garmin 205. The sanyo won in many categories...Initial boot was 7 to 10 seconds faster, loading trip tiks were 6 seconds faster than Garmin (5 different destinations), and they gave the SAME ROUTES EVERY TIME. These neg people must not have used right because SANYO DOES have NIGHT MODE. It is clearly a option in settings. I would say the only con was the menus kinda hard to read them with the way they are set up. Other than that, the price is amazing for the amenities of this product, its faster loading than Garmin, has been as accurate as Garmin, and points of interest were incredibly active to the T! If worried about it crashing it's good to spend $13 on insurance. it will replace unit no matter what the problem is, no questions asked!!! The info you have just read are the FACTS and only the FACTS. I have nothing there that expresses opinion!! Buy this product and enjoy all the cool stuff it can do!!

Comments about Sanyo Sanyo Easy Street™ NVM-4370 GPS Receiver:

I would not recommend this GPS to anyone looking for an easy-to-use GPS.

THE BAD
The menu is not user friendly. It took navigating through several menus just to cancel a route. Do not buy this unit if you are planning on utilizing any of the additional functions (i.e. bluetooth, video player, or mp3 player). The person you are speaking to will not be able to hear you clearly when using the bluetooth. The video player just does not work. I tried several mp4 files to no avail. The mp3 player is difficult to navigate. The mount is awkward and shakes a lot. My unit intermittently lost power. So much wrong with this GPS. Sanyo service was absolutely no help. Do yourself a favor if you are still considering this GPS unit, go to the website and look for updates or any type of downloads...there aren't any.

THE GOOD
The GPS function itself..that is placing your location on a map works well. The unit looks nice. It has a video input that actually does work. Thats about it.

My wife has a Garmin and I soon will too. Don't waste your money on this Sanyo.

Couldn't afford the gas to operate it. Lots of bells and whistles, poor performance. Couldn't get the FM to work in my Altima. Moved power line all over the place but radio wouldn't pick it up. Wanted it mainly for the GPS, but in the 3 trips I used it on that should have been 10 miles or less it took me at least 5 miles out of the way on each. Fastest and shortest routs need a most economical to go with them. It either took me to the nearest highway no matter where I was going or down every little back street it could find. I returned it after 2 days.

Nice GPS. Better than my Garmin C330. This GPS is full featured so it's important to understand the controls. If a user takes the time to learn all of it's functions . . . . it's GREAT! The speaker is a bit weak but I use the FM transmitter so the sound comes through the car sound system. MANY points of interest. I am very happy with this purchase.

Comments about Sanyo Sanyo Easy Street™ NVM-4370 GPS Receiver:

I bought this unit after reading all of the reviews on this site and on [...] website. I figured, for [$] bucks, how could I go wrong? During a trip last week to Minneapolis it locked up on me and crashed. I called Sanyo and after 20 minutes of waiting spoke to a representative. He was very friendly and told me that the units with C.E.tend to lock up. I asked him if the the program could be reinstalled and he told me to promptly take it back to Radio Shack. Folks, that is why this unit is under $100 at Radio Shack and [...]. They are phasing them out because of major Operating system problems. I loved the thought of Mp3, bluetooth, traffic, 4.3" screen etc.........but if it locks up and crashed what good is it to you? After I took it back I purchased a Magellan Maestro 4370 and it performed flawlessly. It has everything the Sanyo has except for the video input for the camera. It comes with lane assist also. Spend a little more money and get the Magellan 4370 or the Garmin Nuvi 760. Better rerouting on both units and louder speakers. They also auto reroute. I wish the Sanyo Easy Street would have held up for the money. Don't get burned like me. Remember, THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP TOLD ME THAT THESE UNITS ARE KNOWN TO LOCK-UP. STAY AWAY. I also would have rated this unit highly, but it died on me. I could understand if 1 or 2 of the functions didn't work, but not a total shutdown. If you get a warning screen that says"Unable to Load windows CE" or "Navigation not installed", take it back becuase there is nothing you can do. Good luck!

Model 4370 sorta kinda works. I had to start driving in order for to aquire my location. My first location to drive to was Radio Shack which that location went out of business. TMC Traffic news is available but antenna is required which is not sold anywhere, not even online. So it has TMC but your not going to use it, ever.... I contacted Navteq for new maps, none available for Sanyo. Navteq did give me Sanyo web address and phone number to call. Sanyo does show a TMC adapter but it's not available. It also has poor street prenounciations. It does not give all addresses, POI's, tourist attractions etc..

Really wasn't interested in pictures or music use.most interested in Bluetooth and accuracy of the gps. The Bluetooth functions are about the best I've seen, unfortunately the sound could be louder though. Navigation on the other hand is poor. Planned a trip going south into Maryland, it took me 5 miles north, then 14 miles west before it started heading south. Turned 50 mile trip into 73. Updated map and algorithm could make this a real winner.
