Why would a company design a product that would burn out your ipod by allowing the backlight to constantly stay on. Even when you turn off the back light the light turns back on after a few second. The best way for me to discribe this item is.. It's a CHARGER that looks like an alarm clock, that can be used as one; if you sleep with an eye patch. If anyone can turn the light off, do tell. Maybe the product if defective. Sorry....

You are supposed to be able to dock your Ipod to play out loud.

1.) The light stays on (annoying at night)
2.) If you hit snooze on purpose or by accident you have to unplug it for it to start playing again
3.) It froze completely froze my 80GB and my daughters 4GB. They both have to be taken t the Apple store or shipped back to Apple.
I would not recommend to anyone!

I smelled something burning and couldn't figure out what it was. Finally, I realized it was my Nano. My iPod was on charge and the screen read "No Firewall Protection. Connect only to USB." The iPod was so hot that it burned my hand. This product completely destroyed my Nano. Stay away from this piece of equipment.

This product should be avoided if your an experienced Ipod user. Got this for Xmas and returning it today. As others said...No Backlight turnoff, poor design. drains battery while plugged in.

This product is really good. I haven't had any issue's. I guess everyone else that has the product, bought it from stores that didn't take care of their products.

the backlight doesn't go off even if you set your settings on your ipod to off

i had trouble with the music not coming on with out hitting the snooze button (almost late for class) glad i had a back-up

look at the good side, it does make an expensive night-light LOL

Dont buy this it isnt worth your money or loosing your ipod

Not sure if this is 100% replicable, but it's working for me. To get rid of the constant backlight problem, simply unprogram the clock to automatically go to the iPod clock (which is a useless feature anyway) by going to the menu with the iPod docked, pressing Snooze for three seconds, and instead of going down to "Extras" (using the Snooze button per the manual), go down to "Shuffle All Songs" (or maybe anything else would work, but that's what I did). The first time I used it after that, it automatically went to Shuffle All Songs, but it doesn't do anything now. However, the backlight turns off after a few seconds, and STAYS OFF. It's been working for me for a couple of days now. Try it and see if this is a real fix.

I also cannot get the backlight to shut off no matter what I do. I shut it off on my nano, and it comes back on in a few seconds. Stay on all the time. If somone has figured out a way around this please share. Otherwise I am taking it back.

at first when i got this product it seemed great. it fit my ipod and played my music clearly.

shortly after, it started to beep non-stop. even during the music.you cant get rid of it, i tried every thing. i've even gotten shocked in the process.

this product also serves as a charge for your ipod, but it soon started to make my ipod lose its charge. my ipod now cant hold a charger for more than 15-20 minutes because of this product.

The backlight always stays on. Even if you turn it off, it comes back on in 10 seconds, so if anyone cares to help deal with this problem (in a nice, not insulting way, unlike some of you) that'd be great.

The backlight will not turn off. Even if you turn it off on the iPod, it comes back on and stays on ALL NIGHT. Makes it hard to sleep and will probably burn out the iPod light.

I can't believe so many [*] haven't figured out how to turn the backlight off and stop the incessant beeping. Yes, it does beep the FIRST time you dock your iPOD, but only until you set it up, and there are clear instructions on how to do that. It is very easy. Also, if you don't want your backlight to be on, go to settings and turn it off!For the price, this is a great bargain and very functional. The only downside for me was that it takes up too much space on my nightstand (I'm a minimalist), so I brought it to work to use on my desk.

There is no way to turn the backlight OFF. Even if you can turn it OFF, it will only last for 30sec and turn back ON.

Backlight will not turn off. Timer set to zero, Backlight dimmed as much as possible. While in the docking station I turn the back light off. It turns itself back on after 5 seconds. Not an effective alarm clock if you can't ever get to sleep. Manual has no referance to backlight or any mention of problem

I bought this as a gift. But a gift that keeps a person up because the light stays on all night is annoying. It would be better if the light dimmed or if a screensaver was possible for ipod.

Got convinced to buy this by a great salesman while traveling. Can't get the backlight to go off no matter what we try. Advice is to stay clear of this bargain - it is no bargain.

Two good things about this product: One, the design is nice. Combining an old fashioned bell alarm clock with an ipod product was brilliant. Secondly, it allows the user to play music from the ipod almost as if it were a regular clock radio.

However, the ever-glowing backlight is an issue for me. One concern being damage that may occur to the ipod screen. Also, while this would make a great night light for a 10 year old, most adults would not be too happy with it; myself included.

Another disappointing feature is it's inability to play without being plugged in. I expected the unit to pull energy from the ipod's battery as a regular clock radio does with a battery backup.

Bought two of these at Christmas for [...].When you plug the ipod in, the unit beeps every three seconds and will not stop beeping. So we cannot use it as the beeping keeps you awake.No where does it tell how to stop the beeping.

This is a great product. I have one myself and also bought two as gifts. Both recipients love it also. It is great as an alarm clock and doubles as a surprisingly loud music player.

Please do ignore the mindless drivel of the those who commented that are simply are technologically inept. The beeping sound when connecting is due to the alarm feature setting and the backlight can be either turned down low or turned off completely in the settings menu. Besides the player comes with... you never guess it... *INSTRUCTIONS*.

So people buy with confidence and enjoy.

I was hoping it was something I could fix, but from reading all of the reviews, the backlight going off seems to be everyone elses concern also. Even at its lowest setting, the light is very bright and hard to deal with while Im sleeping. If I do decide to keep the product, should I be concerned that this 8 hours of light every night will affect my screen?

No alarm clock known to man, until this ONE could wake up me, it has volume control, so if your a heavy sleeper like me, just crank it all the way up, (maybe you dont even need it all the way up!), or if your a light sleeper, keep it near the beginning-middle. I tested it just now, to make sure it WOULD wake me up, Im just so pleased with it. Im not sure if the backlight goes off, but to me it doesn't matter. OH, and its NOT THAT HARD TO FIGURE OUT. Even without instructions it might've tooken me about 10-15 minutes to figure it out.

I can't suggest this product enough. For it's price and quality, Accurian really has a wonder in it's hands. I've read some negative reviews only to realize that some people can't read a manual. The incessant beeping sound when you first insert your iPod is for the clock's need for setup with your iPod. Regarding the backlight - true, it never goes off. There is a way to lessen this problem though, bring the backlight level to its' lowest level in settings. Unless your eyelids are paper-thin, that light source should prove to be less of a problem. Read the manual and do the brightness thing - problems solved. This item is great and has top-notch speaker quality - astonishingly clear at even the loudest level.

I haven't really tested it as an alarm fully. I just got it. but i did find that when i set it to alarm at night the backlight would not go off. Therefore, i removed it and decided to just use it as a player cause it looks cute on my nightstand and i got if for 50% off. In the morning i plugged in my ipod to listen to music on my way out from work and the back light does go off. cuase it did, what did it? I'm not sure, I was clickn' and clickn here there. It might have a timer set in the alarm its self to turn off backlight. At first i couldn't get the backlight on now i was having problems turning it off. BUT IT DOES GO OFF! GOOD LUCK!!

This piece of equipment causes an annoying beeping sound to go off whenever an ipod is plugged into it every three seconds. I returned it for a second one and it happened to the second one too. There are no instructions and no helpline. You are on your own to figure out that you un fact are not an idiot and there is something defective in the product. When you bring it back to RS they look at you as if you are the technodope.

This would be fine except that back light does not turn off. I can't return it because it was a gift so I don't have the receipt. It's useless as an alarm.

Purchased Accurian Alarm Clock for iPod at my local Radio Shack. My iPod has been performing flawlessly for over a year hooked to my Bose Lifestlye system via miniplug. After 1 day in Accurian Alarm Clock for iPod, my 60 gb of music and album aw are history. My iPod is frozen, and my computer will not even recognize it in iTunes when connected. Yes I have back files...BUT...DON"T BUY THIS THING ! I will be visiting my Radio Schack dealer.

The IPOD LCD light is always on and can't be turned off. I'm not gunna let this thing destroy my ipod screen. The company should have really fixed this problem before releasing it for sale. I'm returning it ASAP...

Sound is great, but as others say, the backlight never goes away. I found the user's guide woefully inadequate to help me enjoy normal operation.

This is a great Idea, One major problem I had with this product is that the display light does not turn off. Secondly the clock display is not big enough. Not worth the trouble. Wait for the 2nd generation device to arrive after they fix the display issue.

i bought this, and was excited by the concept. but the backlight never turning off... surely when you tested this.. someone would've realized it was a problem? i sleep with my alarm clock beside me. and i turn off the lights.

Love the look of this product, but the fact that the display light cannot be turned off (despite setting the ipod's backlight feature to off) is a dealbreaker. Functionality sounded simple enough but in reality, hard to use.

DO NOT BUY THIS! The Backlight never turns off!!! Besides being hard to sleep through, having the light on for 8 hours a day can't be good for your iPod. Fix the backlight problem RadioShack, Accurian, or whoever you are. Better yet, test your products before you bring them to market. Unbelievable!

The instruction manual is only 1 page, not enough information. The iPod stays with the backlight on even if I turned it off. Navigator system Horrible. Not worth buying unless the backlight can be turned off. The only good thing was the sound.

Great look and sound. Alarm works reliably. I turned the backlight on my ipod video to the lowest setting and it doesn't bother me. I wish the ipod screen to show the time larger than the tiny clock or tiny numbers.

The sound is wonderful. It's just the thing to get a 13 year old girl up in the morning....but I don't know how to select. It says you can't use your iPod to navigate but I don't know how else to do it. Once I figure it out, I'm sure that it will be worth the trouble.

I wish I read the reviews here first. That backlight issue is annoying, but here's a simple solution for it..... lay the clock face down. You'll still be able to hear the alarm and it will really black out most of the light. If you want to see the time, just flip the clock back up.

I really enjoy this product. It is really easy to use and has a really good sound on for the size of it.

Surprisingly excellent sound quality, really, loud clear, easy to use after you figure out the weird setup... simple.. but backlight will either stay on all the time or turn off all the time. really annoying... cant beat how easy it is to use. kind of wish it had a battery so i could use it anywhere. but alas, all good things have a downfall.

Clock and Docking system is really great. The sound excelent for a small device. However having the backlight turned on all time is something that needs to change...

The ipod screen NEVER turns OFF???!!! have checked all the Apple.com sites and the problem is this Alarm clock. I had to return this product due to the fact that my ipod nano screen would Never turn off. Even after turning off the screen on the ipod it self. The reason this is a issue is I CANNOT SLEEP WITH THE SCREEN ON ALLLLL NIGHT!!!! I would only recommend this product for any use OTHER THAN an Alarm Clock. The sound is Great!

The actual clock and charging part is great, once you figure out how to use it. The VERY BIG huge downside is that I can't get the backlight to turn off when I have it docked. Not the way to go for an alarm clock, used primarily when you are sleeping...
