Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
Keep the main unit by the kitchen window and the sensor in a shaded area 48 inches off the ground and over grass. The unit is 4 years old and I have changed the batterys once. It has never failed. Sensor is about 60 ft. away.Works great.
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
What a disappointing product from The Shack. Line of sight readings only, put the sensor outside and the unit quits working. What a poor design. Who wants a wireless thermometer that has to be within sight of the sensor. Try to use more than one sensor, impossible. Pity the poor guy that wants to put a sensor in his freezer. Hope he didn't spend andy money or that he can get a refund
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
Bought one and the external unit did not get close to outdoor temperature after 2 hours. Exchanged it for another, and by morning the external unit was 5-6 degrees off. Inside temperature was very accurate.

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
I have bought a cabin and need to monitor temp in crawl space when I'm not there to find out if I have to insulate pipes from freezing. The minimum temp memory feature is exactly what I need. On the web you can only find this feature on $300. thermometers! All others retain only 24-hr, one day memory. Thanks Radio Shack.
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
This item is great. I find myself checking it all the time. I thought I had the outside temperature remote in a great place until today when the temperature read 52 degrees when it was really 40 degrees. I need to move it to a place where no sun don't shine on it to get an accurate reading. Plan on buying one for my sister.

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
This unit had problems right out of the box. LCD number segments were dead and the remote sensor did not function. I would like to return it to a local store but there are none in stock. I would strongly suggesting looking elsewhere for a remote sensing thermometer.
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
I want to purchase more remote sensor / transmitters. Each thermometer is capable of reading 3 separate sensors. One of my uses them is to monitor each of my 3 freezers and I don't want to buy 3 complete systems and toss the thermo.John Pawlowski / [@]

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
Easy to read, but worked for only 10 months. Then
readings became erroneous and erratic.
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
Easy to read. As accurate as thermometer in my GMC Jimmy and Cadillac. Mounted on garage below soffit with display about 50' away on shelf in house.
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
Compared to former RS units, the display and body construction are flimsy and cheap appearing. It works, but RS's quality is decreasing. Look elsewhere for better value.

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
We love this product. We actually purchased two, so we can see the indoor/outdoor temperature both upstairs and downstairs. It's great for when we are getting ready in the morning and just want to know the temp outside (so we know what to wear). I recommend this to everyone. It was very easy to use and set up, too. It is very accurate, as our A/C thermostat matches what the indoor temperature on the thermometer says. GREAT PRODUCT!

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
After just a few months use, the outdoor sensor stopped working outdoors. The store wouldn't replace it, even though it had a 1 yr warranty.[...]
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
I have had one of these units for several years and really like it. I bought a second unit because I thought the first one had quit working, but it turned out to be a bad set of new batteries! So I put the second one downstairs and placed the remote sensor in the garage. I like that I can check the outdoor temp as well as the garage temp from either unit. I really like being able to see what the low and high readings have been each day. If the temperature gets really cold at night, however, the remote sensor won't work.
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
Directions state for outdoor sensor, "do not let it get wet. If wet, dry thoroughly at once. Not too practical for outdoor service
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
Outdoor sensor failed after becoming unreliable. Nice compact unit of low quality.
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
Indoor readings OK but outdoor reading was 8 degrees high when checked against another electronic unit and also a mechanical one. Screws for the sensor battery are too small and very difficult to remove even with a micro screwdriver. Will return unit to store.

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
The unit I'm using is several years old (5+?). Contrary to others experience this outside unit has been attached outside the garage, under trees, in the shrubs, a stake in the yard, etc. & has never failed due to moisture (or otherwise).
Dunno why y'all are having probs with that.
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
Very easy to read display from across the room.
Easy manual scan of up to three remote temp sensors.
Contrary to those negative reviews claiming only ONE sensor works.
You can run three(transmitters)remote sensors, BUT, the receiver will only AUTOscan One.
Others (TWO) on different channels can be read by using MANUAL button on top of display/receiver Unit. I bought two of these for different areas of home, both work fine so far, on multiple remotes.
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
This is a very nice unit. I have read the reviews associated with this product and can clearly see their points of view. After examining each unit (the main unit and remote sensor) it is clear to me that the remote sensor is not weather resistant. This did provide a challenge with setting up the unit. Fortunately, I found good exposure for the remote sensor under an eave on the north side of my home. It is here that it is protected from direct sunlight and moisture. For those who are looking for a remote reading thermometer that can be directly exposed to the atmospheric elements, this unit is not for you. I have been using this unit for over 2 years and it is still performing very well. The key is providing a sheltered place outside for your remote sensor. I would have rated this unit five stars if the remote sensor was weatherproof.

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
Had this for about 2 months. Had a heavy rain, and the outside sensor stopped working. I had it mounted under an eave, but it still dead after one strong rain.
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
The first one was so good we bought a second one for another room.
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
THis has a really large display that can be seen across the room -- excellent.
THe bad thing is that the outside temperature reader has no way to stick it on to the window. I used scotch tape -- but that is not really good. Another similar product that I bought (and it did not work well) had an excellent way to stick the reader on the glass.

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
I purchased this thermometer about a year ago and after a few months the outdoor reading consisted of a blank line. I took it back and tried another one , same exact thing. The salesman had no idea why this happened. Because Radio Shack only allows 30 days they would not allow for a replacement or another one, bummer!

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
I installed the receiver in my family room and the transmitter (sensor) about 20 feet away on the front porch. The system worked fine indoors with both devices near each other but once outside in 54 degree weather the transmitter stopped working. After much playing around I returned the first unit and tried another. The second unit lasted a little bit longer outdoors but after 5 minutes or so it also died. I'm disappointed in Radio Shack for selling a piece of junk like this and I've been buying from Radio Shack for 15 years or so.

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
It would have been alright if I could have gotten out the small screws in the battery compartment of the remote sensor. I had to return this one for a different one at the store. The temperature readings on the replacement were off as much as 6 degrees. I finally went to a different company for my thermometer.

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
I have two. At first I was disappointed and thought they must not be accurate because I put both units along with their remote sensors on my desk and got 4 way-different readings ranging up to 10 degrees F apart even after waiting a few minutes. I think installing new batteries must warm them or something when you breath on them or touch them. I was very disappointed. But then I was distracted for about 30 minutes and when I returned they all came within about 0.6F of each other! Since then, I placed the bases and the remotes apart and together next to other accurate thermometers for hours at time and they always agree with in 1 degree or less. Definitely easy to set up and use. Just install batteries and look at them! Just push button on top to cycle through the three available channels. I found out it is compatible with the remote sensor of the more costly (and fancier) Model: BAR668HGA Catalog #: 63-1090 as far as the temperature readings are concerned. Of course this unit (Model: EMR662, Catalog #: 63-1088) will not pick up the humidity reading from that sensor. One thing I really like about this unit is the digital readout for the in & out temperature readings is much larger easy to see across the room than the 63-1090 because that one has to show so many other pieces of information like date/time, humidity, atmospheric pressure etc. A couple of other nice features are the trend arrows on the base and the digital reading also on the remote sensor. I’ve owned others that have no reading on the remote, you need to be at the base. There is an error on the initial web description, “This single-channel wireless thermometer system provides indoor and outdoor temperatures...”. Once you go to the tech specs tab the error is corrected: the unit actually has three channels. Excellent quality construction. Very happy! I plan to buy a few more today for gifts.

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
You could sell a million of these if marketed as:

I would buy two more monitors if I could find out how.

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
Needed to monitor my greenhouse temperature in cold weather. Greenhouse located less than 50 feet from house. I was so disappointed that nothing made it work correctly, even replacing new batteries with different brand new batteries. Too Bad!
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
I just received one of these as a Christmas present, but it does not work properly.
Read the instructions, installed new batteries, setup both units indoors to test the accuracy of the transmitter and receiver. Both should give the same temperature, right ?
The transmitter's temperature reading is about 10 degrees too high.
So I'll attempt to return it to my local Radio Shack without a receipt (since it was a gift) for an exchange with one that hopefully will work.

I should have known not to trust Radio Shack. It never worked. I tried several attempts to get it going doing all that the instructions read to do. Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
Thanks to all the reviews. I found them helpful in areas where the instructions were not. Ive had two units for a few years and never knew or took the time to educate myself on how to use them to full capacity. One sensor has been outdoors under a roof and has always worked fine. Today I placed the other sensor in the basement so now I will know how cold it is there without actually walking down there each time to check. The product is designed to make you want all the channels working so yes I can see why being able to get the extra sensors alone would make this a better deal.

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
Buying in this price range I do not expect the units to last more than a couple of years and for that they are worth the money. Quality remote temperature units start at $150. Radio Shack makes it very difficult if not impossible to purchase the other two remote units to complete the package. I had to buy three complete thermometer kit to get the three remotes needed for my project. In summary, you get what you pay for and I don't expect these to be precise or long lasting devices.

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
My outside unit was in my refrigerator so I could monitor the temps. It died in 4 MONTHS. No sense throwing good money after bad. RS sold us a piece of junk, and I'll shop elsewhere from now on. Oh, they love phones, though.

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
I had a wired RS indoor/outdoor thermometer that worked for 13 years, until the cat ate the outdoor probe. I got this to replace it. I was hoping for the same level of reliability, or even close to it, but the outdoor sensor died after less than a year, even though I kept it sheltered, and sealed in a plastic bag. So instead of going into an endless cycle of replacing disposable thermometers, I got one of those big dial jobs to mount outside my kitchen window. At least I know THAT will continue to function for a while!

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
First, you don't see that the remote unit is not water proof until you open the package. Box says it's approved for outdoor use. Don't they think making it water proof would be the first criteria to making it for outdoor use? Second, the base uses AA batteries and the remote unit uses AAA. What's up with that? Third, claimed to be expandable...but you can't purchase additional remote units. You would have buy 3 complete packages to get your 3 remote units. Then what would you do with the 2 additional base units? Not practical at all. Fourth, outdoor remote unit quit working after less than a year. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
Allows me to check the temperature in my greenhouse and outside. Great buy.
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
The inside unit has a capacity for 3 remote sensors but RS does not have them for purchase.
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
I have been using this unit for about 2 years and I'm very pleased with it. The remote's distance from the base is about 40 feet, going through just one wall to the outside. I like that the base's numbers are big and bold, thus easy to see at a distance, and the remote has its own window showing its temperature. It's just too bad that separate remotes are no longer available. Other than that, I believe both remote and base thermometers are pretty accurate. Just keep the remote out of direct sun, and at best, out in the open.
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
It works great. I use it in the living room & outside. Easy to read and easy to use. Remote is about 40' away. Only complaint is remote takes a different size battery that the base unit. No biggie.

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
This is a great thermometer for monitoring indoor and outdoor temperatures. The positives are that it is very accurate and easy to read. As an avid gardener, the maximum/minimum temperature feature is also a real plus. The cons are that the remote sensor must be in a sheltered location for long life. Fortunately, I have my remote located under the porch roof where it is protected from sunlight, rain, and snow. The other drawback is that the transmission range is 100 feet through open air. Obviously, the main display is located indoors so the remote has to transmit through at least one wall to reach the main display in any application. Having the signal transmit through walls seriously cuts back on the transmission range. In my set up, the total distance between my remote and main unit is only 10 feet with transmission through a porch roof and exterior wall. In addition, my outdoor remote sensor is set up where it faces towards the main display. My set up is working very well, but it is important to keep the remote sensor and main unit close together for best results. I think the directions need to clarify this problem a bit more clearly. Also, if you live in a cold winter climate (like I do) it is recommended that you use lithium batteries in the remote sensor to get you through the coldest nights. All in all, the pluses outweigh the negatives and I'm enjoying my unit.

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
Had an old Radio Shack in/out thermometer, worked great for years, even went through several hurricanes, no problems. Went to replace the outdoor sensor, no longer made. (Worked too well I guess). Bought this model. Placed both in & out units exactly where the previous ones used to be. Worked fine for about 4 hours, then, the indoor unit would not display outside reading unless it felt like it! Displays properly maybe 20% of the time. [...] I was also astonished to see the warning to not let the outdoor sensor get wet! Perhaps this model is only intended for sale in Death Valley? My own fault, I vowed not to throw away $$ on R S electronics after I bought a combo vcr/dvd unit that died before the first set of batteries gave out in the remote! Quality has plummeted at R S, and I've been buying their products for 40 years.
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
Just purchased 63-1088 and batteries from [...]. Read and followed instructions but, the main unit does not read from the remote sensor despite repeated resets and presses of search button. For testing the main and remove sensor are 10 feet apart on a wooden counter. Your mileage may vary but this turkey goes back to the store tomorrow. Reading the customer comments [...] wireless temp sensors it looks like you have about a 50/50 chance of the wireless temp sensor actually working! [...] Would give it zero stars but you must give at least a 1 star review to submit a rating/comment.
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
Had model #1087, the indoor reading so small I had to squint. This is just as accurate as thermometer in another room as hot as mine--but NOW I can see readout from across the room! Hated having to also buy tiny screwdriver just for setup, but pros already outweigh that!
Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
Got it - installed it - and depend on it. Works great. No complaints. It is a battery operated device and when it gets wet it's likely to be inaccurate. I put my outdoor sensor in a baggie. It works fine.

Comments about RadioShack Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer System:
I happened upon this thermometer at a radio shack store location that was having a closing sale. I am so glad I bought it, the thing works like a champ. To give you an idea of my setup, I live in a split level townhouse type building. I have the outdoor sensor on the ground level under my deck, and the inside one is upstairs in the living room. Quite a bit of barrier in between the two devices, but they work fine. It is simple on features but does its job well. I wish this was a little cheaper, but I plan on getting it as a gift for others.
