Been using this product for 3 years now. It sounds amazing given its cheapness. Microphone and speaker quality sound excellent. However the quality does start to diminish rather rapidly. I've had to buy 2 in the last 3 years and both had the left speaker completely stop working intermittently-tapping it gets it back on. The headset also has a tear-dripping habit of getting caught in your hair when you try to take it out and it stings. (I'm a male with rather short hair)

Gets the job done though! I use it to converse with people around the world on many clients and it works fine. I also listen to techno music and it comes in crystal clear.

Sim Racing. Being usb it allows me to split the sounds. Car sounds come out of my speakers and voice from the headphones. Everyone I talk to says my voice is nice and clear. They're so light that if it wasn't for the usb cable I would forget I have them on.I would not have bought these based on price. These were a gift. Until today I assumed they were twice the money.

This product does not come with a driver update disc. So when you check the website to the company you will learn there is no update and will have many problems getting the product to function properly

After about 5 months of 1 hour per day use, the ear pads have deteriorated (they are not replaceable) and are falling off, the cable is intermittent. The comfort level drops considerably after an hours use as well. I would not by another Gigaware product as a result.

The Headset and Microphone was easy to use only IF I used it primarily as the default sound and mic. Have used this headset for over two years on both a personal Mac (v10.4.11) and a Vista laptop without any major problems. I particularly like that it is comfortable and does not require that I remove my standard head wear (a baseball cap even for work)

I have only two minor beefs. The microphone is on the weak side and I find I have to speak louder than my average speaking voice (and I am not a quiet person). And the Macintosh driver software seems as if it is a little buggy. Though I am happy it works at all on my Macs, I constantly have to fiddle with the sound settings before each session, a minor but constant nuisance.

I don't know what other people's issues are, I've owned this headset for going on three years. They've survived a couple moves and a more than a few throws in frustration. I was on this site to pick up another set because I am having issues with them now, but again, three years of almost daily use would take it's toll on almost anything.

This is the second set of headphones that I have purchased within the past 4 months. Both sets of headphones had the adjustable section on the left side flex and break. I thought it was because they got a fair bit of use, but the plastic is so thin that it is obviously a design flaw. I would recommend getting a set with a more sturdy adjustor for the earpiece.

I like these headphones. They are comfortable, the mic is out far enough that speech is clear and it does not interfere with drinking a beverage. The only problem is that they break and I cannot use a broken headset.

Seemed pretty good the first few times I used it, but this it stopped being recognized by any and all computers I plugged it into. The computer would act like nothing was plugged in. It was never moved out of my home office and was never abused, so must be serious quality issues with this item.

I love this headset though it takes over ruling out other sound equipment it has crystal clear sound which is great for TeamSpeak, Steam, and other gaming voice applications as well as Skype, Yahoo & MSN Messenger, and more. The only problem I have had with it is that its very painful on my ears otherwise its a great headset.

The sole reason for me purchasing this headset was for Web conferencing since the microphone to my last headset broke after only a year of use. When I received this item, I plugged it in and tested the headset by playing my itunes library. It sounded great. I also tested the microphone by formatting it to my computer and recording my voice for playback. Everything worked perfectly. However, when my next conference came up, no one could hear my voice since my microphone was not transmitting through the software the conference was held on. This was never an issue with my previous and cheaper headset. Also, I noticed immediately afterwards that whenever I played my itunes, the sound no longer fed through my headset speakers even though my headset WAS connected to the USB port. Instead, the sound only came through my PC speakers. That was strange. What was even wierder was that whenever I played a Web based audio file, such as a Youtube clip, the sound would go through my headset speakers. I couldnt figure out why the headset responded differently whether I was on or offline. A week or so later I had another Web conference, and that time around the microphone did transmit my voice. Also, all sounds went through my headset after that, whether or not I was online, as long as the headset was plugged in. I dont understand why it took so long for my headset to function properly. The only advice I can give is to NOT install the Skype software that comes in the package if you are not going to use the service. I absentmindedly did because I thought it was software needed to run the headset. (dumb) I still have it installed because I am afraid that removing it will interfer with my headset's capability. It work's fine now, but I still wonder...

If you take care of it and don't abuse it you will find this a good deal. It isn't the greatest quality but it will fit your needs if you aren't a hardcore gamer or need it for something like that.

I haven't had good luck with headsets in the past, but this one's been good so far. I've had it for a few months now. The sound is superb, it works consistently and I have a two year warranty for it. I'd definitely recommend it as a good, inexpensive, headset.

I purchased this headset 3 years ago, and have had no real problems. This headset survived multiple "I sat on it" experiences, chairs rolling over it, and a cat chewing on the cords. The durability isn't SPECTACULAR (the audio IS finally starting to flicker out), but hey... it's been 3 years.

I have been using the 33-1187 for podcasting for over a year now. It is quite high quality (nice dynamic microphone range, earpieces sound good). I needed something with noise canceling, though. So I decided to try these. I couldn't return them to the store fast enough! Compared to the 33-1187, audio recorded though the microphone has all the quality of a telephone from the 50s. While the 33-1187 doesn't sound like the audio you would get from a [$] microphone, it eclipses the garbage recorded from this headset! If you are planning on using this headset for only VoiP, it may suffice, but if you are planning on recording anything, move on!

I don't usually submit reviews about products, but I feel it is necessary in this case. Most people say that this headset is bad, and they are just wrong. It does indeed work with Vista, but you may need to fiddle with it for a bit. I haven't had any issues, though I have only had it for a little while. Bottom line, thus far, the headset is quality.

I've had this headset for 2+ years and is only now just starting to wear out at the point where the wire goes into the inline volume control. Having a wire come off each ear is a bit annoying but this headset has better quality and has lasted exponentially longer than any other more expensive headset I've found. I use it for a few hours daily and have for the entire time I've owned it and to this day the sound is clear incoming and outgoing. I love it and will be buying another when my current one finally fails.

*The Headphones are a bit small but they are cheaper so they will be smaller, also my huge ears don't help anything

I have been using this for playing networked games across the country with friends. I plugged it in, OS X (10.4.11) recognized it right away and let me use it. Set up Skype for communications and have enjoyed playing games. The sound quality is nothing special, i.e., it's not bad, it's not really good. The cables running to both earpieces are annoying, it would be much better if there was one cable that ran over/through the headset to the other earpiece. And yes, a friend got this on my recommendation and I think a couple of others will also.

Not a bad basic headset but far to much in the wire department. Unlike the logitechs, this set has wires dropping from both ears instead of just one creating a bit of a tangle hazard and an unnecessary annoyance. Mic isn't great for speech recognition software but adequate.

WOW player BIG time. Have had many diffrent types and brands rangeing for $15 to $1oo each and none have been as good or lasted as long this brand has. So I bought 2 others and great results for nearly 2 yrs. I have had the best results and complements from both people who hear me and have used it from my computer and the other 2 computers that we have set up in my family computer room. On my way to get a 4th one. Only compalint I have is that you or your DOG can not pull too hard on the cord cause now I get ocassional crackel sound when wires inside mute switch touch so its time for a replacement, and thanks to the extended warrenty my cost could be or will be zero.

I've had 2 of these already, trying to change brand names now, since this headset was terrible. My first one's speaker broke on the left and was not able to be fixed. My second one came as a defected one, the part that mutes the headset pulls a little and completely disconnects my headset from my computer, and it's very sensative to breaking.

I use this to listen to pandora and play tf2/dods, often at the same time.

They work perfectly for drowning out the noise my 12, 12 and 7 year old children make with wii rockband and its famous drum set. I do have to turn them up all the way. This makes hearing the voice chat in tf2/dods a bit difficult but the mic works still and I only rarely am asked about the rat-a-tat-tat tapping sounds. Overall a nice headset at a reasonable price. I do wish they would be a bit louder though and perhaps an attachment for them could be made to provide wife blinders. Those looks can get as intense as some really hard core music! A man can get shot in the face distracted that way.

I tried using these, after connection and configuration, they worked for about 2min then quit working all together. Reinstalled them and the did the same thing. Don't fit great, sound qualilty varies alot depending on what you are doing, and is not very clear.

I have one of the Gigaware Webcams, which works great, so I figured their headset was a safe bet. WRONG. Definitely NOT for Business Use; the microphone on the one I bought was so sensitive that it picked up people talking outside, 3 floors down.

I have been playing World of Warcraft for more than 3 years now and been using this for the game's integrated voice chat for as long as it's been active. Everyone claims I sound better through the game's voicechat than their friends on vent and teamspeak. Great quality and easy to use if you know the basics of getting it to work, basically run the calibration option once the drivers auto-install.

I have Vista, and I have the opposite problem with this headset, I lose all sound and can not turn it back up, it goes all the way down and I cant turn it back up, mic works fine, or so I am told. How do I change settings for Vista so this product works? overall, I wouldnt buy this, Its also uncomfortable for me, but I play games on this for hours on end and anything gets uncomfortable after a while.

It's "very" easy to use this microphone. It's comfortable, and the sounding is awesome. You can mute and unmute, when some microphones you can't. I haven't found something wrong with mine. Just keep it in a place where animals can't get it.

This is the best headset I have used to date for Skyping from my Mac. Easy USB plugin, mute button, volume. Mic clarity excellent. For music listening it's OK, but not great. Best feature: On a mac, if you plug it in during a call, it automatically switches to headset (no manual messing around) - and reverts to computer speakers when unplugged. Perfect for skyping when a guest enters the room and needs to hear the conversation.

I bought it in June of 2006, and haven't had a whole lot of problems with it until recently.For a few months now the cord going from the computer to the volume control is loose, and I often only get sound out of one speaker. I use this headset to talk to friends on Vent, Skype, and an MMORPG using an XP system, and it's been working great for over a year and a half now.

No problems with the mic or the earphones so far. The sound quality is very good, better then a set of straight up headphones I got for a similar price. Only (rare) issue is if I've already got Skype open and plug them in, I occasionally have toggle Skype's settings to get the audio to go though the headphones.

As is usual with a mic, you'll need to sneak into your settings and do some configuring when you first start using it. After that, though, it should work like a charm. GREAT for the price.

I wouldn't recommend doing this, but this headset has even survived a few trips in my way-too-overstuffed backpack. It might seem flimsy, but if you're responsible, it'll survive.

The mic does not work with my XP system. A little research on the web shows that this is a very common problem. There is no driver provided by RS or Gigaware. Do not buy this product. It is not supported.

Sometimes WinXP does not recognize them when they are plugged in to switch to the headset for use with Skype. Usually, need to go into Control Panel and change settings. Then, need to reverse to go back to system speakers for use of desktop speakers.

Otherwise, they work fairly well.

I use it primarely for calling people on the computer using Skype. Microphone works fine but headphones do not work at all. Even adjusting settings in control panel does not help. Headphones work for listening to music but again you have to select this headset from a list in control panel.
I want to change it to something simpler in use.

for those who complain about problems with vista , i have had no problems using this device with vista simply because vista searches for drivers using the internet for automaticly, people with dial up currently not connected while connecting this device to the usb port will have problems .. keep in mind that this device is in fact not a top notch quality so you get what you pay for ..

I use it with Skype on my mac to make international calls every now & then, and it runs smoothly. The sound is crystal clear on both ends. Can't beat the price.

I tried using this for voice dictation. It picks up my voice well, and does a good job filtering noise. However, it would periodically quit on me mid sentence, and I couldn't get it working again, unless I unplugged it, and plugged it in again.

The solid microphone boom is another drawback. It is not flexible enough to be properly positioned for my use.

Overall, I'd say that with some refining, this could turn out to be a great product.

The volume buttons control the Mac system volume. When plugged in, the Mac automatically switches input and output over to this headset. It works great with Skype video.

I am a WORK-AT-HOME user, have been using this headset for over 6 months. Had minor issues with it, but 9 out of 10 times was the application I use on a daily basis. This headset works better than a $90 USB headset that the company used to purchase and replace ever 2-3 months for its employees.

I use this with the Vista Voice Recognition software to dictate for my grad work. It works great and I like it quite a bit. I have a MS LifeChat and the GigaWare is much smaller and more comfortable on the ears.

I had no problems at all, the unit worked first time with no setup at all. Skype used it with minimal configuration and if I had to come up with a problem I would say that the microphone is a bit too sensitive.

mac pro requires powered mic if using line in. As this mic uses USB, it gets around that requirement. I've tested under Mac OS 10.4, 10.5, and Win XP.

I bought this in order to chat with my buddy while we play online games together. From the start, this headset has just been plain cruddy. The microphone doesnt even work?!! In addition, the volume buttons dont work either. My office uses VoIP phones, so when I get the opportunity to telecommute now and again, I use this headset on my laptop, and my laptop, with the right software, becomes my work desktop phone.

This headset is a no-brainer to use. Plug it in, configure the audio settings in the Windows Control Panel, and it's absolutely flawless. I've used it for six months without a hiccup or glitch, and most people don't even know I'm not at my desk at work.

I'm strongly assuming that people who are having problems with it muting randomly or cutting out didn't bother to configure their audio settings in Windows and are blaming the headset. The quality is actually good (for the price), and the headset is surprisingly comfortable, even for many hours straight, or at weird times for those late-night conference bridges with Asia, when I'd rather be sleeping.

All in all, good value item, and not a purchase to be regretted.

It worked ok on Windows XP, but when I started using Windows Vista I quickly noticed that the sound was severely distorted when using the mouse. Much Google searching has found many other people with the same problem with this headset on Vista. Great headset, never had a problem, heading out to buy 2 more. People need to follow instructions how to fix, very easy, it's a windows problem, not the headset.

Go into Control Panel, Sound and Audio, Volume, Options, check advanced. Click Advanced button and uncheck AGC.

Everyone who didn't do the fix and returned the headsets are missing out on a great product.

I always use cheap headphones under $10, they usually last like 2-3 months. These have lasted an unheard of 8 months of stress and abuse and are just starting to go (need to stretch the wire to get sound in left ear). These have served me better then any cheap headphones.

Works fine when playing Warcraft and using a vent server. Had to adjust input and output settings down compared to speakers and microphone plugged into a soundcard. The cord is pretty long which may be an advantage to someone who wants to wonder far from their computer.

Okay, Ive figured out how to fix the muting issue, at least for me. I was having problems with it while using Skype, so I followed their help. Go to http://support.skype.com/?_a=troubleshooter and follow it. Hit "no" for the first two pages, then follow the instructions on the next. It worked for me...and its worth a try!

This is the best headset i have purchase. I have use many headsets and this one works the best. Havent found anything wrong with this headseat. Sound is great, mic picks up great. If your using a mulitmedia keyboard even works better, not only do you have control on volume for speakers n mic but u can add and decrease both with the keyboard. usb headset isnt 100% vista compatable. it will work but it's a little tricky. since it's usb, the computer may not recognise it and you may need to go into sound settings to set it up, but it has great quality, so once it is working, it works fine

Same problem as everyone else - mutes randomly, and can only be switched back on by unplugging it, just to mute again in another 30 seconds. the sound is great - if you don't want to talk to anyone. and the muting problem has gotten progressively worse over the past three months, which is another factor i don't understand (originally was every 20 minutes, now it's within 20 seconds of use). don't buy it.

Works perfectly on every unit I've tried it on. I use it while playing World of Warcraft over Ventrilo and TeamSpeak and it hasn't had any problems. On PC's, follow the instrustions and update all your drivers and it will work. On Apple computers, it works even better. I recommend this to every one of my customers looking to do VOIP.

I bought 3 of these. they work great both on my PC and my Macook Pro. Better than the $55 Logitech one that has broken twice. I use it for podcasting and the sound quality is excellent, especially for the price. I have never had a problem with it on either platform. I recently purchased this product at my local RS. I used it fine for about 2 days, and then the mute light suddenly came on wouldn't go off. Like the instructions say, go to advanced and turn off AEP, i tried, except for the fact that it wouldn't even allow for the advanced options. I seriously think that RS needs to find out what is wrong, and issue a drivers update or something. Things i tried to fix it: -reinstalled drivers for USB and Speech systems -Used other USB ports -reinstalled skype because of mentions about it working in regards to that -tried hardboot with it in the USB -tried hardboot with it out of USB and i probably missed somethings too. i see that there have been both good and bad reviews, and would like to say that some of these might be good headsets, i have a friend with one that is working great. but i'm giving it about a 50/50 on if you will get a good one at the store.

I purchased this headset even though it didn't have great reviews. I was hoping it would work OK and allow me to Skype a little easier. As it turns out, this headset exceeds my expectations handily. I'm so glad I purchased it. I've had none of the USB problems the others have had and it is fully compatible with Macintosh computers. The sound quality is far superior to what I expected. The sound quality is a upgrade from a normal headphone but was not loud enough for but overall it is a great product for it's price comes with skype sofeware.

I was really pleased with the sound quality of this product...but the mute button going off randomly every time I call a friend makes it worthless to me. I'm going to see if there's a way to get a refund. I wouldn't recommend this product because it's not reliable at all. Very disappointed.

Wow, I am SOOO glad to know that I'm not the only one with the mute problem. I'm hoping to be able to find some sort or driver or patch that I can install that will fix that. I think the sound quality is great when I'm listening to Winamp but the whole mute at random thing, not so much

I agree with one of the other reviewers. The sound quality on this headset far exceeds any other I've tried. However, whether on Skype or Yahoo IM, the mute decides to activate at random. Sometimes you can talk for 15 minutes - others for 20 seconds, but you have to unplug the headset (hard boot) and reconnect with the service provider. This is my third headset and they have all done the samt thing.

Sound is clear, but as another reviewer said, the mute button has a tendency to go on by itself. Used it with Skype, and whenever the mute button turned on, I couldn't unmute it unless I exited Skype first. Happens fairly frequently and is an annoyance. Otherwise, the headphones work okay. Sound quality is decent, and the design is comfortable.

I used this headset with MS Office speech recognition and it worked very well. Especially after I took the time to train the software as indicated in the manual. I do however think that the noise cancelling properties are not as good as I expected. Overall very good value for the sale price.

There doesn't seem to be a mute design flaw as mentioned previously. You just have to turn off AGC like it says in the manual. However, the product is not worth the price. It's not bad, but could be better for how much they charge you. I would not recommend a USB stereo headset, avoid one if you can. It's simply plug and play and pretty easy to use. I've tried other microphones, and they all distort my voice and this one is no better. However, the distortion isn't as bad on this one as it is on other microphones. The sound quality from the speaker and the microphone isn't so good. The noise cancelling doesn't work so well which makes it horrible for voice recognition programs. I've used the headset on Windows XP Speech Engine and it did a horrible job of dictating. Well over 50% of the words I said came out wrong. Frankly, it could have been improved. If you only use a headset from time to time and really don't care that much for quality then this headset is probably for you. If you want to use a headset for gaming, voice dictation or videochatting, I recommend you to look elsewhere. It's probably better to invest on a more expensive headphone and get your money's worth.

Not sure what all the bad reviews are about. I bought one on sale for use with my company's voip phone system and it works great. If the volume is adjusted properly, it works just fine. Very good economical solution for something I will only use occasionally while working from home.

Please stop saying that you shouldn't downvote a product because the problem with it could be fixed with changing settings on your computer. Most people aren't that great with computers, and would have no clue how to mess with these settings. You should be able to get a product out of the box that either works, or has instructions on how to make it work. You shouldn't need to go get outside help. I personally knew how to turn off this setting. When I turned it off it greatly reduces my inbound volume. I had to crank all of my volume settings way up, and people could still barely hear me. Not only that, but it still muted even after I had turned off the setting. I plan on taking mine back tomorrow.

There is no "mute" design flaw! Turn off AGC (Auto Gain Control) in settings to resolve mute issue. This is stated clearly in the instructions, as Bill P. mentions in his review below.

Same mute problem as with others, however, I find that mine mutes when I speak too loudly, cough, laugh, etc. I'm not sure what the problem is here but it seems that RS should be able to fix this if a hardware problem.

Not that great voice is muffled, when used on skype for more than 2 minutes microphone mutes and then the mute button doesnt work. Dont buy this if you plan on using skype

You guys are giving this thing a bum rap. I got it on black Friday and it works great!! Hour-long phone calls without a problem. The catch is that you have to turn off the AGC in the advanced audio settings of Windows. AGC- means Automatic Gain Control. This is what mutes the mic. ENJOY!!

Works great for about 5 min. Than the mute comes on and can not be turned off. You can hear but they can't hear you. DONT GET ONE UNLESS YOU TALK FOR LESS THAN 5 MIN ON ANY CALL!

Mute button kept randomly going on, could not get it to turn off. Had to disconnect and reconnect call. Returned headset for a new one, had the same problem. I would not buy this product. Will take it back for a refund and buy a different brand.

DON'T BUY IT! The mute button turns itself on, at will. I unpackaged it, and started a call with a $5'000 a month customer. Mute decided that it was the right time to turn itself on. I lost the call and I almost lose my customer. Bad decision to buy this mess.

Bought 5 for my staff. We tested 3 and, in each case, mute button turned itself on in a random fashion. Party on the other end of the call could not hear us. Could not correct without pulling USB plug which disconnected call. Had to return units.
