I bought 2, one to back up a computer on, & the other for storage & to use on multiple computers. I love the launch pad! It is so great to be able to use whatever browser I want on any computer & have all my bookmarks & passwords stored. It was very cheap when I bought it online on Black Friday. I think it was like [$]. I don't have Vista so I haven't used the ReadyBoost. I also like that the plug is retractable, my old PNY Attache had a cap that I was always losing. The key ring it has stretched out & unraveled. I really like it & have had no other problems except for the key ring. I would highly recommend it!

Great size and the retractable usb connection protects it from the elements without the worry of losing a cap. Great for downloading movies and music or taking pictures with you to share with family. A number of different programs already on the drive that are very useful.

It's typical of every USB key that slides out from its housing, if you try and stick it into a new USB port, 9 times out of ten, the slider clicks and the stick doesn't get inserted properly, so you have to slide the metal part out, insert it into the port, and then slide the metal part out again to actually make contact. I've owned a bunch of USB keys of many brands, and this style ALWAYS has this problem.

Very fast memory stick and reasonably priced, but I have read some complaints about the embedded software that pulls info. from our computers. Nice size storage at 8GB, but the automated splitting of the flashdrive into two seperate memory locations takes a little getting used to. One is viewed as a "CD". But the bottom line is it is a great product!

this flash drive is better than none but it is hard to keep locked so getting into a port is sometimes a problem. It does not seem to work that well on my laptop it does better on a pc.

Unit works well, but is very difficult to get plugged into USB ports, I've tried five ports on three computers and with each you have to really shove it hard to make it go into the USB port. Other than that and that's a big other, having 8gb is wonderful!

I use it mostly for moving music and photo files from home to office and back. It's got lots of space, especially if you delete the preinstalled software, which is only useful if you want to load programs onto the flash drive.

I have used my 1GB Cruzer so much that the letters and insignia have worn off. When I saw the 8GB at such a low price, I bought several. The retractable USB connector is great and no more lost caps. I attached it to my office keyring so it's always available.

This flash drive has a great capacity for photos and a variety of other things. I haven't tried to store videos on it, but it is certainly large enough to do so if I ever wanted. What a great value! I appreciate that these have come down so far in price.

This is a great investment for someone constantly on the move looking for a simple, large data storage device.
I use it mainly for school, transferring data back and forth from the lab back home. It beats sending e-mails to save data and is less cumbersome to have this nifty little device. It is plug and play with no confusing set-ups and not that many useless inclusive programs to deal with. The sleek, uncomplicated design gives it the edge over other USB devices I have shopped for. With the great price and usage, I'd say I came out on top. I have yet to use all the space and when I do I'll be sure to start shopping for another one!

I have 3 of the SanDisk USB memory sticks which have be totally reliable and with the retractable USB port are unique. U3 programs provided allow much more flexibility than most memory sticks.

Drive fits in my "watch pocket" and is there when I want to save a web screen or other files I want to save.

It went through the washing machine once but after just letting it dry out, I plugged it in and it worked fine.

I love it, but i HATE the U3. easy to remove it though. Autorun on U3 makes your computer vunerable to viruses, so remove U3.

[...] If you want to transfer files larger than 4gb, you have to format the drive to NTFS. Some other people might complain about the software that is preloaded on the drive, but you can choose to uninstall it, and it will never bother you again.(It is backed up on the drive if you ever want to reinstall it & doesn't take up much space) I like the fact that its in FAT32, I can plug it directly into my Xbox360 and watch movies from it with out any loss in quality. Good for music too.

one thing that annoyed me is that i had an .iso image that was about 4 gigs and it wouldn't let me save it on the flash drive because the file was too big.. even tho the stick is 8 gigs. other than that its pretty good.

To optimize this drive's performance you need to go to disk drives under device manager and click properties then choose optimize for performance. The system may ask you to reboot. Afterwords just make sure you safely remove the drive before physically disconnecting it from the system and it should be smooth sailing.

I use this drive for both work and personal as its high capacity and speed allow me to run many programs from the drive in real time with no difference in speed vs using a program installed on the local hard disk.

This is a great little drive. I always lose the removable cap on other drives so I like the fact that this one is retractable. I have had several of them (2 or 4 Gb) and I have never had a problem. Perfect for storing my power point presentations.

If you are using flash for ready boost, keep in mind that all flash drives have a finite number of writes before the transistor storing the data is no longer usable. I think it's on the order of something like 100,000. For casual use, you'll probably never even approach that, but if your OS is using it as cache and constantly reading/writing to it all day long, that might become an issue. With regard to "properly ejecting" the device... The only reason windows cares about ejecting a flash device is because it wants to make sure you don't lose data. That is why you often are not allowed to eject, you are accessing data somehow by either having a file open or some other problem. The bottom line? If you know you aren't writing data to the drive, you can just pull it out without ejecting it. You don't need permission from your operating system to remove the drive. It's not going to hurt anything and even if you do interrupt a write, the worst that can happen is you lose the data. Seeing as how USB drives are typically used for copying and pasting (especially drives this large), that's no big loss because you still have the original data.In the realm of USB flash, capacity to price ratio is king and this one (at present price of [$] for 8GB) is unheard of.

I just used this for the first time at my job as a reference librarian, and I swear I did everything right, but I could not for the life of me get either computer I used this on (both running Windows XP) to let me eject it properly in spite of me closing Word before ejecting and such. Also, I noticed the amber light on the thing repeatedly dimming and brightening -- what's up with that?

Anyways, the refusal to let me do a proper eject with this thing worries me...

I just pruchase this and here I am the 2nd day taking it back. It just went dead. It was easy to use and transfer speed was very god. I just didn't like the plastic feel like it was ready to break if you handle it to hard. I'll let you know after I get the replacement, but am thinking twice now

I have purchased three of these drives from my local RS, and had to return one of them, and kept one that doesn't really work. The first one I bought worked fine, for about 3 months (I was using it as a Readyboost drive) then it stopped being recognized by Vista. The second and third drives I bought are doing the strangest thing. The red light on the 2nd & 3rd drive do NOT just flash off and on, it 'dims' most of the time and does not hold data. The first one I purchased, the red light flashed very quickly all the time (when in use) and readyboost worked well. I saw an improvement in my system responsiveness, and booting Vista was quicker. However, after just three months the first drive stopped working for Readyboost well, so I bought my 2nd. When I put in the second on, I noticed that it was not flashing as fast, and the red light would 'dim' a lot instead of flashing. I took it back, got another, and it did the same thing. [...] Buyer beware!!!

I'll admit that the software it has can be annoying but it is completely removable with the uninstaller provided on the sandisk website. Other than that, I love the retractable usb plug, I carry this on my keychain, and no lint problems after over a year. I always blow into it just in case before I plug it in though.

The retractabke connector stops any chance of loosing detachable covers used by other designs.

By the way one of these got left in my blue jeans and went thru a WASHING Machine CYCLE! Nokidding! It worked perfectly after a 5 min stint hanging in front of a fan to dry it out!
I am seriously impressed (and thnakful for not loosing my data!).

I use this on a daily basis to transfer all of my text documents back and forth. Very useful and small. Works like a little blade with no caps to lose. I like this style so much I have given it as gifts to friends and family. The only con is the U3 software, I dont need it or want it, so I uninstalled it.

Most, if not all other brands have a removable cover for the end. This brand simply has the connection slide in and out, but it is not protected from dirt etc if carried in the pocket. Either every other brand in inferior to this one or the brand is inferior to all others.
