Comments about RadioShack UHF/VHF/FM Indoor Antenna With 12-Position Fine-Tuning:

I live in an apartment building and have had trouble getting good reception for all of the local broadcast channels. I tried three antennas from RadioShack and this one worked the best, though I did have to spend a lot of time adjusting things.

I live in Beaverton, OR and for [$] I love it. I have it resting on the TV bracket behinde my tv on the wall. I thought I might get interferance from the tv mount, but not so. When I checked my tv signal in was 70% to 85% out of the box. I opend-up the antenna and got 95% then by changing the dial I got 100%. I read a lot of stuff/reviews on line before going to the store. The guy at the store was cool he said give this one a try, he said it works good from his personal experance. For [$]. it is a good antenna and if it does not work for you the come back and go with the [$]. one. I should call him back and let him know it worked grate for me and I like the [$] price.

Comments about RadioShack UHF/VHF/FM Indoor Antenna With 12-Position Fine-Tuning:

Moved to a new place and no longer have cable. I went to Radioshack on Sunday to buy this so I could watch the football games. Thus far it has worked great. I thought I might have to put it by the window but right now I have it sitting on the TV stand behind the TV. It is picking up 22 crisp digital stations. Football looked great. I would argue it looked even better than the HD channel with Time Warner for FOX and CBS. Using this on a new 37" 720P HD TV from Sony.

Cons:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about RadioShack UHF/VHF/FM Indoor Antenna With 12-Position Fine-Tuning:

We live in San Bruno and have used this for several years. Our reception is from Broadcast and has always been very good. This was a good antenna up until everything went digital. Now it works sporadically and takes constant adjustments. Some days I get all the channels, other days few. We no longer can get Fox (channel 2) There is frequent digital breakup and weather seems to affect how well it receives. I would not recommend this with digital reception.

Comments about RadioShack UHF/VHF/FM Indoor Antenna With 12-Position Fine-Tuning:

I have the product sitting on top of my dtv converter boxes. They're on top of the tv set. It gets 22 to 24 channels. Only the highly directional antennas can do better, but the channels they add are religious channels I don't care to watch, so I'm not buying the directional ones. This one gets some religious channels, too. It clears up channels that are breaking up by turning the fine tuning knob. I tried some amplified antennas to get more channels, but it didn't work. This one was actually better for clean pictures and lots of channels. It's also very attractive. I've put it on three friends' tvs. We live in the middle of Seattle.

Comments about RadioShack UHF/VHF/FM Indoor Antenna With 12-Position Fine-Tuning:

I live about 27 miles NW of Chicago, so I wasn't sure if this antenna would work as I think I am on the edge of the yellow zone. Connected antenna and did a scan and got about 9 HD channels. Looked at each channel and adjusted the antenna so that I could receive each channel perfectly. Rescaned and got 21 HD channels. I still cannot receive 2, but they are supposed to change antenna power tomorrow, and the difference in the direction of 7 and 26 means that I can get one or the other, but not both, but 7 is supposed to move their antenna's tomorrow, so I should get it since that is the is the location for most of the antenna's in Chicago. Oh, and I am on the second floor of a condo.

Very good antenna for the price. Quite happy with it.

Comments about RadioShack UHF/VHF/FM Indoor Antenna With 12-Position Fine-Tuning:

It's probably the best antenna out there for under $20 and a solid, basic antenna for those who don't need amplification and whatnot. It can pick up both the analog (4, 5, 7, 9) and digital (48, 36, 39, 34) signals of Washington's "Big Four". I live ~25 miles (as the crow flies) from these stations' towers. It won't perform miracles, however. Those living ~30-40 miles from a tower or in mountainous areas will definitely need a better antenna.

I can't seem to figure out the point of the knob. It seems to make a tiny difference on analog signals in terms of picture quality, but exactly what point it has is a mystery.

I bought this device to drive my Sharp Aquos HDTV. This was in Dec 2007. I receive all my favorite stations and all the additional PBS channels quite well. Only on the rarest occasions do I get weak signal warnings on-screen. These are solved by a simple re-tune of the antenna.

I must admit though that I am on Radio Shack's site in order to find an upgrade and or signal booster to enhance my weaker channels (22.1, 32.1), which are not up to par, and cannot be helped with this antenna (cf. Cons above)

Comments about RadioShack UHF/VHF/FM Indoor Antenna With 12-Position Fine-Tuning:

This antenna is for people living 10-15 miles from the broadcast antenna. If you're further out, don't bother -- it's un-amplified and won't pick anything up. But if you are indeed close, this will get the job done. I was pleased to see this is UN-amplified, which is exactly what I needed. The tuning knob gives it a bit more adjustability compared to the very simple $10 budget antennas.

Comments about RadioShack UHF/VHF/FM Indoor Antenna With 12-Position Fine-Tuning:

With the rain and the wind came the spotty signal quality. I think that this antenna performs as well as any I have tried but frankly all of them have a lot to be desired. I live within 10 miles of the farthest station that I would like to receive and just cant seem to get a signal when there is any kind of less than perfect weather. I returned this antenna mainly because of its ultra modern design and due to the fact that it only performed marginally better than the others unless the winds were still and the skies crystal clear. I might as well just stick with the $6 antenna from the discount store. I am still looking for a solution to my reception problems, an outside antenna may be my only answer. Hopefully the stations will up then signal strength a little when they all go to full digital in June. I will probably wait until then before I spend too much time, effort or money trying to get this right.

Comments about RadioShack UHF/VHF/FM Indoor Antenna With 12-Position Fine-Tuning:

This antenna is the best one that I have tried out of three. I will be sticking with this one and canceling my cable service today! I like it's solid feel and weight. Combined with an RCA digital converter box I am pulling in all available digital channels in the Toledo area without having to fine tune between them. The remaining analog channels do take some adjustments to get clearly, however I am only interested in the digital ones, they look as well as they did with cable! My only negative remark is that in my "vintage" style living room the antenna sticks out like a sore thumb. It does what I need it to do so I am not bothered by it's appearance but I am not sure that my wife will share my opinion.

Comments about RadioShack UHF/VHF/FM Indoor Antenna With 12-Position Fine-Tuning:

My RS dealer suggested this unit. This model is being used in a "yellow" antenna zone about 17-22 miles from broadcast source. I am in a fairly open area with only some tall trees about 50 yards away. Extension of rabbit ears not required. No preferred orientation of unit is required; fine tuning feature default setting out of box was just fine. Beautiful reception (better than cable) via my Channel Master CM-7000 converter on all primary and sub-channels. Very satisfied.

It works good for stations that have strong signals, but does not pick up weak signals well, stations that are over 25 miles away. Even with the fine-tuning switch, I still had problems receiving the weak signal, mainly channel 4-1 to 4-3(PBS) which is in Chapel-Hill, about 25 miles away.

Comments about RadioShack UHF/VHF/FM Indoor Antenna With 12-Position Fine-Tuning:

I have made no effort to place my antenna in a good spot or make any adjustments. It is simply sitting next to my TV (built in HD tuner). I live on the top floor of a condo building, perhaps if i lived on the bottom floor it might not work so well. I get the 4 major networks with their sub channels, plus PBS and CW. Combine that with the various video websites and netflix (or blockbuster) and I feel like I have plenty to watch. Aside from broadband, I don't see myself ever paying for cable again. I have been doing this for over a year now.

Definitely give this one a try, if it does not work for you, return it.

Like with most things, you get what you pay for when buying antennas. For [$] you shouldn't expect wonders with this antenna. But I was pleased enough with my initial purchase of one, for my den/office, that I bought another for my living room. This second purchase turned out to be a mistake. I had difficulties holding a couple of VHF stations; I found myself always contorting the rabbit ears. And so I replaced it with an amplified indoor/outdoor antenna, not purchased at Radio Shack, with pleasing results. Yet I did not return the unused second unit. I look to use it in my master bedroom at some later point.Bottom line: good price/value performer but there are certainly better antennas on the market.

Bought two of these to connect to our small analog TV's (not on satellite) and their converter boxes - in bedroom and office.

Can't beat the price. The telescoping antenna's seem sturdier than past RS indoor antennas we've purchased and the style is nice.

Only negative: Certain times of the day (usually evening) with some channels, we have to re-adjust the antenna's to find good reception. But overall, the reception is much, much better since installing these and the converter boxes.

Comments about RadioShack UHF/VHF/FM Indoor Antenna With 12-Position Fine-Tuning:

This is the perfect accessory to go with my zenith converter box, it has a stable base, is easy to adjust for best reception because of the space between the UHF triangle and the VHF adjustable height antennas.
I have another recently purchased "combo" antenna that is very wobbly and the loop is almost impossible to move without messing with the telescoping antennas, and is not as attractive. It comes with a six foot cable and this was too long for my box. so that may be seen as a plus for your set-up, consider buying another cable length to best fit your needs.

I had been using an amplified antenna with my analog tv connected to a dvd recorder with its own internal digital tuner (so I wouldn't need a converter box). I got a lot of channels and the picture was good, but I snapped off one of the rabbit ears! After reading one reviewer's comments (she had a 30-yr old console tv) I purchased this antenna. Though I didn't get more channels, my analog channels are showing clearer with this new antenna so I can still watch and record on my vcr. It's shape also allows the front to be used as a base. Overall, I'm pleased. However, I'm going to shop around for something more powerful for the livingroom. Digital reception seems better in my bedroom, which is smaller.

living slightly NW of several DC stations(~17 miles mostly) and slightly SW of many Baltimore stations(~28 miles). I previously had the 1874 hooked up to my 26" Toshiba502U in a bedroom where the Windows are OPPOSITE the direction of the towers. IT pulled in very strong signals for all the major DC news stations, but it was hard to adjust it to pick up good signals for PBS-26 and PBS 62 and it took a lot of messeing around to get just 2 major Bmore stations with decent signals. this 1868 all i had to do was point it South, Adjust the knob, extend the poles, and Boom-almost every single station in both markets comes in with a Decent(50ish plus) signal-without sacrificing the good signals attained with the 1874. I'd say its a keeper.

I have a 30-year-old RCA console TV with seperate and different type connectors for VHF and UHF. It does'nt get any more complicated than that in today's digital world. This antenna does not require a splitter for the connections and it works great with the digital converter box. Every channel comes in loud and clear. I did not have to fine tune, just hooked it up. In addition, I live in an area with several signal towers that often interfere with reception. I have not seen that problem with this antenna. But, here is an IMPORTANT TIP: If you are not getting reception when you first hook up your antenna, PRESS THE INPUT BUTTON ON YOUR REMOTE Control. It will instantly activate reception.

Comments about RadioShack UHF/VHF/FM Indoor Antenna With 12-Position Fine-Tuning:

For the people who say this antenna does not work for Digital TV, you need to be aware of how DTV currently works, as well as how this antenna works.

Most people look at this antenna and see the two black rods, and they think "ok, that's the antenna", and they assume that the rest is either just circuitry or cosmetic only. It's not! That big triangular part with the circle in the middle is also an antenna! You see, all "rabbit ear" style antennas are made up of two different parts: a VHF antenna, and a UHF antenna.

The VHF antenna are the two movable rods that most people are familiar with. These rods pick up channels 2 through 13.

The UHF antenna is the circle, inside the large triangular piece. This circle picks up channels 14 through 69. On some sets, instead of a circle, the UHF antenna may be rectangular, oval or even "bowtie" shaped.

Now a brief explanation on how DTV works is required. Because we are currently mid-transition in the world of digital TV, most TV stations are broadcasting both an analog and a digital signal simultaneously. HOWEVER, they cannot broadcast both signals on the same channel, because they would interfere with each other. Thus, a compromise had to be made.

Let's use KGAN Channel 2 (a local channel where I live) as an example. Currently, their analog signal is being broadcast on channel 2, as would be expected. However, their digital signal, although still called "channel 2", is ACTUALLY being broadcast on channel 51. Now, channel 2 is VHF, and channel 51 is UHF. Most TV stations are currently broadcasting in this manner; analog on VHF, digital on UHF. You see where I'm going with this?

Now, if "analog channel 2" is not coming in properly, then it would be proper and correct to adjust the VHF portion of the antenna, the rods. Unfortunately, since most people aren't aware that the circular part also functions as an antenna, they ignore it when trying to pick up "digital channel 2", and focus only on the rods. Since "digital channel 2" is a UHF channel, adjusting the VHF rods will do NOTHING whatsoever to improve the signal. You need to adjust the UHF antenna, which requires physically rotating and moving the entire antenna, not just the rods.

I know this summary is going to seem excessively short in comparison to the long explanation I just gave, but it needed to be mentioned, with the hopes to educate. If you have trouble picking up digital TV with this antenna, don't just move the rods, try moving the ENTIRE antenna. Keep these facts in mind, and this antenna should serve you well for digital TV, as it is serving me well.

Comments about RadioShack UHF/VHF/FM Indoor Antenna With 12-Position Fine-Tuning:

Remember the good old days, when salesmen tried to sell you good products, even if they cost a little more?

For some reason, the cable doesn't work upstairs in my townhome, so instead of having comcast come out and try to charge me to fix what they already said they had done, I decided to get an antenna. The guy at RS told me I would need a converter too, but that I didn't need to spend the $50 I was ready to spend on an antenna. This one would work just fine, he said.

Well, guess what -- I hooked up the antenna and was elated with it. Except for the fact that the fine tuning knob needs to move easier for a lightweight item -- if I reach up with one hand to adjust it, I practically knock the antenna off the TV. But I digress.

When I got my converter box and went for the digital signal, all of a sudden I keep getting no signal from my local NBC and CBS (and often ABC) affiliates. They were fine on analog, and they're spotty on digital with this antenna. And I'm less than 20 miles from the city of Chicago -- only 30 from the loop! (not to mention the fact that my second story window, which the tv is in front of, faces north toward Chicago). I am really disappointed with the digital side of things.

Comments about RadioShack UHF/VHF/FM Indoor Antenna With 12-Position Fine-Tuning:

I've owned this antenna for a while. With analog signal it works pretty good for the price, picture would come in fuzzy though. I got a digital converter box, and all the channels are fantastic and crystal clear. The antenna is not truly a VHF receiver though, so you will most likely not get signals from smaller stations (in L.A., this means no KHIZ, KFLA, and etc.). But if you don't care about the smaller stations, then this is a fantastic antenna.

I recently went to over-the-air TV after deciding satellite was too expensive. I shuffled through a variety of different indoor antennas, [...]This model was the best of the lot. It's inexpensive and it's design seems to handle the UHF signals of digital TV better than the other models. It got all my local channels with greater strength than more expensive amplified models and was very easy to set up.This unit may not work for everyone but it has been a smashing success in my airport-infested suburb, and for less cost than I would have thought. Highly recommended.

I have an HD tv....I just cancelled my DirecTV service, because waisting money and no watching more than regular channels.I bought this antenna, but I had to move it and changed position every time was windy outside, because reception was horrible. A couple channels did work well without moving it, but Most all of the time I did workout getting up moving antenna and sat again. I won't recommend it. I will get better one doesn't matter if it is more expensive but most important whatever you spend you have to be satisfy with your purchase.

The old antenna on top of the house just wasn't cutting it when it came to converting my old tv to digital. So I went out and bought two of these and they work fantastic! Comments about RadioShack UHF/VHF/FM Indoor Antenna With 12-Position Fine-Tuning:

Most HD televisions are interchangeable, and the same goes with the antenna gear you plug into your set. If you are still an over-the-air signal type and your TV has a built in ATSC tuner, the big variable is where you live and the signal levels and towers to send the DTV broadcast to your bunny ears. The [$] Radioshack antenna, as ugly as most antennas go, works flawlessly in the Sunset/Western edge of San Francisco city and county. Buy this antenna instead of any expensive amplified antenna thingee (yes, it's a thingee) and enjoy every local station in HD. Rock on.

Comments about RadioShack UHF/VHF/FM Indoor Antenna With 12-Position Fine-Tuning:

When I bought this antenna a few months back, it pulled in every local channel here in Erie, PA. However, after I bought the DTV box, it only pulled in three of the locals. The digital signals of WSEE (CBS), WBEP (The CW), and WICU (NBC) don't come in at all. I recommend looking elsewhere if you want all of your local channels in digital.

Only problem is you can't change the UHF antenna angle -- sometimes stations come in better if I tilt the whole thing and then I have to prop it with some folded cardboard. If I'd known I would have bought one that could. Other than that, works great. I bought an expensive amplified antenna that didn't work any better, so I kept this.

It got pretty good reception most of the time, but I had to adjut it a lot for different channels, and the channel numbers changed after a few weeks, for example FOX 50 was on channel 106, and CW 22 was on channel 73. I was able to pick up signal on some channels in cities like greensboro on a clear day. It is great for sports games, and suitable for my bedroom.

I live in San Jose, CA. and I was sick an tired of paying too much money for cable TV. I purchased a new 1080i HD Plasma TV with a built-in digital tuner. I went by my local Radio Shack and picked up this antenna.
I get great reception of the digital channels, and the HD channels come in crystal clear. On the downside, like some have said, the analog channels don't come in that great. But, with the transition to all digital in 2009 this should not be a problem for much longer.

At first I went to the local Shack & bought the cheapest rabbit ears I could find. They worked fine & I got local HD channels but not all sub-channels came in. Analog channels didn't come in so great but I didn't care as long as I could get the digital channels. So I decided to pay an extra [$] & exchange the cheap rabbit ears for this puppy & it has made a difference. I can now get the sub-channels I was missing before. The antenna was easy to install & begin using. I recommend it. BTW, as a point of reference, I only live about 3-4 miles from local station antennas.

We didn't like it at first because we didn't realize we had to do a channel scan and switch our tv from cable to regular. After that it worked really well. We get about 6-7 channels. You will have to fiddle with it a little with a channel or two but thats expected. Anyways, we bought this because it was the cheapest one. we can watch our favorite shows tho, and we saved a bundle dumping cable.
I think the design looks a little cheap , but that's a matter of opinion : )

I got this unit for my HDTV based on the fact we only have until 2009 to switch to digital signal. [...]. I bought it for [$] a price of a New DVD. I have had it for 1 month now and I do have to say that being surrounded by trees and a brick wall this baby stays on a station really well. Now and then I have to do over the program scan because I think the HDTV not the unit just loses the signal when off for a couple hours. All in all please get this unit it is WAY better than paying Time Warner for a rental HD Box (I used to have one,It sucks) I couldn't tell the difference in signal quality neither could my neighbor who deals with HDTV's all day. It's A one time payment and you get unlimited access to your local HD Stations (such as FOX,NBC,ABC,CBSx2,PBSx2,CW, Point being TWC makes you pay for something that you get free after purchase of this unit. It does get a little trippy when changing stations but so did TWC's HD Box. It is normal digital noise that anyone will give regardless. I do plan on moving to a APT. closer to all the tv stations in Austin, TX so hopefully that helps. It is a must buy for anyone who wants HD-over-air-cheap!! [$] best value yet. [$] unit will do the same thing.

I am very impressed by it. I do not have a HD TV, so I can only speak to the analogy signals. It gives me clear signals for all local channels. You do need to turn the button for fine tuning, but I found a setting that satisfy all channels. I don't have to fine tune for each channel although you could. This antenna does not require power, and that makes it easier to leave it where there is no power outlet. There is nothing fancy about it, but it gives very good signals. Don't waste your money on the Amplified Indoor Antenna (model 15-1878, [...]). The results I got from it is no better than this one.

I read many reviews regarding HDTV antennas and first tried the Terk without success and then read many good reviews about Radio Shack antennas. I went to the store and spoke with a representative and he suggested this one and had one set up to show me in the store. Being skeptical due to the price, I took a higher priced one to make sure. IMPORTANT! He said the TV must be recent to receive digital signals and you must follow your TV's instructions for programming using the antenna connections. My satellite is hooked up via one of the HDMI connections. Originally, I connected the antenna and then keyed in the stations I wanted to see without any success, and then went to the program options on the TV and now have more stations than I thought could be there! Great HD pictures!

Pros:
Easy to use, Good performance, Good Value, Reliable

Comments about RadioShack UHF/VHF/FM Indoor Antenna With 12-Position Fine-Tuning:

This product is good because it has an amplifier along with the rabit ears. This product is good if you have two antenna's hooked up to a tv and you are up on a hill. I have a 11-inch black and white tv from 1985 and it works good on it. So I wouldn't know how good reception is on color tv or on bigger screens. If you ask me for advise, I would say to buy an outdoor antenna if you live in rural areas or at least 40 miles from the nearest tv station.
