This Garmin is a piece of junk. I was so upset spending over 3 hrs on Houston Toll way going back and forward to nowhere when the address of the Toyota repair shop its about 2 block from my first start out. Not only it show you the wrong direction to nowhere some of the time it show your car going opposite the tracking direction the navigation tell you where to go. Because I was out of town on business trips and didn’t get back to my home town almost a month and half later, so I cannot return this piece of junk after 30 days. Now this Garmin 760 is in their original box for an opportunity to give to someone I hate.

This is a very good unit, but needs significant improvement for the price. On start-up, it will drop the voice commands on occasion, essentially selecting no voice. The satellite acquisition can be very slow or very quick...there is no consistency. The battery life, when not hooked up to power is minutes. I like the features, but wouldn't recommend the unit.

This unit has many features and is a great GPS unit. The Bluetooth is lacking. Using the hands free, I have had many complaints that there is bad background noise. If you use the FM transmitter while on a call, the other end gets an echo. Also, (No fault of Garmin) unless your cell phone has the PBAP profile, it will not download your contacts to the unit. The GPS is very accurate and fast. Lots of features, lots of POI. VERY solid GPS. Just don't buy it for the hands free. You could probably step down a model that doesn't have hands free and save some cash.

Great features at a great price. Newer models are out, but don't offer these features for this kind of value. Less than half original list price. Garmin refurbished units carry a full 1 year warranty.

This product is great, I am in the oilfield and travel daily, Rig locations have no address, but this device allows me to input coordinates and it gets me exactly where I need to go. I suggest this model NUVI to anyone who does a lot of long distance traveling

Even though I have traveled the 3 hour trip from Austin to Houston many times the traffic feature warned me of traffic jam near on my route near home and I saved over 20 minutes by taking a suggested alternate route.

One of Consumer Reports top rated models. Improvements over the years makes updating an older model well worth the price. (Especially if you can find this model for under 200 dollars.) We live in small rural area -- and taking the recommended shortest route (down windy gravel roads) could be a problem if you're not familiar with the area. I come from a family of great map readers -- with this GPS -- trees will live much longer lives.

This unit is better than the 265W that is the 2009 model. It comes with a beautiful black finish and has good battery life when offline. The FM transmitter can be difficult here in San Diego's saturated airwaves. Finally got a good dead spot and have got a lot of compliments on the unit.

Nice product for the price. Mainly bought due to price and features - esp. Bluetooth. Paired easily but initial pairing took a while - frustrating. But once paired, worked great. Consider placing near rear-view mirror if you plan to use Bluetooth feature frequently. Kids get a kick out of multiple car symbols you can download from Garmin's website. Overall happy with the purchase. People who plan to carry it around with them may want to look at Garmin Nuvi 360w, which is smaller & cheaper with almost the same features.

OK -- I guess my Garmin 760 must have been a total lemon because I am having issues that are listed elsewhere. I got the unit for and the next two days we tried to use it over 10 + hours of driving. Occasionally it worked as advertised, but more often than not it would and then died.

1) Stop speaking altogether (usually after turning on the car and starting a new leg of the trip). Each time we would go to LANGUAGE and under VOICE there would show "None found" and there were no drop down menu choices. Resetting to default settings did nothing. Usually after restarting multiple times the VOICE would finally reload.

2) It takes a long time to initially synchronization and lock into the satellites when turned on; it took well over 60 seconds each time.

3) Frequently on start-up, we would get either the message "Loading maps" or "Acquiring satellite," and the unit would just freeze on this message indefinitely. Sometimes it would show our position accurately on a map even while saying that it was trying to acquire a satellite. After toggling off and then on again, we would get to set a route.

4) The navigation is jerky (even the vehicle on the map jerks) and the audio instructions are so slow

5) During its short lifespan it gave incorrect instructions. One such instruction was given while traveling on a major interstate. The 760 said to bear left onto I-95. I-95 was to the right. Bearing left would have placed us on I-80.

6) After one such restart the unit just died. This was only two days after I received the unit. Dead, no go.

Needless to say, we just returned this unit back to Radioshack.com. Delivered on Fri. Returned on Mon. It cost $10+ to ship it back to Radioshack.com with refund expected in 4 weeks after their receipt of the unit. I am not sure whether I will try again or not.

Refurbished is always a risk, but you hope that with a company as well know as Garmin and a leader in the industry, that when they put these products back out in the market would be thoroughly tested. However, when the unit has problems right out of the box and completely dies after only 2 days of use . . . it raises more than an eyebrow or two.

Plus, now that I have searched in hindsight, other reviewers from other sites have had similar experiences with NEW and refurbished units.

My very first GPS was a Garmin. After a few years, I felt I needed an upgrade. I tried 3 others and was not happy. I then ordered the Nuvi 760 and am extremely happy with it! I use it daily. If you think your lost - press HOME. I have the 2008 N. American Map and it is about 99% acurate - you have to get used to how it directs you (once you do, you will love it). You can take it with you (hand held)when you leave the car and it will take you to your destination and if you get lost, it will find your "last location" (your car for example) and guide you to it. Great gadget and it works!
