Comments about ION Ion VCR2PC VCR with USB Connection:
Bought this over the weekend. Looking for something to transfer my home movies from VHS to DVD. Works great. Program easy to load & use. Simple insructions. Love the way it creates a digital copy on my computer & then burn it easily to DVD-R. Love the way it creates chapters on DVD. Machine works great. Copied 4 videos already & burned 6 DVD's and still works great.

Comments about ION Ion VCR2PC VCR with USB Connection:
Simple as unpacking the device and powering it on, installing the device driver, rebooting your PC, registering the via internet, starting the application, clicking on record and wallah, you have yourself a digital format of a VHS cassette.
I recommend this device for getting the job done and using a application such as Adobe Premiere or Movie Maker to edit if necessary.

Comments about ION Ion VCR2PC VCR with USB Connection:
Great product for the most part .. does what it is suppose to do. I had no problems with it right out of the box. I did however discover that the software is powered by ArcSoft which installs a program on your computer that loads when you boot up and constantly phones home and has absolutely nothing to do with the use of the product. After making a firewall rule to keep it from phoning home I noticed considerable slowdown of my internet connection. The cause was ArcSoft trying to phone home every 2-10 seconds (no exaggeration). I tried unsuccessfully to contact ArcSoft about this but can't. So when I booted up my computer I had to go into Processes and manually stop the 2 ArcSoft processes. This little phone home program is not listed in Add/Delete software either. I finally discovered where it was and deleted the files. You can find it here:
Program Files\Common Files\ArcSoft\Connection Service\Bin
Just delete the two executables.
I'm only giving it an average rating because of ARC and I would be hesitant about recommending it to a friend for the simple reason that getting in touch with the software and hardware providers is impossible unless you register the product and you can't register it with Arc because it's not listed in their software list. I won't register with ION because they REQUIRE your name, address, city, state, zip and phone number before they will let you register.

Comments about ION Ion VCR2PC VCR with USB Connection:
When I first heard of this product, I searched the web for ratings and pros & cons. I read some bad reports and good reports. I took the plunge and I'm glad that I did. The software loaded with no problems and it is very easy to use with a very small learning curve. I quickly converted some of my old tapes to dvd's. I'm VERY satisfied with this product. I use this with a laptop running Vista. Any user has to remember that the quality of the final results will only be as good as the quality of the tape that you're recording from. You can't expect crystal clear results if you're recording from an old tape that been played a hundred times.

Comments about ION Ion VCR2PC VCR with USB Connection:
Ok, several bad reviews from the get go. Was pessimistic about trying, but surprisingly difficult to find good alternative.
Out of the box, set up was reasonably easy. Make sure you check out hardware and software requirements. Don’t expect this product to improve your old VHS or VHS-C videos to DVD quality. The goal here is save your old videos to DVD. I had one of the first all in one VHS-C camcorders. Tapes go back as far as 1984. Used the old VHS-C converter – inserted into VCR 2PC like an ordinary cassette. Used USB or Firewire without difficulty. After following easy instructions for set-up, Just touch record on the VCR 2PC and Play on your computer and watch you old videos while recording to digital on computer.
Helps to have a Move making software, pleanty around, to create DVD movie, just as you would if transferring from your video camera to you computer to convert to DVD.
Liked the best? – Works as advertised, but make sure you check tech specs before you purchase. I have a 3 yr old Pentium 4, 2 Gb/s Ram and 100 Gb/s hard drive. XP operating system – all up to date.
Disliked? The Data Execution settings will probably need to be adjusted. follow these steps if you encounter a problem. Using Windows XP - Start, Control panel, System, Advanced - Then find Performance and select Settings. Select Data Prevention, then select the Second Option, “Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.” Select add. Now locate the file where ION VCR 2 PC is located and then select add. Should be able to get home from there.
What can I say? This product is working well for me. Still have boxes of old videos to convert and I love watching those old family movies. Making DVD sets to pass along to family members.

Comments about ION Ion VCR2PC VCR with USB Connection:
I never got the VCR2PC to work on either my XP machine or my Vista machine. On the xp, the output audio and video were defective (noise, lines through video, etc). on the Vista machine, the driver from ArcSoft is defective. Stay away from this....mine is being returned tomorrow.
