The where am I feature gives you the latitude and longitude coordinates. Do you know where you are by these ? A few might but , most would rather have a feature that tells you the nearest town and services with the option of using the plus and minus buttons to pan out.The sound is a little tinny,, maybe a higher quality speaker would let it sound better. This is at the higher volume levels,, I like to drive with my window partially open . With no windows open in a quiet car it might be alright as is. I really can't imagine using the bluetooth with the speaker supplied. Not all of the voices available are supported by the TTS feature.The trail feature ( don't know the proper term )shows everywhere you have been. This is handy when returning from a destination as you can see if that is the way you originally traveled.Other than the minor items listed I am very happy with this GPS. The price was right at around [$] delivered to my house.

It is inaccurate on some addresses by about 1/2mile (my home address for one). Takes spells of acquireing satellites slow even when out in the open and a clear day.

I got this for Christmas, and just love it. It is user friendly, so far very reliable, and so far fairly accurate. In other words, just simply easy to use. I would recommend this unit for anyone who needs a good reliable gps or someone who just wants something to mess around with. There are not many cons that come to mind only pros. The only con that does come to mind is, it is not the easiest unit to update, but other than that nothing really comes to mind on why not to buy it; it is just a good gps to own. Even though I am fairly good at finding my way around area, I still get lost once in a while (not proud of the fact, but yes I admit I get lost); and this gps is really good at getting me into areas that I am familar with. In my opion, the Garmin nuvi 255w is the way to go, if you are looking for a really good, reliable, and easy to use gps.

I haven't even opened the manual yet (after a month), but have used the GPS already on several occasions. That is how easy it is to use. It is very straight forward and I love that it has street names spoken. When I was in a rural location though, the satelite did not pick up my exact location, but was close enough that it didn't matter.

I typically do well in my own medium sized town, but when I go on road trips a GPS comes in very handy. My most recent was to Portland, OR, which can be a very stressful place to drive if you're not used to it. With the Garmin, however, it wasn't that bad; especially with it actually saying the directions out loud so I could focus on driving. It made all the difference!

Very cool device. My wife and I got it for ourselves for Christmas. Radio Shack had a killer sale and took advantge of it. Light weight yet with a large screen, the windshield suction-cup mount works great. While it did not come with a USB cable, I had one from a camera that worked fine. Bought a little hard case for it from The Shack and am good to go. Easy to register, update and use, I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for a GPS. I can even stick in on my motorcycle or use in on my bicycle as the battery is good up to 4 hours. Auto dimming for night.

I love this GPS, we bought this for our second vehicle (our first has a Nuvi 205) and we love using this Nuvi 255. The voices leave a little to be desired, but it is super easy to use, and can do so many things. I highly recommend it!

We are happy with product and price. We did find it at Monticello Radio Shack store at same price, but out of stock. So we left to go on line to shop, and Radio Shack online came up w/same price. Suggestion would be for stores that are out of stock to offer going on-line, perhaps even at the store, to order. That way Radio Shack on-line and stores work together to help customer out.

We own one already and bought 2 more for the parents for xmas. We use it for anywhere we're unfamiliar with. Pretty reliable, very good battery life. I love the "Find Nearby" feature. Only gripes I have are it's hard to plan an alternate route from what the GPS says, say if you know for sure you want to take a back road instead of a toll road. And it had some trouble acquiring satellites when we went across the country on vacation. But it eventually worked fine!

Garmin does not provide any instructions although it is self explanatory. The unit is a bit slow to respond and directs you to turn almost at the turn. Sometimes takes you to the place in a longer pathway and not in a direct, more easier way. Volume could be better. However, I still like the unit in totally new areas.

Since purchasing the Nuvi 255W we have used it for several trips. It worked just great. Love the way it drops the contrast of the screen when it gets dark for night time driving. The unit is percise and easy to follow. If only the unit's voice was a bit more feminine. My wife nicknamed the unit Pita for Pain in the A-- because it talks alot especially when it has to recalculate. This does not bother me.

i just got thif 255w, well actually im on my second one now and have had the first one for 3 days it was way off like miles off from were my house and other places were. then got a new one yesterday, and the same freaking thing but worse my house doesnt exist on this one and then it does and when it does show my house its miles off. i must be unlucky.,. everywere i have gone with both of these have taking me to far from were i needed to go. hopefully garmin is going to work something out with me again because 2 - 255w in a week dont make any sense.. i will admit it has some nice features ecoroute is great for your gas milage and all that ... but the way it is for being inaccurate is pretty ridicilous. i have owned a couple garmin handhends and a 205 they were great no problems with them but hopefully i get this resolved or get another company any suggestions.

I just purchased the Garmin 255WT (the "T" stands for "traffic", which gives traffic updates) and could not be happier. The device was easy to set up right out of the box and was also fully charged. I was able to use accessories that I already had for the Nuvi 350, which died on me last week, so I did not have to buy these accessories again. The device comes with a suction cup mount, a car charger, and a lithium battery installed. You need to get an AC adaptor separately, as well as a USB cable, so that you can connect it to your pc to get updated maps, downloads, etc. The display is large, clear, bright,and sharp, satellite signals were picked up very quickly, the signal strength was strong, even indoors, the voice was loud and clear, and the device could be heard even with the radio on. It quickly recalculates your route if you make a wrong turn, making it even easier and more convenient. It is very accurate, but not 100%. No GPS device will be completely accurate, so for back-up, bring a printed map with you as well as some common sense thinking, and this combination will get you to your destination easily. The 255W is a wonderful companion and I would not leave home without it.

Recently took a trip to Chicago with 3 girlfriends for the weekend and depended on the unit to get us around town and to avoid traffic. We've nick named the voice in the unit as GG (Garmin Girl). It took all the stress out of finding places. GG gives you plenty of notice before it's time to turn. Every woman who travels should have one (men too, but they don't ask for directions so why bother).

Easy to program, easy to use, easy to read. I won't be leaving home without GG in the future.

I will use the GPS primarily for longer cross country trips. A secondary use will be in visiting major cities.

I like the intuitive nature of the product. In typical male fashion, I figured out how to use the GPS with out reading the instructions.

It is great recalculation alternate routes if you choose not to use the primary route.

I haven't figured out an easy way to find a specific location like a motel several huindred miles from current location with out using the address approach.

The map update process was easy.

I use mine daily, my work takes in 4 States. I owned two other brands, this a hands down the best FYI i have a 2002 vehicle with greater than 160,000 miles, i do not leave home with out my garmin nuvi 255. would i recommend it to a friend? i did and she bought one, and loves it too!!!!

An easy to use, but with all the necessary features GPS. It sports an easy to view screen, even in sunlight, coupled with a very good layout which makes picking up what is going on at a glance easy. Controls are simple, and in an automotive GPS, "less is more!"

The volume is quite adequate if not spectacular, and the text to speech, allowing for spoken street names, is an important feature. The "Where am I" feature will definitely come in handy, letting you know not only where you are, but nearby intersections, and other helpful info!

An unexpected benefit of the 4.3" screen is that you can have your keyboard layout in full QWERTY, making location input a snap, not to mention that it uses predictive text, also shortening time spent inputting locations! I also like how there is a "folder" (windows-like) where you can quickly pull up previously entered cities...

It came with up to date maps, and the Garmin web site is useful and informative...did a web update to the firmware immediately, which was a snap to do.

Only "complaint" is that it really should have come with a mini USB cable...I've got several anyhow, and many folks do...but some do not, and you really want to be able to update firmware, etc., through Garmin.

I'm only using my nuvi 255W since June 10, so I can't attest to it's reliability, but so far, I can't find anything wrong with it. I suggest that new buyers download and print out from the Garmin website the 64 pg manual for the 255W and read it before taking the GPS on the road. Also take advantage of the free, one-time North American Map update by downloading it before the expiration date. Buy Garmin's friction mount; it's much better than any suction cup mount including the one that comes with the unit, Stay away from vent mounts; they tend to get stuck in the vent blades and can damage the vent outlet tryig to remove the mount from the vent. The built in Lithium Ion battery will run down in 4 hours just as Garmin claims, so make sure you take/leave the car power cord that comes with this unit in the glove compartment.

Drove from Tulsa Ok to Richardson TX and the estimated time of arrival from the NUVI 255W was 15 seconds off from our actual arrival time. We made several stops during our trip and the GPS recalculated after each stop and still managed to calculate our arrival time within 15 seconds... Great device!!

Had an old Garmin, and updated first to a TomTom, big mistake! Live in a more rural area, and every address the TomTom would say "no numbers for this address" defeats the purpose of a GPS. Couldn't find anything, upgraded to the Garmin. Problem solved. Very nice GPS!

I had 2 TOMTOMs and a SONY before I got the Garmin 255W. Radio Shack stood behind every one and I applaud them for that. The Garmin is simple, straight forward, and easy to use. I'm 68 years old so simplicity is a requirement for me even though I have 45 years experience with mainframe computers. I have contacted their Tech Support a couple times with questions and it was good. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this unit.
