New attenna that must be purchased since digital change(not mentioned in manual or by store when purchased) reduces its portability. One must pay an EXTRA $12 to $35 for new antenna.

I like to smoke cigars. I also love some spectator sports. When the analog era ended my portable B & W was obsoleted. I am hopeful that as time goes by more stations will better their transmissions and this unit will receive the signals without problems.

Great little TV. I work night security and sit in my car. Was very pleased with the product. The people who say the reception is terrible, must live in the woods or something!!!!!!! I just bought this, and I'm real happy! You can't expect perfect for a little TV. Bottom line, I would recomend this to anyone!!

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I believe Radio Shack was one of the first to ge their product in front of the public and for that I applaud you, however, several others have brought basically the same type of product to the counter and they are as much as 50% less in cost and I have now had the opportunity to test them and the Radio Shack product while doing the job just fine does not seem to be any better than the less expensive models. Great merchandising, but could hurt Radio Shack Portable 7" TV in the long run.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I wanted a new handheld to replace the old analog TV I had. I use mainly during hurricane season. Would have preferred to have one that used regular batteries but that isn't a major problem. It can always be charged in the car with an additional adapter. I felt the price was a little high compared to what some of the other's cost. However, since I couldn't locate anyone that had or could keep in stock at a lower price I decided to get this one instead of waiting.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
The Accurian 7" portable TV is a very nice item to have during inclement weather and for desktop viewers. The resolution is so defined and the view size is so grand to be a portable. I highly recommend this portable to all! Enjoy!
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
This TV has a beautiful picture. The sound is great. My friends have brought this TV after looking at the quality of my picture.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
Terrible reception,[...] tried to keep it to see if change to digital made an improvement in reception. It did not. Now the store suggests a 60.00 improved antenna, giving me a potential [$] PAPERWEIGHT! Very displeased with television. Worthless!
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
Nice small package but needs a good outdoor antenna to work properly. Sensitivity is very poor compared to a USB DTV receiver for a computer that was compared side by side.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
This TV gets a good clear picture on it when you are in a certain place, and I don't need a portable TV when I'm home. In the car or at work, all it says is "no signal" with a blue screen most or all of the time.....even with the external antenna, still gets very little reception. Was hoping the digital switch would improve but no such luck, and I'm only 15 mins from a tower in a large town. Very disappointing.....
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
9 VDC is an odd voltage and I have NOT been able to find an extended life battery for this TV. I live in a huricane zone Near Galveston, TX) and bought this unit for sevice during power outages. 100 minutes does NOT suffice. We were without power for 61 hours during Huricane IKE last year.
I would recommend this unit to others IF I can get a longer-life battery.

A Good Tv
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
The 100 minute battery reserve is not long enough for normal usage. I want to be able to use it for a lot longer time then that.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I bought this to use in a power outage (live in Florida), but with only "up to 100 minutes" on the battery (per the instructions) -- what good is it? BTW, the Radio Shack person failed to provide that tidbit!

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
The power goes out here more often than you'd expect from underground utilities, and cable service often goes out during bad weather even when the power stays on. I need an ATSC TV that gets over-the-air digital stations during outages of regular cable TV. After reading a lot of these reviews, I bought the Accurian with great expectation, thinking it's got to work at my house since I'm in a suburb of Washington, DC. Boy was I wrong. Nada. No matter which of the two included antennas I used, all the set ever showed was the blue screen displaying "No signal." I even thought perhaps the set was defective, and hooked it to the Comcast cable to test it. It worked fine, pulled in scores of channels, all crystal clear. But that's not what I need it for. It has to work when there's no power or no cable. Apparently the Accurian can't pull in digital stations off the air (without resorting to using a powered antenna) so it's going back tomorrow.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
Great in a storm when power is out but only lasts until the built in battery dies, then you cant recharge if power is still out! Too bad it wont operate on regular batteries like other emergency gear.

The telescoping antenna can only be rotated 180 degrees needs to be able to be lifted up to rotate full 360.
No handle for carrying ease.
DTV transition - Once channels are scanned use your remote to train the unit to stop on all channels using the manual face buttons.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I like it very much, got it for my kitchen mostly for mornings to watch while I have my tea and start my day. It has great color, sound, enough programs for a small tv . I don't have any coments that aren't good about it . Good investment for me .
Thank You
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
The unit is used for daily "Soap" however, images are frequently distorted on DTV. It appears that one has to purchase an excellent indoor/outdoor antenna in order to really enjoy this well made portable TV. Remote unable to turn off the set. Manual is poorly written. No help whatsoever in operating the unit.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
short battery life. poor or no reception. harsh audio. instructions not
helpful. needs a monstrous antenna to function at all. picks up next to none signals.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
Bought this for emergency use and failed after using a dozen times over 18 months. was on vacation and bad weather was moving in - tuner would drop out after 5 minutes - took to local Radio Shack - verified failure and stated nothing they could do. very disapointed with the quality of Radio shack products. I dont minding paying more for something but expect it to last longer than 18 months! Boo on RADIO SHACK AND THEM NOT STANDING BEHINF THEIR PRODUCT.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
Well I haven't been able to get nothing to work out of this TV so far. I bought it 2 days before the Digital Transition day. At 12:15pm, I did the auto scan to search for channels and got a big NO SIGNAL after it surfed through all the channels and found none. I moved my antenna closer to the window and still got no results. I may need a stronger antenna than the ones that are supplied with the TV. I can't wait to see just what this TV can do but from reading other people's reviews it sounds like the picture quality is great!
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
This would be perfect if it worked inside. After my battery was charged i went out side to find signal and there it was. But it only worked outside...

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
My biggest gripe is the battery life, which is under 2hrs. Another negative is that there are no spare batteries to be had. I would have liked a included carry case and ear buds.
The great things about this TV are the reception, picture quality, sound and design.
I use the included magnetic cable antenna[external] and the reception is far better than the internal one!!
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I love it! I connect my own antenna to it and get incredable pics even in bad reception areas.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
This little lcd saved my bacon on a weekend shoot when my camera-crane monitor went down. We were looking for a local solution when we happened upon this little gem on Radio Shack's website. We took a small chance and sent one of our guys over to grab it. What the heck - it cost so little, we figured it was worth the cost of losing one crane shot.
All I cared about at the time was getting something like a good viewfinder so my boom operator could see what the camera was looking at. I didn't give a darn at the time what the on-air broadcast reception was like. That said, I'll offer this:
1.) It has a tripod adapter that fit the monitor mount on our camera jib like a glove.
2.) The picture clarity from the camera feed was so crystal, in bright Florida daylight with no hood, it had us shaking our heads at what we used to spend for a decent monitor. Stellar - a vast improvement over the previous monitor, which cost 300% more. No hood, and the resulting shots were still perfect.
3.) After a short 6-hour charge, this little animal worked a 14-hour day with no sign of tiring (picture degradation, "blinks," etc.).
From the standpoint of someone who makes TV in addition to watching it, this little monitor has earned some serious respect.
It's since performed flawlessly through two other outdoor shoots. For the price, it's a little gold mine. Paid for itself in its first half-hour of life.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I use it at work. The picture and sound is awsome, if I could get a steady signal. Unable to get a good reception eventhough the extended antenna is near a window. Only one channel comes in that is channel 24. All other chnnels no signal even when I scan the product only a few channels come in and then no signal. When the weather is cloudy and rainy the TV HAS VERY VERY VERY POOR RECEPTION - NO SINGAL.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
This is just what I needed to check the reception of our TV signal in different parts of our viewing area. It is small enough that I can use it in my vehicle and even take it out ane check the signal in buildings.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I use this in my office at my desk and it works great. Only draw back I have is battery only lasts about 2 hours, will only charge while plugged in and off, and will not charge with car apdater. Last year during the hurricane we were out of power for 11 days. It would be hard to charge this up, so I guess I just have to sit in the car to watch it.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I bought this as a backup to watch when my cable goes down. I have an old portable and I wanted something that worked well so that I could be absolutely sure the problem wasn't my old tv.
This is easy to use, even without looking at the manual.
Sore points: the remote doesn't have basic controls like power and volume. The whip antenna is probably only good if you are 10 miles from the transmitter. It is a little on the pricey side.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
Crisp, clear digital reception. Set was purchased to replace a small b/w desktop battery-powered analog TV, mainly for use in case of power failure. But it has a tendency to migrate to kitchen table, countertop and all about the house. An absolutely great little portable.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I use a rooftop antenna for my home televisions. When I ran the channel scan this little tv picked up more channels than my other tv's. I live in a rural area miles from the nearest tv station. I couldn't pick up any stations with the little antenna included however.I was able to pick up some channels with the antenna on top of my travel trailer. It's just what I was looking for.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
Wanted a battery-powered HDTV for use during power outages, but set is so insensitive that a powered antenna is needed. so use as intended is impossible!
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
The TV looks great and has a nice design, but I could only get analog signals with the telescopic antenna. With the external antenna, I was only able to get get 1-2 digital signals. Although I do live about 20 miles from most of the TV stations, having a portable TV that does not effectively receive digital signals defeats the purpose of using the telescopic antenna. You can probably guess that I returned the TV for a full refund.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I have a old anolog portable casio tv I bought at Radio Shack and was able to watch all the local stations on it at work. The change to the new system has taken that away, was hoping this new tv would be as good, but the reseption is realy poor. The new TV needs a stronger antena.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
The tv works good if you have access to a strong signal. However, that is not the usual case. It would be great if the tuner was more sensitive, and the built-in antenna provided a stronger signal. The provided external antenna helped, however, using an external antenna reduces the usefulness of a PORTABLE product. The channel selection would be better if a keypad was included on the unit and not as a remote. After all, this is supposed to be a portable product which should be self-contained.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I was hesitant to buy this unit because the reviews I'd read reported poor reception quality. Thought I'd give it a shot anyway and am really pleased that I did. The big surprise was that it came with an extra antenna with a long cord which, when used, makes a huge difference! The picture becomes crystal clear and the sound quality is very adequate for such a small television. My only complaint is that the remote control does not have volume control or on/off capability???
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I use mine to listen to the local news & then the Today show - while at work.
I use earplugs and no one is bothered with any sound.
I LOVE this product! One of the BEST Christmas presents I ever received!
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
A T.V. with a tripod socket ?!?!?!?!? What a GREAT IDEA !!!!! I read user complaints about the pop-out stand breaking, but a trip to a camera shop to pick up a small table-top tripod makes this product a very versitile device. The tripod socket should be included in the list of features. You should have seen the expressions of SURPRISE on the faces of the camera shop owners when they saw a T.V. sitting on top of a tripod intended for a camera !!!!!
So far as the complaints about poor reception, I used a small, cheap, external non-powered rod antenna and picked up all DTV stations in my area. Auto scan worked GREAT!!!
As a monitor for various video sources in a small project studio, it's PERFECT !!!!! I can't wait to show it off to family and friends!!!!! So I most definately would reccommend it!!!
Ease of set-up and operation, Excellent!!!
It's capabilities far exceed my needs!!!!!!!
KUDOS to Radio Shack for offering such a POWERFUL little package at such a LOW price!!!!!!!!!!!

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
This TV works great for me in my area:
Reception:
I can get most channels using the external antenna included, the reception can be improved if compare with my old Casio NTSC portable TV EV-510B, however the tuner works similarly to my Samsung TV T220HD 22" LCD HDTV , which needs an amplified external antenna Phillips SDV2750/27 to tune all channels, if I use this antenna attached to the Accurian TV the reception it's perfect.
Batteries:
The batteries doesn't have a slot to insert or replace the cartridge, in case of replacement needed you must remove the screws and open the whole case, if Accurian could include the option to use "AA" could be great for future releases, the charge last around 100 minutes as specified.
Remote:
Doesn't have a on/off button neither an audio volume control, but if consider the screen size it's not a complain, cause you are not far away from the TV when you are using it
Screen:
Good for the size and price as expected.

Within a few weeks the stand broke, even though the product had never been mishandled. Following the instructions in the user's guide, I went to www.axiontv.com. I filled out the Online Support Form. Despite the rhetoric on the Web site that "the entire team is dedicated to providing the best service to maintain a pleasant relationship with every client", I filled out that form several weeks ago and never received a response to my inquiry! The registrant of axiontv.com is America Action, Inc.

I live 25 miles from Chicago. I could only receive two stations after being told ''Oh it'll work fine." When I returned it another saleperson said "Yeah they don't work very well." Then why sell them!?

I'm in Oklahoma and when the testy spring storms come rolling in I will be able to keep track of them with the weather warnings from my local tv stations.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
If reception is good, this is a nice portable TV. I keep it in the same place, which has visual line-of-sight to several TV towers on a mountaintop a few miles away. Some days reception is flawless. Other days, the picture breaks up for a few seconds every minute or so.

Bought this after major ice storm and anticipating digital crossover. Have old analog model with D batteries which worked great, wanted a digital replacement. Reception varies on location in house, as expected. Hooked up to cable as an option, great picture. Small screen, but also was expected considering 7 in. Remote doesn't seem to control power, on/off, only complaint. Also, needs carry case. Haven't tested battery life yet.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I wanted a small form-factor TV to replace an existing analog TV. This one looked great in store. At home reception was awful (I live in Boston - near the TV towers). Could only receive a small subset of stations some of the time. After I added an external antenna ([$] at Radio Shack) the reception is very good.. downside is that this limits the portability (not that important to me but might be to others).

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I got this TV as a valentine present from my husband. The reception is very poor and the extended antenna was poorly made and awkward to attach. The cost of this product and the poor service that I am receiving the company should be ashame. I am unable to here and or see my shows due to the satelite signal. I am very dissatisfied with this product. This product is a total ripe off to the CONSUMER. The product should have been tested for government buildings made of concrete and poor receiption

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
This is a nice little TV. Gets all of the digital channels and has a nice picture. This product is not good if you are not close to the city though. My only recommendation is to get a seperate antenna for better reception. RadioShack has a cheap one for like [$] and there is a plug in for it on the TV. The body of the TV gets in the way of the attached antenna when trying to adjust it. I'm very happy with it but like I said, you better be fairly close to the transmitter. I use this to watch the news in my car at lunch time when at work. I work close to the city. My home is about 10 miles further from the city and I get almost no reception at home.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
This little t.v. has a beautifully clear picture and I can also get stations I couldn't get before. It's a good addition to my other t.v.'s that are hooked up to cable.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I use this in my bathroom while getting ready for the day. Love it. EXCEPT the remote, which is useless except for changing channels. You have to power on the tv on the actual tv, not the remote. The volume control is on the side of the unit, not on the remote.
I had to hook up the external antenna to get good reception, but I live in a rural area. It worked fine once I did that.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
By nature digital reception is either there or not there ... no in-between. The picture is great when it comes in but is very much affected by environment ... especially buildings. I am in the Chicago area and there are a couple major network channels (CBS and FOX) that I could not pickup ... even with a roof top antenna hookup. Just pray you don't have to watch football games on those channels. Other than reception, design was nice. 7" screen was easily viewable. Remote offered convenient operation.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
Needing one for the kitchen, and being told that I don't need one of those digital-to-analog converter boxes, I decided to give it a try. Wrong move, waste of time. Even tried to use an amplified antenna inside and it didn't work. Went outside the house and pointed the antenna in all directions, no reception at all. DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
We purchased this TV for a small kitchen countertop and have enjoyed it from day 1. The reception is fairly good with its own antenna, probably because we live in the direct line-of-sight of the regional TV towers; reception, of course, is better when plugged into our cable wall outlet.
While the speakers are small, the sound qualities are acceptable.
Importantly, this TV can operate on its own internal battery! This was a major consideration for us, as our area was without power for 48 hours last winter and we never want to experience another TV blackout without emergency news input. We've taken this TV over to friends' homes without the power cord - they were amazed that it's super small yet can operate on its own batteries. Need to move it to another room - just put it in the palm of your hand!
In sum, we highly recommended this fun TV for its small footprint, portability, and ability to operate during an emergency power outage, either on its own batteries or plugged into the car with the included adapter.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
Before I bought this TV I was concerned about reception. A number of reviews complained about poor reception. I have been able to pick up all over air analog and digital stations that I get on my other sets. The closest stations are at least 20-30 miles of my house. I am also getting 130 to 140 minutes out of battery life. Some reviews were saying 90 to 100 minutes? I upgraded from a 2.7 inch portable so the picture and sound are fantastic compared to that. I am very happy with the TV.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
We bought this tv as a Valentines day gift for my Dad he was upset at loosing his portable tv with the loss of analog and we Bought this tv to replace that but had to return it the next day the external antenna did not get a steady signal only got 1 or 2 stations local 12 NJ News and we had to move all around the house to get any others and lost the ones we previously had, they also were so grainy and no sound, and if you moved at all you would loose any signal you were lucky enough to get. Live 50 miles out of New York City between NY and Philly and get no signal!!! When we brought it back the snotty sales man said it doesn't work in this area without an outdoor antenna. I said I had specifically asked that exact question the day before when I bought it and got a totally different response but that salesman was nice, didn't know the product but nice. This does not work with out adding a roof top antenna or cable and who needs this tiny tv for cable, it is ridiculous for a hand held mobile television to have to be attached to a large immoble antenna or cable, kind of defeats the purpose of being moble.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
This TV works well with no problems. I was suprised to find that the external antenna also made my other home TV's pick up channels that all my other antennas did not see, even the high dollar DTV antenna did not work as good as this antenna and I have spent much time trying to get other antennas to give a solid signal like this one does. I am happy.

I went to two RadioShack stores and this product did not work in either location. We could not even get one channel to work! We even tried attaching external antennas. It still didn't work.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I was looking for a hand-held portable digital TV to replace the soon-to-be-obsolete analog portable I have. I decided to give the Accurian a chance. Bad move. I live in between Washington and Baltimore where there are numerous TV channels broadcasting in digital and HD. The Accurian wouldn't pick up *any* digital channels and did a really poor job at receiving analog signals, even with an external antenna. To me it's a useless piece of junk.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
The TV was unable to pick up digital stations until I connected the external antenna that's included. After having it do an auto-scan, it picked up every station within my local (metropolitan) viewing area. The picture and sound quality far exceed an old 5" analog TV it replaced. The quality of the picture with this TV depends mostly on the quality of the reception. The better the antenna, the better the reception.

I WAS APREHENSIVE ABOUT THIS PURCHASE BASED ON THE REVIEWS I READ. LIVING IN THE LA VENTURA AREA GET LOTS OF CLEAR CHANNELS W/ FULL DISPLAY ON THOSE THAT BROADCAST IN HD. THE ADDITIONAL DIGITAL ANTENA IS THE ONLY WAY TO USE THIS TV. THE ATTATCHED ANTENA IS USELESS W/ NO RECEPTION. BEING A WORKING HOMELESS PERSON LIVING IN MY CAR, THIS IS AN IDEAL PORTABLE TV

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
Really liked the size, and wish it would have worked for us. We live in an exurb of a big city and currently have a small no-name analog TV with only internal antenna. Its reception is fantastic.
We were trying to upgrade to digital - but found this TV to be very cranky. Ultimately, it only got one channel whose reception I would consider finicky at best. Every few seconds we would get a signal/good picture, but it wouldn't last. Never got anything for the rest of our local channels. Tried booster antenna - still no luck. Took it all back.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I got this for my mom for Christmas because her old CRT TV will be obsolete in 2 months. This TV works great and the picture is amazing. She is thrilled to have her kitchen TV be improved and for a relatively-low price. And, it's got a tiny footprint.
If you're at all worried, YES, it picks up digital channels, even high-def channels. It's a tiny screen but has great quality pictures. The sound is good enough - what you'd expect out of something this big.
If you check out the majority of the negative reviews, it's because of the reception. Our TV is near a window in the heart of Houston TX and gets all the major over-the-air digital channels, and they come in beautifully.
The antenna MUST be extended FULLY for all channels to be watchable. If the antenna is even 30% retracted, we lose channels. So, if you're going to use this TV far outside of major metropolitan areas, you likely will need a stronger antenna than the one that is included.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
The TV works great. It's the reception that suffers. There is just not enough infrastructure to pick up signal everywhere. If your not near a metropolitan area or you have a cable hookup this TV is not for you.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
The problem is not with the TV, but with the broadcasters. If you live near a city you will get reception but the digital broadcast signal is only good out to about 30 miles (at best - line of sight) and you just will not get any reception untill the broadcasters ad more repeaters to boost the signal out further. It's a technology that requires more infrastructure.

Just purchased yesterday looking for something to have when power goes out and to use on the boat in the summer. Found that the built in antenna is useless but when I attached the remote antenna that came with the tv the reception of digital channels was excellent. The built in antenna couldn't pick up the signal at all. Looks like it can do what I would like.

This is a great little TV for people who camp in RV's without power hookups. The picture is crystal clear when used with an outdoor RV antenna and since it has a digital tuner you will not have to worry about a converter box after the conversation.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
...but the quality is far from consistent. I wanted a tiny digital TV for my bedroom and chose the Dynex version of this model. I had known ahead of time to invest in a good antenna, which helps scan stations. But the unit is very inconsistent in reception. Sometimes a station will come in great, other times that same station is "No signal." Moving the rabbit-ears helps ...sometimes ...but what a hassle.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
Product is very sleek, modern in appearance, and very light-weight. Re-chargable batteries are built-into the unit; no need to purchase separate power or car adapters, they come with it. The battery life is "only" 1-hour & 40 minutes (or 100 minutes, as indicated in manual) before you have to change unit again. If watching the tv, while it is plugged into an outlet, the unit is incapable of charging; it can only charge when it is turned off. Reception was terrible. I returned it the very next day.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I plugged a Verizon FiOS Coax Cable right into the side of this LCD & hit Auto on the remote. The unit did everyhting else itself. It sits on my desk like a picture frame next to my desktop computer and the picture quality is AMAZING. I just watched DEPARTED on HBO while I straightened my home office desk and the picture quality is a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. GREAT PRODUCT for use with coax cable.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
First off, to the person who said it has a bottom mount that should have been included with the tv. This is a standard camera tripod mount. If you feel the need to mount the tv then use that. Your camera doesn't come with a tripod either.
This is a great product. My only gripes are that the volume cannot be controlled by remote control (minor), and it does not use standard batteries. During hurricanes where you can be without power for a few days you need something that will allow it to recharge. Fortunately my car has a built in ac outlet so I can charge it, but many others would need to buy a power inverter to charge this in their cars. The car adapter does not charge the battery.
All in all it is a good purchase, and a nice tv to have while cooking, bathing, or traveling.

1st off I own [@] version of this (model # Dynex DX-7HTV), it's the same extact unit as Radio Shack "Accurian" model. Just that it's [$] cheaper! I use this TV on my boat in September for the NFL (if it's a nice day out in New England) Anyway...I use the 12 volt input on my boat & it barley puts a dent in my Marine Deep-Cycle batteries. The downside is I would have preferred AA batteries vs. the built-in NiMH battery pack myself. I did order an extra battery pack from Dynex directly for an extra [$] plus [$] S/H. This comes in handy when you want 200+ minutes & you have no AC or DC outlets near by. The picture is pretty soild for 480x234 in a 7" screen. I did use my home outside OTA to connect to the unit to load in ALL of the HDTV channels out there. The supplied rod antenna works ok outdoors "if" you're within 30 miles on your digital towers. On my boat, I don't need an external antenna, but have one hand just in case. Sound? Well..come on two 0.2 watt speakers? Let's just say it gets the job done. I would recommend this TV if you understand it limitations. It does what any small portable digital TV can if asked to perform. It's a winner IMHO, just that you should buy the [@] version & save yourself[$].

This portable TV worked a lot better in the store than when I had to use it at home. I moved it all over the house for the best pick up of stations. I have yet to get all three network stations. The only positive I will say is that whatever station is received has a good picture - but all three network stations are hard to get - at least in my house. I would NOT recommend this purchase to anyone!

Purchased this tv less than a week ago. It's absolutely perfect. I'm totally satisfied. I drive a taxicab in Austin, TX. I watch it while waiting for a fare at the airport. Living in Florida where hurricanes are frequent and power outages are even more freguent, a battery powered TV is essential. Unfortunately, this effort is severely hampered by a very inadequate atenna. You cannot get a digital picture unless you are within eyesight of the transmitter tower and the analog signal is very fuzzy. A great idea that needs upgrading.

I purchased this TV to use while at work during football season. I was sceptical to purchase it but was desperate. At first I only got a couple stations with ok reception. After searching online I found a great antenna to use with it.
THIS IS A MUST!
After purchasing this TV you need to buy the Audiovox Flat Multi-Directional Antenna (model# ANT1500). It just plugs into the antenna port and vualla, you have all networks with perfect digital quality and sound. I love this tv now and that is why I decided to write this review. Buy this tv, just don't forget the antenna...

We travel, wife shops, I watch TV and read in SUV. Paid same price for a 4 inch, 7 inch is way better and louder. BUT--as the book says digital stations don't work if you are moving. Antenna is worst I have seen. If you can find an old analog cell antenna (mine has a magnetic base), here's a solution. I jammed one end of a coiled paper clip in the end of a video cable and inserted the other end into the cell wire. Wiggle connection until you have a stable signal, then tape it down. I'm sure you can do it better.[...].Anyway, I get old TV stations 45-100 miles away from under my garage roof, outside I get some of the digital stations 70 miles away (perfect picture).[...]. As Dr. John almost said, if you don't do it you know somebody else will.

After a few months from my purchase my power cord acquired a short in it. I called on the warranty and they wanted me to pay to ship the power cord and they would ship me a new one in 5 weeks. This is not satisfactory. I requested a prepaid mailer and they don't do this. I also asked questions about the battery as mine only list 1 hr if not plugged in. I was told I would have to call their main office. Talk about passing the buck. So basically unless the tv completely quits and needs to be replaced don't bother with the warranty as it will cost you more then going to the store to replace it. Sad. Very poor customer service.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
Picture is below par for the size but useable. I live 35 miles from the DTV towers and knew I would have problems at that distance. I bought it for power outages after dependable analog goes away hoping my rooftop antenna will perform. Stay tuned for that. I took it near the towers and used a 1965 bow tie antenna to scan the OTA channels. All ok. Scanned cable at home. Some DTV channels missing. The VHF antenna is useless for most DTV channels in the UHF band. The bow tie took care of that for scanning and memory. Have a rooftop antenna ready. RS...feel free to send me a remote that actually works. Tapping it to get some function is not my idea of quality. How do I get a new remote?

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
Due to my duties, I have to make readings and test with professional equipment, but usually use a little consumer TV monitor in my truck to watch TV signals on my area. I was very excited when finally found a portable TV set with both tuners (Analog & Digital). I suffer a great deception and was surprised on the poor reception capability of this Accurian TV set. Talking and comparing in the analog world with other portable TV sets this is the worst receiver that I has used. Signals that I received perfectly with other sets due to the proximity or the coverage from different TV stations (VHF & UHF) where received extremely noisy and unstable with this unit. I know very well the actual limitations that the new ATSC (DTV System) represent for the portability, but if this is the performance with an analog signal, how will be with the digital signal? If I can’t scan any digital signal with the built-in antenna, what will be the sense to have a portable TV with an out door high gain antenna?
An additional problem is that those stations that are transmitting with the second group audio signal can’t be decoded because only has the first group.
Definitely this “good looking set” needs drastically to be improved on the reception capability.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
Wow; for a brand I had never heard of before, I was blown away when I set it up last nite (8-1) @ the office. It found many stations via auto-scan [waiting for the antenna purchased from another website]. I was able to catch the Yanks last nite--painfully lose 1-0 in the 9th to the Angels--HOWEVER, caught the game on "digital" channel 9 [the auto-scan found "regular" and "digi" stations with the same channel number. Of course, the "regular" stations were below par, but I can wait patiently for my antenna. @ any rate, PLEASE believe me when I say it was exactly like watching the game in your home on a high-def LCD big screen...straight up. One of the best purchases made this year. Thx- MLA
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
After reading the first review, i Had to make a post. This is a digital tv, so of course unless you have a uhf antenna, you will not get good reception. the supplied telescoping vhf antenna does not work very well unless you are near a transmission tower. So any attempt to attach rabbit ears, as one reviewer noted, will not yield any better results.
Also, with any television signal, when travelling down the road you will not receive a great signal either.
I think expectations are not in line with reality.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
What a great idea: a small TV with both analog and digital tuners. After a couple of month's use, the digital tuner lost the signal after the set was on for 20 minutes. The screen turns blue with the "Lost Signal" in the middle. The digital cable coax was still plugged into the set.I called the number listed in the manual for Customer Service for help in diagnosing the problem. Everyone I talked with on the 8-10 calls I made to them for help was nice and very pleasant. But no one could help me without calling someone else or sending an email to some mysterious department. They all promised to call me back but no one ever did. So I called them again. I got Donald Hunter on the line. This must be a code name for "someone's on the line with a problem and we don't know what to do". He was never there when I called again, and again, and again. I don't think he exists. Foolish me! I failed to make these calls within the 90-day warrantee period for free labor. Now they want to charge me[$] for labor to correct the problem. But the parts are free. Big deal! so it will cost me to send the set to California plus the [$]. I don't know if it is worth it.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
Accurian 7"TV fails miserably as a replacement for our 15yr.old Magnavox 5"analog TV with a similar antenna system. It could only pick up one local VHF & one local UHF Station. Also,Audio quality was poor(tinny& scratchy). Menu navigation was difficult/erratic(with remote control & TV button)& occasionally did not respond per instructions.
As a comparison, our analog 5" Magnavox TV receives all of our local VHF & most of our local UHF Stations(no external antenna required). The Video & Audio reception on every Station is of very good quality,if not excellent,in all locations throughout our home.
Was very disappointed in the performance of the Accurian 7" TV - needs very much improvement!
Would love to have a 7"TV similar to the Accurian with digital capability, but with at least the same performance capabilties & quality as our current Magnavox 5" analog TV.
I have returned the Accurian 7" TV to Radio Shack.
Hopefully,a much better performing similar product will come along in the near future.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
This tv works great if you use the proper external antenna. Rabbit ears don't work too well unless they're amplified, and that limits portability. I found an antenna at a department store called the RCA digital flat antenna. It's a new design. White and tablet-like looking, it's made specifically for digital tvs and it works GREAT! Best of all it's not amplified so no power source is required. It's also lightweight. I'm talking more about the antenna than the tv because the antenna is very important. Without an external antenna this tv is useless, but with this digital antenna I pick up all digital stations in my area. I live between 8-15 miles from my local television stations. I take my tv to work with me sometimes and so far the battery hasn't run out on me. 1 hour and 40 minutes is plenty of time to watch whatever. It also charges in about 4 hours. The volume is plenty loud enough. I usually keep it around mid-level.

This is a great looking set, but the picture quality was so poor it was almost non-existent. Also, the battery is only good for 100 minutes and then must be recharged. During hurricane events, the power will be out much longer than 100 minutes. What a disappointment! I returned it the next day.

I bought this little tv to replace an analog unit and could not be more pleased. Yes, I did add the RCA antenna (less than $10) and that made all the difference in reception. Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I was searching high and low for a portable TV to replace the one I have now, soon to be a useless paperweight in 2009. I was thrilled to find this one and wasn't let down after my purchase.
CONS:
> I can only get 1-3 channels without an external antenna.
> Volume control is a radio dial so there's no volume control on the remote. Not a CON as much as a slight inconvenience.
> Cost.
PROS:
> Fantastic picture!
> Fantastic sound!
> Video input; connect a portable DVD for dual monitors, camcorder, cable/FIOS, etc.
> Light weight.
I always use it plugged in at home or in the car so I can't report on battery life.
This little LCD definitely met all my expectations.
On a final note, I was looking for a small antenna to use with this TV and found the RCA ANT111. This little $10 antenna gives me the BEST reception of any powered/unpowered antenna I’ve ever owned! (And I’ve gone through quite a few.) I get ALL local digital stations on my little LCD with this antenna.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
If you buy this TV expect to also buy an external antenna and watch the TV in a static location. No moving around folks. The others are right about really poor reception with the supplied attena. However I bought an RCA Flat Multi-Directional Indoor Antenna([$] and my reception now is most excellent. The number of received channels more than quadrupled with the add-on antenna. The LCD is very clear and attractive. I'd give it 5 stars if (1) it came in the box with decent reception, and (2) it lent itself to watching it while carrying it around. It meets my needs, but I do not think it would be a good car TV.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
Well, I was really looking forward to a nice "large" screen small digital TV with the 2009 deadline coming up. It was nice looking out of the box, but as soon as I turned it on after letting it do the channel "auto scan," my heart sank.
I tried it all over my home - next to huge windows, upstairs, downstairs, away from any interference, etc. All I got at best was a very snowy poor picture in all locations, and "No Signal" in some. I have two other 5" screen TV's that are 3-5 years old (a Casio and another brand) and they beat this hands down, with clear color pictures and no problems with reception, even in my basement!
The other "con" to this TV is that it relies only on a 90-100 minute rated rechargeable battery. Until they come out with TV's where I can change the batteries myself (and of course get a decent picture!) I am waiting. This was a completely worthless TV, unless you just want to listen to the audio, which if the reception was OK, was pretty good. If I wanted audio however, I have plenty of radios.
They should have really waited on this until they could provide a TV (even if they charged $100. more for it) which would get good reception and clear pictures. I have no problems with any other of my 2 portable TV's in my home.
Don't waste your money.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I wanted a new tv before the change to HD only next February and I think I now have it. I couldn't get clear reception without adding an antanna, but once I did, the picture is pretty good. And for a change I can occasionally glance over and see a color picture. We are allowed to listen to tv, not watch it, but you do get to cheat on occasion and take a look when something "big" happened in whatever show your watching. But it is a fairly clear picture.

I admit the reception wasn't great as I work in an office with cabinets & cubicles obstructing TV & Radio waves. A friend working in the same office has a clear path to a window & no problems, perfect reception. I purchased an antenna & voila perfect reception!! The color & picture is amazing. The sound is a bit tinny; I use IR headphones for sound so as not to interfere with co-workers.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
I wanted an over-the-air portable TV with a digital (ATSC) tuner, which I could easily move in my apartment from my bedroom to the kitchen.
For this purpose, this TV works adequately for me. I'm located within the city limits of Seattle, about seven miles (line-of-sight) from our major TV transmission stations. At this vantage point, I’m able to receive all of our local digital TV stations with little difficulty. Also, I tested the unit about five miles farther north (for a total of 12 miles from the transmission towers), and I was still able to get good reception from all of our local digital stations.
However, keep in mind that it won’t work without cable if you’re behind a hill (even locally), in a downtown skyscraper, or if you’re located much farther out from the transmission towers.
Aside from these limitations, my major gripe is that this portable TV only has a permanent internal lithium battery (lasting, at most 90 minutes), instead of having the capability of using rechargeable AA batteries.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
Have only used this inside home so far. I wanted a portable tv for the kitchen and I do not have cable installed in this area either. I live in a suburb, and reception was virtually non-existent with antenna provided. I pulled out my old rabbit ear antenna and got great reception for only one HD station (happens to be the one I watch the most). The picture can get distorted if you move the wrong way. Unsure if the switchover will help, and/or buying an external antenna that does not have all of the metal. May try another antenna, and then return tv if it doesn't work well enough.
If antenna situation was fixed, I think the picture quality and sound are excellent.
antenna and now I get most stations and the picture is quite sharp and crisp. The challenge is finding an antenna that does not make my kitchen look like a spaceship.

Very poor over the air reception. Very pricey for features you get. Need to include carrying case. For this price, should pick up signal right away, but kept getting lost signal and had to re-scan several times, still only picked up a few channels. Also, no way to fine tune. May be ok when using another external antenna, but for use away from home - no way!

Very poor reception with built in antenna. Antenna only rotates 270 degrees due to the design of the case. I have tried several antennas but only found one antenna, RCA Model 1215, which has a 55 decibel gain and works very well. Built in antenna only detects analog signals. I live on the western edge of Houston, Texas and never had any problem with analog signals on my existing small portable.

This is a Portable Digital TV set for the road. Or a back-up in the event of bad weather. I can receive all the Digital TV stations on my portable just like the Living room or bedroom. Also love the closed captioning. Price is very reasonable.

I play in a small 2 person band that plays along with custom karaoke music, and I have bought many small TV's from [...] sellers to view the lyrics. I need TV's that have a tripod mount and work off a 12vdc supply. This TV has both and is much better built than the TVs you get on [...]. Very stable and sturdy. The manual says it takes 9vdc, but I checked the auto adapter, and it puts the pure 12vdc from the car to the TV, so it works on my 12vdc supply just fine also.

I use the TV while working out in my garage. Excellent picture and sound. This TV picks up HD channels without any problems.

I read a number of negative reviews that indicated that the reception is poor. This is absolutely the case UNLESS you add a bowtie antenna (with 75-Ohm Coax Combiner/Splitter). I went from only 1 station picked up to over 20 stations. I don't know why they don't include the bowtie antenna, but it's required to pick up digital stations. Fortunately, they only cost a few dollars (~$10 with splitter).

As long it's hooked to cable it's wonderful.

This TV replaced my soon to become extinct 5" (analog) Portavision, which I purchased [...] for about the same price, five years ago. Because I live in direct line of sight from the Mt. Sutro transmission tower in San Francisco, I am able to draw in all local digital, as well as analog, stations--transmitted from that tower--using the set's built-in antenna. The reception is generally excellent, though I have noticed that the sound will drop off from time to time on some stations, or the picture will "freeze" momentarily. Along this line, a great improvement could be made by designing the antenna to turn in all directions. (You can only turn the antenna in a half-circle in back of the television, which means you have to change your seating position if it cannot pick up a station within that range.)This is, by no means, a perfect portable TV. For starters, it should have been fitted with some type of carrying handle. It's easy to accidentally touch the relatively fragile screen when grabbing onto the TV.Also, while the picture's brightness can be adjusted, there is no provision to tweak the intensity or hue of the color. In most cases, flesh tones take on a pink or reddish appearance. In some cases, people look downright radioactive! In terms of overall picture quality, the old Portavision, with its CRT analog screen, provided a much more life-like image.I have also noticed that the brightness of the screen, itself, is relatively uneven in places. For instance, there is a band, about 1/2 inch wide, that is slightly lighter in intensity, that runs down the right side of the screen. This generally shows up during times when a "dark" image is displayed, such as a room interior. In spite of all this, I am generally satisfied. I realize that as the technology progresses, there will be second and third generation TVs that will probably address some of these issues.

Considering this is a small portable TV, it does very well. My office is made of concrete block so I will need an external antenna to get the best reception.

I bought this TV today for my office so that I wouldn't miss a snap of any of the NFL playoff games. Unfortunately for me, my work schedule changed requiring me to work on Saturdays. Set up of the TV was simple, and I am able to pick up 13 channels after I used the autoscan feature located in the menu. I read some of the other reviews stating that reception is poor. After the success that I am having, I think the poor reception they are experiencing is probably due to their locale, as opposed to the actual TV itself. I am quite impressed with the picture of the digital channels. I love the way the picture presents itself in 16:9 format. The remote control is quite handy. The only con that I have found so far is the sound. You are probably better served using headphones, or running a line out to another audio source.
Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
As others have indicated, you must be in a very good reception area for this to be of much use. We only get one station clearly if we are outside. Forget using it in a moving car unless you invest in an external antenna.

I bought this TV today and am satisfied with the picture quality with digital TV, even though I had to go back to the store and buy an external Antenna b/c the build in Antenna is of more or less poor quality.
However, as a secondary TV for your shed or Computer room this TV works great.
I can't comment the Batterie life b/c I haven't charged and run the TV on Batterie yet but I am not too concerned about that anyway b/c I'll use the TV most of the time on AC Power.

Hey Guys, I bought this tv with much anticipation. Features were nice! A little pricey. The only thing is. Um, one channel! Now I could be wrong but, shouldn't we expect more of a nice fancy expensive tv then to simply get just one channel. Even with a separate external antenna I got five blue, blank, no signal channels and yes. That one channel! I returned it!

Looks great, hard to find a TV with tuner this size. But the antenna reception is very poor.

I had a dilemma. I'm a huge LSU fan and also a huge Red Sox fan. I have season tickets to LSU football games and the LSU game was going to take place the same time of Game 6 of the Red Sox vs. Indians 2007 ALCS.
I finally decided to find a portable TV and bring it into Tiger Stadium with me so I could watch the Red Sox on TV while watching LSU.
This TV did the job perfectly. The reception was the best I've ever gotten from a portable/handheld TV.
I do have a few gripes:
-I only got about 90 minutes of battery life and since it's an internal battery I couldn't just buy a few extra AA batteries and bring them to the stadium with me.
-When you plug the TV into your cigarette lighter it doesn't charge. It doesn't use the battery, but it doesn't charge.
Other than those small gripes I am very happy with the TV.
I would rate it a 4/5 stars.

Comments about Accurian Accurian™ 7" Portable Handheld TV:
With the impending Digital TV switchover looming in the near future, I've been keeping an eye on the various television models, watching as they switch over to digital tuners. Large and medium-sized sets have been going digital for a few years already, but one class was still missing from this transition: the portable and handheld models. No DTV-capable portable and handheld televisions were anywhere to be found...until the introduction of this Accurian. Bingo, now the lineup is complete.
This television is a good general-purpose portable TV with a decently-sized screen and simple-to-use controls. The picture is crisp, and the sound, for the most part, is clear. As with most digital televisions, there is a little bit of setup required during the first use, but it is fairly simple and straightforward.
Alas, as with most products, there are a few minor issues. Most notably is reception quality. For "standard" analog TV, it's quite good. However, the included antenna is poor at picking up digital signals, unless you happen to live very close (Less than five miles) to the transmitter tower. You WILL need an external antenna of some sort if you expect to pick up more than just one or two digital channels with this TV (Luckily the internal antenna can be easily disconnected to connect an external one).
Another odd issue regards some strange "sound anomalies" I have noticed, especially while watching digital channels. On some shows, for some odd reason, the music and other background audio is much louder than the dialog, sometimes to the point of drowning it out. It's not serious enough to really affect the viewing of this television, but it can be an annoyance at times.
The final issue I have noticed is the battery life. When fully charged, the internal battery will run for only about an hour before it quits, which isn't long at all for a battery-powered device. Then, when it is plugged in, it takes eight hours for the batter to fully charge. If you plan on making heavy use of this TV, expect to be tethered to the wall or car cigarette socket by the power cord most of the time.
Relatively minor issues aside, I think this TV is a good model to introduce the portable and handheld class of televisions to the digital world.
