The unit works great *when* it works. It quit working and TomTom refuses to fix it. Says it's out of warranty and no paper receipt they won't do anything. I am now in posession of a glorified paperweight. Will NEVER buy from Tomtom again. Looking at garmin, nav world? or magellan..research before you buy there are pages and pages of the same complaints!

I use my Tomtom every day. I have had it for about 6 months now and for the price its a wonder how i ever lived without it. Satellite strength seems to vary depending on the area your in. Tom Tom has an update that you can download to the unit daily to improve the satellite signal and quality. I would hardly say that i am tech savvy but not too unfamiliar with how to work small gadgets. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the easiest to use, I would rate it a 10. Now for the downsides...what few their are. I bought this as a beginner navigation system and Radio Shack had it for[$]around Christmas. I think it is worth its weight in gold. But now that I'm used to it the plateau effect is sort of setting in. Of course the [$]gets your foot in the door but there is a whole world of additions that can nickel and dime you to death. Some of which come as standard features on some other nav units. For example, the real time traffic receiver is 100$ from the TomTom site and you get a 1 year subscription. The yearly subscription fee is another 60$!!! This option is standard on some other (more pricier) models. My most recent disappointment was the cheapest fuel price app. This app is supposed to help you find the cheapest fuel in your area or along your route. Although the fuel prices do not correspond with real world fuel prices whatsoever. So overall the TomTom does what its supposed to do and I would recommend it.

The size of the words/directions/speeds/time on the screen were impossible to see. Everything was so small we were looking more at the GPS than the road. It got us to where we were trying to go great. Also, it was sometimes hard to tell which way or when we would be turning.

I will highly recommend this product for the first time user as well as the most experienced, due to the fact you can't get lost. if you make a wrong turn it gets you back on track before the next exit or block coming up, it recovers and re-routes immediately. This is a Great Product as well as a Good buy, it will eliminate the headaches on new traveling adventures.

This is a lifesaver! I am terrible with directions (hence needing a gps) and this has been great! I am also not very techno-savvy, and it was very easy to use. I barely checked out the instruction manual before using it. I would recommend this to anybody, and at this price it is an absolute bargain.

Although I can find my way around pretty easily, I use GPS to find alternate routes around home and for long-distance travel in new areas. This unit announces street names & exit numbers for turns and gives you warning about whether to move left or right. It's a bit slow getting a signal, but rock solid once it has it. The voice is easy to understand, it sounds more human than some digital voices. It's easy to move between cars. And the package included an AC charger, which another unit did not.

This is a really nice unit for the money. I use this in Boston every day and really like it. The only complaint is that the map is over 1 yr old and does not show the recent highway changes in Providence. The free upgrade that came in the box does not work online.

When I received the product, the maps were outdated and the offer card inside had a useless, obsolete serial number (which differed from the code embedded in the GPS' inf file).

I called TomTom support (since even the Radio Shack refurb comes with a 6-month P&L warranty), emailed them as well, and within 48 hours had their approval for a full update attached to my account, so I didn't even have to type in a long code - just login.

Without TomTom's support, I would have returned this very unhappily to Radio Shack. Now, however, I encourage you to buy this item, because it's a GREAT deal, AND CALL OR EMAIL TOMTOM and get what you're due - a full 856MB map update and the full software package it's supposed to come with.

Radio Shack should really have put a disclaimer that the user needs to call TomTom to get the obsolete map updated before attempting to use it, but for $79.99. which is what I paid, it's WELL worth the money. Post-support resolution, that is.

So far I'm satisfied with the unit. It sometimes gives a route that includes backroads, which I was surprised at, since I selected the default, "find quickest route", but it does the job. I have not used it for any long trips, but I have planned some longer routes and checked them against a map, and it looks like it does ok.

Excellent product. I was reluctant to purchase a refurbished GPS, but I have not been disappointed. The only con is that the suction is weak on the mounting. However, there is a sticker mount included that I think will work better. Don't be afraid to buy refurbished items here.

I purchased this from Radio Shack as a Christmas present. The 1st time my daughter used it it stopped working. I tried to replace it through Radio Shack and they told me I had to go through TomTom. TomTom told me I only had a 6 month warrany even through I had paperwork stating a 12 month warranty. However, it quit working the 1st month so it should not matter. TomTom kept giving me the run around in regards to replacing it so I just gave up. I will never purchase a TomTom again.

I do transporting of individuals and this device is helpful in locating the homes quickly. I have another gps that has a ring tone which alerts you that you are at your turn, which this device does not do, but it is small and it sets up right out of the box for convient use.

This is a very nice little unit - easily mounted and removed, good fit in pocket, briefcase, etc., doesn't have lots of confusing buttons, picked up satellites VERY fast, considering I live so far north. The BIG problem is that the maps are outdated (my street's been here for 4 years, but doesn't show on the map), the update code is EXPIRED, and it would be another $40 (or half the price of the unit itself) to get the updates I'm supposed to get for free, according to the documentation in the box. I've contacted TomTom direct for remediation of these issues, and will follow up on whether or not they deliver. Just don't expect it to be accurate out of the box -- it ain't. It's in good condition - it's just missing a few marbles. If not for that, I would recommend it.

I absolutely love my TomTom, my only problem with it was the mounting stand tolerances were WAY to tight - I absolutely could not mount it without using my dremel tool to open the gap. Otherwise, it is accurate, shows my speed (!), easy to setup, just wish I could afford the even better ones - but for [$], you WILL NOT BEAT THIS GPS !!! I've sold 5 so far to friends, and still going!

it seems to be a good product and so fare it works great. it was a gift for my mom (65 yrs young), she's the not the most technologically savey comsumer. the on screen menu's take some practice to operate correctly and navigate. i have another unit from a different manufacturer and it's much simpler to operate on the fly. this product is not so easy to navigate through the meneu while underway.

This is so easy to use. I am not good at setting up new things but this was very easy. I also connected to the internet by myself. I wanted A Tom Tom For a long Time, I bought A Refurbished Tom Tom One Third Edition, and it works great. I don't Drive in town much, so this is a great help to me. The screen was a little small for me. But rather than that a nice Product.
I also Bought the Tom Tom XL, which has a larger screen and will do just a little bit more.

I love this product. I am an independent advisor for an in home sales company and I have yet to find a website that I can trust for directions, half of them get you lost. This way I can get to my show in a timely manner and even when I am unsure of the roads I am on it shows me which way to go. Good when you need to get around an accident and are not sure where you are going!

I find that using this product it finds stores and roads street were i need to go the only thing that it dose sometime is it tell me the place is here and it up the road about 100 feet off but outside of that i like it. I think that the up dating is a little to high for someone like me that just use it casual.

Very disappointing. The handful of times we've used the TomTom, when we need directions, it's made us lost and late. Really a waste of time and money. It won't stay suctioned down on it's matt either, we spend a lot of time pressing it down constantly. We are very displeased with the product and wonder what it's supposed to be used for as it doesn't function as advertised.

Though the map is a year old without a map guarantee (that's the limitation of a refurb - plus the shorter warranty, 6 months), I was thrilled with the online updating of MapShare corrections. I even entered my own corrections when a street was closed, a [...] was off by 200 yards, and another street was incorrectly labeled one-way. Some good Point-Of-Interest collections (like Drive-In Theaters) are also available on the website. (Be warned, people submit a lot of junk to the site too. But entries are rated which helps.) For the first couple months, satellite acquistion was very snappy. Recently, it bogged down a bit (taking a minute or more at start-up) but now it seems fine again. Hopefully, that was only a brief episode. Inclusion of a Canada map is a huge plus over some competitors (like Garmin). My first GPS but I love it.

Great GPS for the road warrior who has to frequent areas where he/she may not be familiar...also worked great in a very rural mountain area with winding, cross-over, intersecting roads...in all honesty, it actually works better than the GPS navigation system in my Lexus GS-350.

A great little unit. When used frequently will acquire Sats quickly. When not used for a while, or flying to another part of the country, it would often take 15 minutes to lock on location. A long time waiting in a rental car lot. Also will often suggest the most direct route, always suggesting the most direct way thru a city, rather than time-saving (and safer) highways. Other than that no complaints... Be sure to hook it up to your PC and TomTom Home every month for updates. Enjoy

The only thing I wish I had gotten was text-to-speech, or the ability to say the street names. But I love my tom tom! I have so many friends and family who borrow it and don't want to give it back. What a bargain! I usually have found refurbished items to be without any risk. Generally the company takes extra care and time to insure each unit is performing up to standards before releasing it for sale. This doesn't happen on assembly line manufacturing. I have had numerous GPS units (Call it a hobby) and I have found TomTom to be top rate. Some think the menus are complex but I do not find them to be overly so. One of the major things I like about the TomTom's is the ability to tailor-make most features: map colors, voices, routing, keyboard, direct entry lat/long co-ordinates (great for geo-caching), language, etc. Visually, the display is colorful and the lettering is large and easily readable. Usable information pops on the screen when navigating: name of the town, the next street, the street you're on, side streets, railroad tracks, arrival time, speed/speed limit, drive time, etc. All without accessing the menus and taking your eyes off the road for very long. The speaker is very loud and completely adjustable. No problems here!

The feature that is missing on this unit is text-to-speech. However, I find it to be of little value on most all brands of GPS units. Spoken street names are generally quieter than the other vocal instructions. Often robotic sounding, the street names are also mis-pronounced frequently leaving you in a major intersection with other traffic whizzing by at 75 mph thinking to yourself: "What did he say???"

Believe me, you can do a lot worse and spend two-three times more doing it, on many GPS units out there. I rate TomTom highest on the most useful features, Garmin on the most useless, Magellan on the most screwball routing, and Moov on the best voice. As the man said: "You pays your money and takes your chances".

They will all get you there, eventually, depending on the level on frustration you can tolerate. But I would go with TomTom, any unit, for overall satisfaction. Have fun...

I just got this one last week and its not showing a highway that opened 2yrs ago. I tried to update it with the tomtom home map update, it showed that my map is 7.46 or something and the new one is 8.78 then i went to the website it asked me for $87 for a map update. with the [$] I already spent on the unit I'll be out $[$] thats more than a nonrefurbished one. with a real update. I'm returning this one and getting a garmin.

This is a great GPS and if peaple are having hardware problems it's NOT because its a refurb. It works great. I would recommend buying a TomTom, Magellen, or a Garmin. Those are the top brands.

Not a bad GPS overall. Fairly good map database (most of my neighborhood is less than 5 years old but was well mapped) and directions were mostly accurate. However, there was one spot in the downtown area of a relatively small town (Lagrange, Georgia) when it kept taking me in circles. Bigger issue though was loose connections in the car charger which pretty much made the unit useless since battery capability is poor - would assume that was reason for refurb.

Would have been pretty good value for money, if not for the hardware issues!

Works great when it works. Battery life is poor. You must have it plugged into your auxillary power in your car to power it up. Don't think you can take it and walk around unless you plan to lug a 12volt battery with you (and adapter).

The TomTom One 3rd edition in my opinion is better for a paper weight than to get you to where you need to go. I took a little venture trip to see how it worked, as I have used another brand before and loved it, I started to notice that streets that have not existed for 5 or more years are still on the unit. Streets that have been built 6 years ago are not on the unit. So I went home and tried to update and it updated. So I took another trip around the city, and nothing had changed. I tried updating again, and noticed that I would have to pay $89.00 to update the unit fully. Needless to say I have returned the unit and now have a Garmin, which is fully updated.

This is the 4th TomTom that I've owned. I still own 3, but one of them was stolen. [$] is a fantastic deal for the TomTom One, especially since it comes with the "latest map guarantee". 3 of them have been refurbished with no porblems. I've been using this refurbished one from Radio Shack for a week now with no problems at all. The free map upgrade wouldn't work automatically when following the instructions that came with the unit [...]Hints: If you have other TomToms you can save the favorites to your PC and then load them onto the new TomToms rather than having to reenter them. That way your favorites are on all of your TomToms, which for me is important with 5 drivers depending on them all the time, with lots of destinations\favorites. Note that you will need to reload the favorites everytime you update the maps.Also, if you connect the GPS to your computer and log in to TomTom home every now and then the GPS will find the sattelites quicker becasue TomTom will "tell" the GPS where the sattelites are in the sky.

Great as a first GPS, and at an excellent price. We found it easy to set up initially and easy to configure for a trip. You'll want to know something about your route because it's programmed to always choose the shortest route on paper, not necessarily the fastest route in reality. Got some turns wrong around Philadelphia but nothing major. I think my next unit will have a larger display and a louder speaker. It can't compete with a radio or road noise. I got the refurb and so far, it's fine. I'll be happy if I get one year, just to learn about other features.

I got this refurbished GPS to replace my Pharos 135. It looks cute at first sight, like a new one. Navigation is fast compared to my Pharos 135. But then a big problem comes-it sometimes talk, sometimes NOT! This is terrible. I often buy refurbished iterms, and seldom came to any problem. It is great when it works. But my first unit reset itself from time to time. I got a replacement. This one has two problems:

1. It dies in certain locations. After that, you have to drive a few miles away to rescue it. Even reset doesn't help. And you can't go back with it alive.
2. It can't plan certain routes like from A to B, while it can do from A to C and C to B.

I used it from Pennsylvania to Ontario, Canada without problem except a minor detour. But so far, I have found three locations in Bay area it has problem1. And many spots with problem2.

Forget printing directions from MapQuest anymore. With the Tom Tom you will always know where you are going and the shortcuts to your most favorite spots. I recently used mine to find a previously undiscovered route home. Traffic problems? This Tom Tom will not give you live traffic conditions, but you can easily avoid a road block or seek an alternate route with the easy to use touch pad. The Tom Tom narrates turns to you, without orally naming roads, but the map is usually clear and precise and if you do take a wrong turn the Tom Tom will recalculate and still get you where you need to be.
