I believe i've had this router for over four years now and it's still going along just fine. I'm not sure why the others are having problems but on average, I could be using it for months and NOT even reset it.

Comments about Netgear Netgear Wireless G Router:

I have used several iterations of this device. I owned the WGR614 a and g I believe. This is basically the same wireless router Netgear has been making for years, albeit with various upgrades along the way. There's a reason for this, it is a very solid and reliable wireless router.

Most routers need to be power cycled once a week on average. This one can work for months on end with no problems. It doesn't need a driver, it has a simple web interface, however the advanced features are enough to satisfy networking experts. Simple yet powerful interface.

I decided I wanted draft N for my home networking and went with an inexpensive N router. It is ok, but with the mix of equipment (PC's, laptops, PS3, b,n, and g) it has been a little touchy. I was not able to run my network on PSK-2 or anything higher than WEP because the playstation refused to connect.
The new router is working now, but I miss the reliability and ease of use of my good ole netgear. I sold it, and I wish I hadn't because I am prolly buying this again for my sister's family.

You won't need N speeds unless streaming multimedia across your network.

Comments about Netgear Netgear Wireless G Router:

I have a mac laptop and desktop PC and this thing has just stopped working several times over the last year for no apparent reason. I had to call, wait on hold for at least a half hour, and talk to someone who treated me like a first grader to get it to work again. You shouldn't have to spend so much time getting a broken product to work properly. On top of that, after my one-year warranty expired, they no longer offer support to fix it when it breaks. A business ought to stand by their product and a customer should be able to expect that their purchase will last longer than a month without breaking down, and longer than a year without having to buy a new one. I wish I'd known how important tech support and an extended warranty were before I bought this; also, it'd be good to have a rating of reliability on wireless routers.

This router is a great must-have for any networking purpose. It is fast, reliable, and I don't quite know how to secure it yet but I will eventually. I have bought 3 of these, well, my grandparents have. One for me, another for my aunt, and another for my grandma which I got at [...] a few days to a week ago. All of them work perfectly and we have had no problems out of them. I love this router and I would recommend it to anyone. I bought mine on June 26, 2009 and it is still going strong. Great product.

Comments about Netgear Netgear Wireless G Router:

If the humidity is over 60%, it drops the internet connection -- sometimes as much as five or six times an hour. I don't know if it's the signal strength, the fact that it's a G router, the electronics inside the thing, or what -- but I've never had this problem with other wireless routers that I've had in the house. I'm sorry that I got rid of my old B router (Linksys).

Netgear has been of no help to me. Those few support people who could speak even a bad imitation of English couldn't understand the issue. One sorta kinda admitted that this model has problems in humidity.

By Unhappy in Indiana from Hammond, IN on 10/15/2009
Pros:
Easy To Set Up
Cons:
Unreliable
Bottom Line:

Comments about Netgear Netgear Wireless G Router:

I had this router 6 weeks when I started having problems getting onto the internet. Radio Shack would not exchange it. I had to keep wasting time calling NetGear for help every night. The technicians didn't speak English and were difficult to understand. And it took them forever to look up the directions to give me to fix it. Luckily, I had purchased a service plan and it only cost me [$] to replace a router that should have lasted much longer than 6 weeks. I would never buy this brand again and will probably purchase my new router anywhere but at Radio Shack.

During setup if it is dectected that you have PPPoE to conect to your ISP you are asked to supply username and password. Doesn't explain that this username and password is the same that you use with your ISP. In my case with Bellsouth/AT&T. I had spent 37 min trying to talk to TECH who was of no help. Finally found the PPPoE info in online help topic "No internet thought the router" Works great now.

A waste of money. Does not function as advertised, i.e. does not find and connect to the network only one room away, and does not even seem to work through its own software thoroughly. There are very few options before the software directs you to contact the network administrator.

All i have to say is Linksys > Netgear . Im also a tech and i must say if you want a good reliable router get a linksys. Netgear tends to have long term issues from daily use as you see from the other posts ,linksys also has cisco support which does wonders for security ontop of the many features it has lol i love setting it so my family can only get on at certain times and can only goto certain sites lol. Sorry people netgear sux [*] only good for non wireless network cards if u ask me lol.

I have had this router for over a year. It replaced a Linksys that was zapped by lighting. I bought a small UPS for this one.

I have both wired and wireless devices using WPA2-TPIK and AES connected including a Apple G4 Dual 1.42 (wired), Apple MiniMac (wired), HP 175 Jet Direct (wired), Apple Airport Express (music streaming) Wireless, iBook G4 wireless and sometimes wired, a Palm T/X wireless (remote for iTunes), and HP Laptop running XP and now Vista (usually wireless unless i move a lot of data through my VPM connection to work, and an iPhone (wireless). All work flawlessly without issue over the entire house and the back deck. The security setup was easier than on my older linksys and connections are solid and I haven't had a dropped connection since replacing my older 2.4 Ghz phones. Netgear connects to a Linksys cable modem.

Overall, this router is worthless. You'll have days when you'll think, "This is great! Works well and what a deal!" But that's just this evil router's way of tricking you. Because about every other week, or so, this router will NOT stay connected for longer than a few minutes. I've had to re-connect FOUR times just in the short time it's taken me to write this review. Save your money and get a better router that actually works (and isn't evil)!

Just recently switched from AT&T to Comcast and I bought this today at radioshack. Im returning it tomorrow to exchange it for another kind. I have it hooked to my Playstation 3 via Ethernet cord and wit works fine. However, I also have it hooked to my Dell laptop via wireless. The wireless won't hold up for nothing. It connects for a while but looses connection right in the middle of downloads (which makes me sooo mad). I am a computer/ Network Tech by the way so Yes, I do know what Im doing. Other than that it is a good router so far.

I have a pretty fair computer background, but until today I have never done anything with networking. I bought the Wireless-G router with a Super-G Wireless PC Card. Then I started fixing my lunch, and started setting up the gear at the same time.

I had everything up and running before my food was ready. I even had my Wii updating it's software. If it continues to work like it does now in... oh let's say a month, I'll consider this a very good purchase. (experience has shown me that if problems don't crop up in the first month or two, your not going to have a major problem unless visible physical damage has occurred.)

Comments about Netgear Netgear Wireless G Router:

Out of the box set up was a piece of cake. CD helps to make sure you've made all connections correctly. I could not get an internet signal after making all the proper connections. I called tech support. They were easy to talk to and very patient. They were in the Phillipines, but his English was very good. He had me check several things and was eventually able to determine that the problem was with the current LAN settings on my computer. We made the changes and immediately had a connection. Ran my PC and my laptop off the router already. Both ran efficiently with no delays. Great little piece of equipment. Bought it on sale - great value for the money. THANKS Radio Shack and NETGEAR!

Works well for G series with encryption
I can not get it to work with my IBM notebook with an Intel pro wireless lan 2100 3b mini in WEP mode. I have installed the latest intel drivers. It works in unsecure mode with the 2100 3b mini but when connecting with a security key, it lets you connect but will not allow you to do anything. My son's DS lite works with WEP 64bit on this router.
Learn to use the reset button on the back after making changes to the setup.

WEP key issues: If you generate a passkey based on a phase, it will show you a key in uppercase letters and numbers. If you have difficulty, try entering the key on your device with lower case letters. That is what I have to do to get the key to work. I here B mode devices are not well supported. It works much better with G mode wireless lans. I wish the DS ran better encrytion.
Do not bypass the encryption. learn to use it. WEP is not the safest, WPA is better but at least it should keep most out of your network.

After connecting the router to the computer and opening internet explorer, an install screen came up , installed prefectly. I did a wired connection, haven't tried the wireless, should work though.

My main 2 reasons for the router is the firewall and when someone else comes over with a laptop, pc or apple, can connect. I have had several different brands of laptops in my house and everyone had no difficulty connecting to the internet. Setup another router just like mine in a friends house and no problems there either. Only thing, once in a great while it needs to be rebooted but what doesn't.

Comments about Netgear Netgear Wireless G Router:

I've setup several wireless networks, using various brands of routers. Was recommending Linksys, till I bought this one for my own home. I've got a pretty complex network built using several Netgear products, all have been VERY reliable. As far as the setup, just need to understand what you are trying to accomplish before you tackle it. If you don't, seek a pro's help. Most tech support is reading off queue cards, can't help in all situations. Location is important, have it as close to center as possible but need to be creative. These unit are small and white, they blend into any decor. Our's in the living room (wife approved) tucked behind a picture on top of the entertainment center.

Comments about Netgear Netgear Wireless G Router:

I did my research and found Netgear to be the highest reviewed for wireless routers. I originally intended to purchase the Rangemaster for [$], but then I decided to try the [$] Wireless G instead. I'm glad I did! My dsl modem and wireless router are located at the opposite end of the house from where my fiance' and I have our laptops. The signal is just as strong there, and it works very well. I experienced a little difficulty setting up the router, but it was a problem with the configuration of my dsl modem and not the router. After spending about forty-five minutes on the phone with ATT tech support, I had everything up and running. Excellent router at an excellent price.

Comments about Netgear Netgear Wireless G Router:

I was looking for an inexpensive wireless router to set up as an access point. My expectations were fairly modest, so I picked this one up on sale.

It immediately boots up to the access screen and it's a breeze to set up. I had no problems changing the settings to turn it into an access point. It has enough range to reach the entire house, and enough encryption to keep it secure. I was pleasantly surprised.

It gets warm, so make sure you put it upright on the enclosed stands for ventilation. I wonder if overheating is the cause for some of the early failures noted on other review sites.

I bought this product thinking not only was I getting a great deal, but the reviews were excellent. Their customer support left alot to be desired, not to mention how incomplete their database feels. Typing in one question gives you 10,000 answers and I just don`t have that kind of time to sift through answers. I am very computer savvy-I design websites for a living- and this was by far the hardest thing I have even done. I say, spend the extra bucks on a router that includes really good support. This one, just doesn`t include that.

I read many reviews ...

Comments about Netgear Netgear Wireless G Router:

I read many reviews regarding this unit prior to purchase. Many were poor and some were great. Being the optomist that I am I went with the latter. That was a big error in judgement. First let me say that this is not the first network that I have worked on. From the beginning with the poor at best instructions to the fact that I never did get the computer to communicate with the modem was a disaster. The instructions say not to connect anything...when you start the set-up wizard the first thing it does is look for an internet connection, finds none and tells you there is an error!!! Then you have to quit the software and wonder what to do next. There is a 75 page manual on the CD. However, after searching and figuring that you have to turn enerything off, the manual is gone unless you want to print a 75 page book. Needless to say, I will stay with my MR 314 unit for a while. I never did call product support...I believed the poor reviews that I read on them. I would never recommend this unit. My next is a Linksys for sure.
