I see allot of people taking about how horrible this thing is, but c'mon, I was not expecting a megapixel quality HD video from this thing. If you are using these cheap cameras for anything other than monitoring or basic video chats then you are expecting too much from this basic VGA web cam. If you want quality look at some of the 2MP HD cameras out there that cost about $100.00 (this is 1/10 that price and you get 1/10 that quality in my opinion!).

I found this to be a great buy for what I am using it for. Dark backgrounds are not recommended, but unless you are looking for movie quality picture, you will not be dissapointed in this camera. I bought a second one for my wife's computer

I just bought and installed this camera to support video conferences using Skype. I am very comfortable setting up and maintaining my computer. I am running windows Vista on a machine with 4G of ram. Installation was simple until it came to the software, which was poorly described, you have to 'trust' that you need what they have because there is no description of any of the software options except Adobe. The Arcsoft software added no value, if anything it was a negative. The FaceTracking was worthless if it was even functioning. I was unable to control it using the icon in the tray as instructed. Video is extremely choppy regardless of resolution. Very disappointed, instead of waiting to see if it completely fails as identified in so many of these posts, I will be returning it and getting a Logitec.

Worked perfectly when first installed and focused lens. Would not work later. Tried to uninstall but error message said a file was missing. Tried to re-install but it insisted on trying to first uninstall with same error message. All the operating files are hidden in one large installation .exe file and cannot access them. Toast.

This is a good camera for the money. It does the basic thing you need.

It's 2.0 megapixel and it's focus is good and picture quality is very good. Just have proper lighting, this is true for all camera. You really can't blame it for poor appearance if you don't have light.

I got it as a christmas gift last year. It was easy to set up, and worked ok for a while. The video was chopy and it did not focus well, but it worked. after about 6 months, it just got blurry, still works, but you can only see a big blur.

I'm not impressed. This webcam has an unnecessary default zoom that is annoying -- when sitting at your computer, your face takes up the whole screen. Poor quality and can't adjust to lighting well. I know this is cheap, but I think it's worth less.

Unit workedwith my e-Machines computer runing XP, but does not work at all with my Dell 7550 running Vista. The Vista divers are obviosly not perfected. I will admit that it wokedce with Vista, but as soon as I ran Skype it failed and reloading drivers doesn't seem to help.It's a disosable[$] camera. If the Logitec was compatible with my emachines I would have used it instead. Unfortunately, I was forced to use the Gigaware as it was the only one that would work.I will not buy one of these again.

It is a lot for [$]. The driver was a pain to install, but finally did find. Add menu kept trying to compete with the driver software. I have no issues with the picture, clarity, color, or anything other than the streaming flow. Processes minimized, cleaned and fragged, this thing is only trying to impress me at 540 and 5-10% processor. Maybe I should reinstall the drivers; it might make things better. Those of you who think this is perfect must have computers that run idle at startup. It is a great camera, but your computer better be much better than slow if you want streaming content.

I use this product to chat with my girlfriend on aim, I bought it at a radioshack in peoples plaza for [$] with a 2.00 year extended warranty just incase. The day I bought it and installed the software, it worked great. I knew I had purchased the cheapest model, so I didn't expect much. Unfortunately, problems soon followed. The software is installed on my PC, but after working well for a few minutes, it freezes, and then crashes. From then on, my computer will not even recognize the camera is plugged in. i got this camrea one night while at the mall with my friends, and one of my friends got it too and lended me a couple bucks for it. when i got home, my disk WOULDN'T INSTALL & his did. the mic worked without being installed but the camrea didn't and it wouldn't let me install it. my computer said it was to "dangerous" too install, if it let me it could have ruined my computer. then one day on facebook my friend made a video and she had bought the same webcam and her disk wouldn't install either. my one friends who did work had bad quality while i was watching it. i don't recommend this webcam at all. i returned mine and i'm planning on getting a better webcam not in the Gigaware brand.

I mostly use this on Skype or websites that let you use your webcam to talk to my friends or boyfriend who are out of state. It's been reliable, as I've had it for quite a while, but it's really laggy. Sometimes I do something and it doesn't show up for 10 seconds.

The picture quality isn't that great and the pictures it take are also mediocre.

Many of these people think that this Camera is poorly built, or is to slow. All I have to say is that if you don't know how to use a webcam, or your PC is slow to begin with then maybe you shouldn't be talking down on a get Camera fo 20 something. I mean come on, this camera works great and could be valued higher and compares with camera's in the $60 range. Bottom line is that this camer is worth more then the price for sure. Even a caveman can get this thing working. I have convinced many completely none Computer literate users install and use in full abilities, without needing help. The 'product' is capable of working with just my computer, however, when attempting to use it with msn (as it said it could be used) it would not work. I could open up My Computer, click on the camera and get an iffy image (worse than the one on my laptop's built in cam) but it would not work with MSN at all.

I bought this.. thing basically just for the microphone. It worked for a while before I reformatted.

I believe I used a CD to install it, but I probably threw it away since I found that I can download the installer off the net. Bad idea, because the listed drivers for this camera DO NOT WORK. I'm really surprised that so many people give this webcam such bad ratings. It is a $20 webcam people, not a $100 one. I bought mine about a year ago and it works fine. The image quality is actually better than a Logitech that I bought for about the same price. If you use the low light boost, the frames per second WILL be lower. If you have really good lighting and keep the low light setting off, the fps will be very good. If you want a good, cheap webcam to chat on SightSpeed or Skype, this is the one. It takes very good still photos too, for a basic webcam.

I've spent about a year complaining about the bluriness of this webcam..almost got fed up with it and bought another one. Thankfully now I don't have to.
I finally got it to work pretty darn well...
1 ) i downloaded the VISTA version of the software.
2) I found that there's a manual ZOOM IN and ZOOM OUT for this thing. (just twist the eye of the cam in and out)
obviously not ideal but it does the job and for the price I won't complain anymore.The image is pretty sharp, even in dark light, and the installation is very easy. No fancy extras or anything(which i don't really need)

This was the first web camera I had ever bought.
It seemed good enough from all the tings that were written about it at the store. I got home, and setup was pretty easy. But, taking pictures with it was something I couldn't find how to do. I could take videos, but that's not something I really needed. It wouldn't work with stickam, until after I uninstalled the program and just used the USB Overall, it's just plain bad. I guess that's what I get for spending less than $20 on a camera.

i use this cam on my dell inspiron 1525 running skype all the time, manual focus, a small pain, but i can always get a clear image in under 30 seconds. the built in mic is useless to me, ive gt one built into the laptop, so ive never tried tie cam mic. i constantly lose the little thing, its not always connected to my laptop.

I actually havent had the issues many of the reviewers here have had. I popped in the disc into my XP system and it installed on first attempted, no driver issues. However, the packaging the camera comes in does I beleive state, if I may paraphrase, that the camera, has the ability to take snapshots, and the only way I've found this possible is by using a third party software such as the Windows scanner and Camera Wizard, amd there is no other software aside fromthe video aquiring program provided with the camera. I'm one of the many that Vista operating system wont recognize the camera. The mic works and is cheaper than a mic by itself, so I won't return it. This is the first device that I've had trouble with. I would guess I spent approx. 4 hours troubleshooting without a good outcome.

When reading the reviews for this I was scared, but I saw it at a good price, I was able to get the warranty so in case it didnt work I could return it, I installed it on my computer it worked just fine.. I don't see the complications that people haev been having with this.. I Have windows Xp.. the only thing you have to have good lighting.. but for the price I got it for I cant complain, I think the issue with some people is that expect too much from something inexpensive. you get what you pay for.. I read some of the reviews here of folks that couldn't seem to get it going, what? I say for the sale price ([$]) you can't go wrong. It has all the features hardware-wise of the lowest priced webcams out there. It's all in the tweeking if it works for you. I even bought five more and setup for others and it works great. The leftovers I'm going to use for home security, free software all over the web, this is going to get interesting.

I purchased this for personal use on my notebook running vista. It installed fine with the CD. After a year (give or take)I decided to use it at work. I tried to download the drivers from this site. FYI - Use the Vista drivers even if you are running XP. The XP package is missing a file. I found that out after 3 hours of trying.

I read into the positive reviews and chose to buy two on sale for the price of one. AM I GLAD THAT I DID!!! Loaded up real easy to my system (XP) with no hassle. Followed directions in "fold-up" instructions included. Am impresed with the "extras". Video record abilities and such.

The desigen of the feet doesn't allow attaching to any computer or copmputer screen. I have have three computers and although the camera works alright it cannot be set up on any of my screens. I tried to hook it to my notebook with a rubberband and it wouldn't work. The only thing that I can do is put the camera on the table next to the computer.

I bought this camera for video chatting for my laptop. The problem is that hung on my laptop the image is zoomed in too far, so that only half my face is visible. If I move, or laugh, or gesture, I go out of frame. If I hang the cam off the back of the desk, I can see my mouth, too, but nothing else. This is a laptop; I take it other places where I don't take the desk.

My old cam (not compatible with Vista) with my face centered, would show my shoulders and a nice space above my head.

I don't see any information about the mic (the documentation, even the online stuff) is woefully inadequate. And the video software that came with it doesn't detect the camera, even though it's working with Yahoo! IM.

This is going back.

I got this camera to use while my husband was deployed so he can see our kids on christmas. Our christmas will now be ruined. This camera is a piece of junk. I will NOT buy anything from [...] ever again. I do not see how they can sell and recommend something of this poor quality! The first time using it, it showed the picture but the mic didnt work so after reinstalling it, NOTHING would work. There is no "help" section and no manual other than a piece of paper telling you to put the CD in the drive and follow the directions on the screen. I would NOT recommend this to ANYONE unless you want junk laying around!

The camera just didn't work with Vista. The PC and OS does recognize the camera but there's no driver to be found on Windows Update. I downloaded and installed the Vista driver found on this website and it completed the installation but did nothing. Rebooting doesn't help and there are no driver files to install manually, either. Sad. I expected more from RadioShack. It's best to stick to brand names (logitech, etc).

Please note, I didn't test this with XP or Linux (I really doubt it'll work for Linux).

I bought this Camera, and it worked the first few days. The third time i tried to use it windows doesn't recognize it. Also, the image quality was fairly poor and sluggish if you tried to use both audio and video. Don't buy, it's junk!

Okay I got this for the black Friday price of [$] plus a 1 year warranty in total costing me [$]. it's great for the price of [$] but the focus is hard to get right and any motion that is a little faster then a quick hand wave is blurry and barely picks up on...my suggestion pick up something with all around better quality and works in alot better in low light unless your just trying to pick something up for say a web cam business meeting or if you just simply want to say hi to some one far away for cheap

I think lot of the other reviewers are the type of people that need to find a family member to do stuff for them. I got two of these on sale from Radioshack for [$] each - One is on an older XP computer on the other is on my main Vista X64 machine - pop in the CD, select install driver from the autorun and its there for all my video apps to use - Skype, MSN, Yawcam etc. No problems, excellent picture quality and has extra features like face tracking.

This thing is a piece of junk. It is easy to get the IR filter out using a pair of diagonal cutters (the filter is in the screw in piece) but the drivers don't work so it's worthless nonetheless.

It says it's compatible with XP but the web is littered with stories of people with the same problem like mine. I can't get the DRIVER to install and of course, the computer only recognises the camera as an "unknown USB device". A waste of plastic.

I got this as a very inexpensive add-on for my old Gateway laptop, and it works just fine with Skype, et al.

I only wish I had the technical specs and the time so I could possibly hack together a driver for my Macintosh computer, because the manufacturer has not seen fit to provide one. It's not like this hardware is platform-specific or anything ... I can "see" it on the Mac's USB hub just fine, but can't address it from any applications of course.

To install on Vista, Use the CD that comes with the Camera (Mine is version 1.0.0.18). When Vista asks if you want to run Menu.exe, do not. View the contents of the CD and then right click on Menu.exe and "Run as Administrator". Then install the Driver from the nice menu. The camera will then run with your own software that uses a camera. The CD also includes a lite version of a video editing software and the Radio Shack web page has a Vista video capture program for this camera. Have Fun with Vista!

I have two comments/reviews. The first review was with my cellular telephone. This is the real picture with the gigacamera! Don't forget to adjust the focus with the knob in the front by turning it clockwise/counter-clockwise!!! I love this little thing. It's small and easy to fit in my carrying case. It picks up great in low light. The picture isn't crystal, but it's not blurry, and the manual focus is easy to manage.
I have to raise my voice a little bit to pick it up, but that's alright.
All in all, for the sale price, it's great. I wouldn't pay the normal twenty, but ten is right up my ally.

Dang, this Webcam is real good. The thing is the driver had no installation in it so I had to get it from the Rasioshack Website. It does not work with my Vista PC. Works with my XP Laptop though. Ignore incompetent people who couldn't get it to work. Drivers are available from the Radioshack web-page, and the camera works fine with Vista as well as the latest (at the time, 2/8/08) versions of MSN and Yahoo messengers. Out of box, downloaded, installed, and set-up in 15-20 minutes. Very cheep camera, in cost and quality, but is still a web cam. Only thing I didn't like, a slow frame rate/refresh rate causes any motion to blur.

I bought this camera for personal use at home to talk to family around the country. When I install it on my work laptop it works well. However, the drivers are not recognized in Vista... so it's pretty annoying. No driver support on radioshack's website nor the "Gigaware" website either.

People have to be careful to follow installation instructions carefully! I mention this because I went to install the drivers for this webcam in my new Dell Inspiron 530S desktop and it corrupted my DVD driver! Dell Support fixed the problem.The driver installation CD is compatible for MS Windows 98SE/2000/Me/XP only. Hopefully drivers are available for MS Windows Vista.

I was surprised to read all these reviews with problems of installation. I use Win XP on my laptop and drivers and software instaled like a charm. Picture is quite adequate to the price, or, I would say, very good for the price. Sound is bad, yes, but I use USB Skype-certified headset with noise reduction mic, which overrides cam mic. When I speak from US or Canada with my wife in Hong Kong, it sounds like she is right next to me. And we can see each other... You can't use this cam for quality family video archive, but for WEB communication is it perfect.

I use this camera with yahoo and live messengers to communicate with family all over the world. My wife and I both have them for our laptops and I am going to send one to my brother in Germany. The picture quality looks just as good as the $150 logitech that my dad has.

Just lode the driver and plug it in. I am running XP sp2 and XP Pro Media Center sp2.

If this Webcam had a generic driver, or perhaps several drivers, it may be widely user friendly. As it is, the driver installs with windows installer.

That isn't always the case, it is just a driver, and apparently it isn't compatible with SP1. It is a webcam. a capture device with a single use, how hard can this be.

Had problems installing the software. The warning message tells me that the provider is not certified by WindowsXP and thus recommends me to cancel the installation process. Even though it wasn't all that easy to get started with this webcam, once I got everything up and running, it was nice and easy to use. Very bad in low-light conditions, and most of the time it was like watching an old voice-over kung-fu flick... you'd see the other person's lips moving way before you heard the voice!
I got this webcam from my friend for Christmas, and it worked fine with my WinXP. I got a new laptop in February with WinVista and I have not been able to get it to work with that AT ALL. Very disappointed because I primarily used this to video conference with my business partner.

The camera was not easy to install. I got it to work on my laptop after going on the internet to find drivers for the video camera. I still cannot find the driver for the video for my desktop. The quality is ok. the pictures are ok. The sound could be better. Usable camera once it is installed.

This is a great web cam! From reading other reviews, I was somewhat doubtful that this would work well with my computer, especially since it was such a low price [...] The setup was really easy, just install the program and plug in the camera into the USB. The cd at first gave me a little scare because there was no response from my computer when putting it into the cd rom drive, but then I put it in the dvd drive and it installed with no problem. It was very easy to use, and the quality is really good. The built-in mic delivers sound clearly (or so my friends say) and the picture is good. I use this web-cam with Skype, and it works fine and doesn't take forever to load. I have a wondows xp computer and its compatible, so yeah. If you're looking for a good quality, not the best but still really good, affordable camera, definitely definitely pick up this one!

I really do not get what the issues are with this camera. It worked right out of the package for me in Vista with no problems. Once you set the built-in microphone as the default microphone, it works like a charm. If anything the mic is too sensitive and will pick up lot of ambient noise if there is any present. The video is as good or even better than some other even more expensive cams I have used. The installation instructions are pretty basic and common for most USB accesories, so I do not understand what the disatisfaction is with this product.

I purchased this to chat with family in Ireland. I didn't have problems locating the Vista drivers, which you can find off of the Radio Shack site. But, the audio quality was pretty horrible. There was a loud humming anytime I captured video and you could barely hear when people spoke. I decided to return since the audio is one of the most important functions I was looking into. Video quality wasn't that bad, but you can't access any of the help options when using Vista--or at least I couldn't.

Obviously not compatible with any Windows applications! The USB the camera was plugged into while installing is now broken and will not read anything I plug in now. I'm pretty sure that this was an already returned product when I bought it and the staff sold it to me with out a word of caution. I find it hard to believe that no one has said anything to them. Don't buy this camera unless you want severe computer complications or a waste of an hour trying to get it to work.

The driver and program must be installed before using the camera. It works on my laptop, but I constantly have to adjust the focus (it's manual). Overall, it's an 'okay' web cam. Horrible product.... Many people have problems installing it with no findable solution. But also if you mess with it enough it will corrupt your cd-rom drivers. I have had several of these over the years and this on is by far the best. It has great control of the camera settings which allow a good picture in low or backlight situations. I used it at Christmas so the Grandparents could watch the kids open their presents. They loved it. It has a built-in-mic that works fine. XP IS NOT A PROBLEM! I'm not sure that the other reviewers understand the need to install the software before the camera. This is common with all PC Cams.

BAD product. Doesn't install correctly. I can't find the hardware drivers so the device isn't working. I'll have to take it back. Lousy product

I'm sure it would be a nice web cam if one could install it... The CD shipped with the camera does not work, and there is no support on the net. Great value :(

I got this for my girlfriend for christmas she thinks it is very good we can now talk to each other over the net when we miss each other.
