Comments about TomTom TomTom® GO 730 GPS Receiver (Refurbished):

I bought a brand new one. It can't find my house or schools I need to travel to. I had to stop at the police station in one town to get accurate directions. My advice by a garmin Nuvi two of my friends have them and love them. I recieved this as a christmas gift from my wife. She finally said I wish I had never given it to you. I told her that makes two us. I have spent more hours than I care to admitt on telephone with tom tom support. Do yourself and a favor and pass on all tom tom units unless you like wild goose chases.

Comments about TomTom TomTom® GO 730 GPS Receiver (Refurbished):

The TT hardware works OK but the suction cup attachment is inadequate and don't buy a refurbished TomTom. When they say factory refurbished, they mean it was returned to the factory to fix the broken HARDWARE but they DID NOT UPDATE the original dated map software (mine was 18 months old when I received it). It will cost more to purchase the map update than if purchased new with current maps. The other disadvantage with a refurbed TT is that you only get half the warranty. This is precisely the situation with my purchase. This is my second TT and when I wrote the company about the price disconnect between buying new vs. refurbed, they blew me off three times. Bottom Line: If this is how they treat loyal repeat customers, it is the last they will see of me--next time I will buy a Garmin.
Remember: Refurbished means HARDWARE ONLY, software will be old/outdated and the warranty will be reduced as well.

I use the TomTom in my Account Rep. job. It helps me save hours a day being more efficient getting from customer to customer. It is easy to use. I love the bluetooth capability. I use the iteniary daily. The only downside is the out of date maps. This effects me where new construction has changed the exits. The cost of upgrading the maps would offset buying a new unit.

Comments about TomTom TomTom® GO 730 GPS Receiver (Refurbished):

First big bonus, you get the latest version map for free from TomTom the first time you hook the device up to your computer.

I mainly bought this device because it also acts as an Mp3 player. (It can transmit the media player and the directions via a built-in FM transmitter) The device does an excellant job at pausing the music to give directions. (I did not use the Fm transmitter for most of the trip though, instead I used the audio out port.) The directions are also clear and easy to understand. The screen is also easy to read. The contents of the screen, as well as the color, are cusomizable. I recently drove from TX to PA with a few stops. I did not have any problems with the directions. Sometimes the device would think that I was on an access road when I was on the highway, but my friend's gps unit of another brand acted the exact same way. If the device loses its gps signal (going through a tunner), the device predicts where you are located... this feature worked well. If you like gadgets and options, this is a great gps. You can download free poi categories, change your car's icon, change the quick menu, and various other options. If you just want to get from point a to point b, this device is easy to use. The software for the device is also easy to use and works perfectly so far. (I am using Vista.)

The downside... when I first used the software to get updates, TomTom disabled some of my features(the Fm transmitter). Within a week, another software update enable the features again.

With all the good reviews, I was ready to love this one. Unfortunately, I have to return it. Outdated maps on refurb unit. Text to speech not very good. Speech recognition is horrible. Hands free phone function is unusable. Phone audio plays only through internal speaker which is very low volume even when turned all the way up. Mic is poor so callers can't hear you either. MP3 audio level very low vs nav prompts so if you listen to music at a normal level you get blasted by the nav voice. FM tx poor. Has line out also but external audio does not work unless you are also listening to mp3s. Very disappointed.

Comments about TomTom TomTom® GO 730 GPS Receiver (Refurbished):

The only drawback is that the maps are old and they will make you spend over $100 to upgrade the maps. The offer a map update service for only $9.95 a quarter...what they DO NOT tell you that you have to have a current map to begin with (not which is sold with the Refurb unit) so you have to purchase a $99 full upgrade of the map and then you are elligible to purchase the quarterly updates. Long story short. The unit is a referb and you have to spend additional money to get the maps up to date. You can also purchase a new unit with no additoinal money with up to date maps from other outlets for around $330.

Comments about TomTom TomTom® GO 730 GPS Receiver (Refurbished):

I have a new TomTom GO 730 for my wife. She liked it so much, I had to get one for my truck because she won't share! I thought refurb was the way to go. While the TomTom webpage describing the GO 730 Refurbished units does state that the Latest Map Guarantee does not apply to the refurb units, the MAP description tab, on the same webpage that seems to be describing the unit being advertised (refurb GO 730) says that the unit is shipped with the latest map available. I don't expect the latest map within 30 days, I can understand that. But when the you plug it in and the unit states the map is more than 4 quarters old and I can purchase a years worth of updates, I don't consider the unit shipped with the latest map available. I, the consumer didn't understand which statement took precedence, or that the latest map is over a year old but they will be happy to sell you 4 quarters worth. Other than that, I think TOMTOM does an outstanding job of integrating, GPS, maps, and navigation. Too bad they nitpick and provide conflicting info, and defer to the policy of "the Company is always right"! They could probably do a little better in customer service or maybe even clear statements and advertising. I would not recommend a refurb unit to a friend because you will spend more on upgrading the maps than what a new unit costs!

Comments about TomTom TomTom® GO 730 GPS Receiver (Refurbished):

This is the first time I purchased a REFURBISHED electronic device. The reviews may be scary; however, this one is great! There is no problem at all. It has been almost for a month and I love it.

Two features I thought were critical for a GPS: Text-to-speech and Lane Assistance. This machine does a great job speaking highways (numbers); however, street names may not be correctly pronounced. No big deal.. Lane Assistance is great. At some intersections, it shows a 3D view of the road with lanes and traffic signs, and the route should be taken..

Also, internet support/update, downloadable widgets are superb. It finds POIs and let you call them via the Bluetooth.. fun!

highly recommend it ...
Regards
S

The GO 730 is a great unit from TOMTOM. TOMTOM has seamlessly integrated GPS, Maps, and Navigation into one simple and easy to use unit. Unfortunately the Refurb units although at a great price, come with outdated maps, which will cost up to the price of a new unit to update. The TOMTOM Home Page states that the Map Guarantee is not honored on Refurb Units AND that the device is delivered with the most up to date maps. Conflict??? I have been using Garmin GPS since the 1990's in SW Asia. I was shopping for a Garmin. I have a Garmin on my boat, and a handheld Magellan on the handlebars of my dirtbike. Comments about TomTom TomTom® GO 730 GPS Receiver (Refurbished):

The TomTom I got works fine, but the maps were 6 quarters old! Not only that, but it would cost $200 to update, which is more than what I paid for it. Fortunately TomTom offers a 30 day free map update, but I am still waiting to hear back from them and I made this purchase on 3/18. Also, most of the cool stuff the 730 is advertised for you have to pay extra for. But it is overall a great product, makes driving a lot easier.

When we failed to follow directions in time it told us exactly how to get back on track.

Bluetooth was very important for me so this is way way better when compare to a garmin nuvi 760. The FM Xmitter was not all that good. MP3 is only good when I use the Aux cable. Battery does not hold charge well. When used in bright sunlight, the screen is a little bit hard to see. I was lucky that this unit didn't break on me. I also bought a refurbished go 720 but I had to return it because it froze after about 15 minutes of usage. You just have to take chance on refurbished items.

Comments about TomTom TomTom® GO 730 GPS Receiver (Refurbished):

Hard to believe this is a refurbished unit. No defects found what so ever. Pin point my destinations every time and found an address that my son's GARMIN could not. Updated my maps with no hassle. Added music and enabled the blue tooth with no problem. Did not give 5 stars because unit does not come with AC charger. When someone says refurbished it only means the bugs have been worked out. Same unit sold for 154.00 more this weekend at Best Buy.

Comments about TomTom TomTom® GO 730 GPS Receiver (Refurbished):

I've tried Nuvi 255, mio 500 and Plevio. The features and ease of use on the TomTom blows the competition out of the water. I'm in outside sales and use the unit 3-4 times daily. The unit is accurate, easy to use, and packed with features that save me time AND money. I can set it to warn me when a route has a toll on it. THEN I can decide if I want to take that route or not. It then compares the new route and the toll route's time and mileage, so I can see if it's worth it to take it. Refurbed from RS came in mint condition.

Comments about TomTom TomTom® GO 730 GPS Receiver (Refurbished):

I was a little concerned about the gps being a refurbished one but the price of [$] at Radio Shack was too hard to reject. Don't worry about it being refurbished. You can't tell the difference between it and a new one. Worked very well right out of the box. I connected it to TomTom Home and it updated the application program and the maps all for not added cost. If you are worried about a refurb unit...don't be.

Very decent GPS!

Pros:
Durable, Good Value, High Quality
Bottom Line:

Comments about TomTom TomTom® GO 730 GPS Receiver (Refurbished):

I have had the gps for only two days... I rate it 4 stars, since the maps were outdated, and had to download a new firmware...through TomTom Home software (I really like some downloadable material, like voices, icons, map corrections made by TomTom users etc.). When doing so, my GPS collapsed, but after a short talk with TomTom customer service, all the issues were solved quite easily (BTW, their customer support is really excellent. It took 1 minute to get an operator on the line!). Right now GPS works flawlessly. I used it while driving to Philly Airport, and had no issues, plus I got very good directions on it. Bluetooth is working great with my SonyEricsoon. People could hear me as well as I did hear them clearly. There are tons of options to customize, yet the GPS is easy to operate out of box. Reception is very good- locked right away! Mount is tiny, but so far so good- I think you have to moisten it a little to stick it to the windshield. I bought it refurbished, but it came in awesome condition! One could never tell. Overall, for the money, there is no better GPS right now!!!
