When i first pluged this baby in i thought yes now i can move all my itunes to a new source and not have this slowed down hard disk
but no i messed up and had to reupload lots of media.
But that was my fualt not to that of this product.

The main reason for my purchase was for backups, when I saw this one I decide the additional storage wouldn't be a bad idea for photos and videos. Sitting in the stand it doesn't take up much room and looks like a well made product as it has proven already. I orginally was going to use my Windows transfer cable on the backups, but it has a type A USB plug and Acomdata has a type B port been looking for a adapter.

I use this and other External Hard Drives to store all the videos I take. And I must say even my Western Digital MyBook isn't as quiet. I could do without the constant light bar being on, but I do like that it tells you when something is being taken off, added, or used from the drive. And it does seem much more portable than the MyBook, maybe a little heavier, but much less bulky. Two thumbs way up.

Using this to extend drive storage on a compact PC. This external drive holds all my data files while PC internal drive is purely for programs. This AcomData is a good deal. Reasonably cool after running 24 hrs (usually runs about 10 hrs a day). Considering a second to backup (mirror/synch) the first. Only had it a month, so only 4 stars, though nothing wrong

I've never owned an external hard drive and i decided it was high time. This was the best choice! I happened to get it on sale. After stalling even taking it out of the box (I was nervous) after some coaxing from a friend I pretty much just plugged everything in, hit the power switch and away I went. Dragging and dropping it was so fantastically easy and now i can sleep better at night knowing in case my computer goes kaput, it's safely stored on my EHD! :)

(p.s I'm a mac user so I don't know what it's like to use this product with a PC...seeing as how there is a good reason WHY I switched to a mac, I would assume that using this product is as difficult as using everything ELSE with a PC lol)

I bought this to use with my WDTV. It plays movies, music, photos right off the harddrive to the television so you don't have to burn disks all the time. This hard drive works great and has tons of storage. Very quiet. No skipping when playing movies. Very happy with purchase.

This drive is slower than concrete over a USB connection; use an eSATA connection if at all possible. Although it's Plug&Play, you will need to reformat if you run Windows XP or later, and Windows may give you trouble with reformatting.
But Acomdata's Tech Support is VERY helpful, and will get you through any difficulties.
With an eSATA connection, you'll see why it needs an external power supply; an eSATA bus does not supply power. But you'll get World-Class storage, and the fastest data transfer you can get.

The eSATA connector was not placed proberly in the case, so the eSATA cable falls out. I took the drive out and put it into a new Thermaltake case and the drive works fine.

I chose this external hard drive for many reasons. It was on sale. I use mine to put my itunes music on it and other document and photoes. I can't say anything bad about this hard drive because it does what it's suppose to do. It has alot of space so I know I won't ever run out of room. The only thing I had to do is format the drive from fat32 to ntfs so it could store more than a 3gb file. But after that no problems.

Radio Shack shipped this very quickly. I had it two days after ordering.This is my second Acomdata 1 TB drive, so I knew it'd simply plug into my eSATA adapter and be ready for NTFS formatting. It ships FAT formatted and I knew the reformat would be required- which takes a while- but that's done just once.The drive is fast and spacious. I use it for VMWare images and video editing.You'll need to buy your own eSATA cable, as one doesn't come with the drive. But to not use eSATA is to deprive yourself of the huge speed advantage it offers over USB.

This item was not easy to use out of the box. I was required to format the drive in order to change from the FAT32 format to whatever I needed to use. However, it just takes too much time.

For backup purposes, instead of spending so much money on an HDD like this, just go with a high capacity flash drive and save just your document settings. Unless you have the time or multiple computers to deal with large backups and formats.

I love this thing. not only have I freed up my 2 flash drives, i freed up my computer's hard drive as well making it waaaaay faster. I love the way it looks it's so cool. the way it turns on it's like it turns evil because of the red light but then turns good because of the blue light which is awsome and when you're working it flashes between red and blue making it purpleish to let you know it's working (also it's bright and can be used as a night light). I like the plug in and play feature because all you have to do is slide it in just like a flash drive. although its not trully portable because it has to be plugged up but thats understandable. I wouldn't think it would get that much power from a skinny usb cord. what is also cool is that i can also plug it up to my xbox and ps3 looking at photos changing my themes and listing to music which is also cool. all in all this is a must buy. this is great when you just need just enough storage to back everything up I totally recommend this to everyone.

this drive came formatted fat32. you need to reformat to ntfs to save files larger than 4g, this took me 14 hours. also locked up vista 3 times 'till I figured out why.

This thing is lame. Very slow, loud and unreliable.
the read/ write speeds spec out at LEAST 40% slower than my iomega drive. The transfer rate is on par with a cheap-o USB stick. Stay with a real brand, and purchase from a place that actually understands computer gear.

I own 3 AcomData external drives......they are the best. Their Tech support is great! Just know if you are using a Mac that it will take a few minutes (don't panic) for the icon to show up on your desktop the very first time you plug it in. It's not formatted for MAC from the factory. Once you format it it's rock solid. I've worked with tons of different drives. These are what I buy. I work in the Film/TV industry doing post production sound. So, I need stable drives. You will be very happy with this brand.

It is doing the job we purchased it for. We have not used it long enough to know if it is reliable. The only thing that we have issues with is, for some reason if the computer is turned off and you try to reboot computer, it tries to reboot from the external drive.

This item arrived three days earlier than I'd expected, so I was able to start using it immediately. The drive is silent, reliable, and I assume quick. I'll find out how fast it is when I hook it up to something newer than my age-old computer using USB 1.1- formatting and transferring data over this format takes bloody ages, but I'd expected that. Just start your file transfer and do something else for a while. That's not the drive's fault, it's the connection speed. The Samsung drive works flawlessly. I can't wait to hook this up to something more modern and let it rip. The blue light is seriously annoying, but it's nothing a strip of electrical tape didn't fix in short order.

I got the AcomData™ pureDrive eSATA External Hard to connect to my DirecTV HD DVR. When connected to the DVR's eSATA port, the much smaller internal hard drive is bypassed and all video is recorded to the AcomData hard drive.
The AcomData hard drive works smoothly and flawlessly. When using my DVR, there is no difference other than that I now have 5X the recording time.
It's sleek design and small size works great in my entertainment center. It sits right next to my HD-DVR on the same shelf.

Have bought 1 other PureDrive and it works great and the blue LED light actually works. I also have two cases by Acomdata that you put together yourself to make an external hard drive and these work fine. I did not return the light-less PureDrive since I desperately needed to back up a failing internal drive. I would buy again. Rated lower only because I now have to be very careful about checking that the light-less PureDrive is on or off.

At first, I was about ready to send it back, because I thought it wasn't performing the way that it should.[...] All at once, it started to work just fine. As long as I turn on my computer before it is turned on, it works fine. The one thing I am disappointed in is that when you order something online, you cannot buy an extended warranty. For the many things that I've bought through Radio Shack, I've always been able to get an extended warranty.

I used this to backup 2 XP-Pro computers and a Vista Ultimate laptop at home; none of which had the eSATA connector to take advantage of the faster transfer speed. The USB 2.0 port only seemed slow when you're moving ~200GB at a time.

This unit replaced my undersized 160GB drive and I'm very happy with it. Others were out there for less, but none with eSATA capability (Firewire 400 was another choice).

I didn't look at the CD it came with, however I used the latest & greatest Nero Backup. I maunualy selected files & directories rather than using the clumsy XP/Vista backup programs.

I’m very pleased with knowing I bought it through RadioShack and not some random eRetailer, should I ever need any warrantee support.

The eSATA connector was not installed correctly, per my local computer shop, and the eSATA cable does not fit. The USB connector works OK but I really wanted the higher speed of the SATA device.

This hard drive is great, I got it when it was 119.00, that's really cheap for a 1 TB HDD. Even though it was cheap, it is very fast, very quiet, and even has a esata port on the back for even faster transfers. If you want an external hard drive, this is definitely the one you should buy. I doubt you will ever run out of memory on it, since you have 100 GBs to work with.

Out of the box plug and play. Windows Vista recognised it right away. Formatting did take some time but have had no issues since installation. Runs quiet and looks real nice. Very pleasing to the eye and I love the blue light on it. I would recomend this external hard drive to anyone looking for a good backup or Multimedia storage device.

It is a true plug n play 1TB drive for [$]. I am very happy to say that I've had no problems with my drive to date. If you plan on using the eSata interface, then you must by your own cable for a few dollars. However, the eSata is lightning fast.
