As the manager of a Radio shack I have sold a few of these and my display TV which is on from about 8am to 8pm a day has never once flickered or showed and signs of failure. I have read all the review knocking the quality of this TV and I'd say its a nice tv for a decent price considering what it offers.
Scott customer service/company is a joke. After calling numerous time the non-working TV is still not resolved. TV still under warrenty, can't find a service center. All customer service can do is send e-mail to corp. office but can not give out phone number or email addy for such office. This TV is less than a year old and just turned off one day and will not come back on...no picture...no sound...just a blank screen. I would not recommend this TV or company to...family...friends or my worst foe. It's not worth the aggravation, headaches or frustration.
SCOTT revamp your policies...the customer is always right.
I had the set just over a year when the remote stopped working. 2 universals remotes later, nothing. As we all know that there is no fun watching television without a remote!!!
The only thing I want to say is, after few months of having the TV stop working, call the manufacturer on 12/05/07 because by that time still on warranty and as of today 05/16/2008 I am sitting waiting for a replacement. Have to pay to send the tv to the factory and also if I do not talk the way I did it I may had to buy the box too. [...]This is the worst investment I did in my whole life.
I've had my tv for almost a year and a half, and I have never had any problems with it (knock on wood). It survived a dorm room, so I think it'll survive a lot. It's been great!
Attractive price, maybe I got what I paid for. The warranty is a joke
Radio Shack should be ASHAMED of themselves. Owned this garbage for exactly one year and twelve days. The same problem that many others have had with this system...the power quits. Nothing has been done to correct this problem and Scott TVs (which I believe are a product of Philips) are a joke. Have contacted the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU and they do not recommend anybody to do business with this company.Twelve days after the warranty expired, television loses all power. Start doing research and find that nobody wants to help fix...that means Radio Shack and Television Company. So, I ask store manager if he is aware of what others are saying about this product and he states "no." So I told the store manager that he should be ashamed of himself for selling a piece of [*]to any customer. WELL INFORMED...Not!!!SHAME ON YOU RADIO SHACK AND SCOTT...You have lost my business for good...almost willing to throw this television through your front window at the Ogdensburg, NY store.I would not recommend this television to anyone...even my worst enemy!!! STAY AWAY FROM RADIO SHACK!!!!!!!!!!
This was great for my "special movies" and it was great for the kids. I just love it!!
It was my main set, my ps3 monitor, and my computer monitor. I used the HDMI port, the Component input, and the VGA input. I used to be a RS sales associate. Thankful that I actually believed in the radioshack service plan because this thing lasted 4 months out of the box. In every source the screen flashed from solid black to white to red to green to blue. The sound was fine but I couldn't sit and watch a show. Got the set replaced by radioshack service plans, and they let me keep the scott so I took it to a service center since it was still within the one year manufacturer's warranty and I haven't seen it yet.
Radio Shack will not stand by this TV. My Scott just quite working 9 months into my purchase. I had to pry warranty information out of my local store. Finally got an 800 number to Akai after several attempts. Once I called Akai, I was promised in home repair within 3 weeks. After waiting several more weeks, I again called. I was told there was no local service center in my area.
Again, after several more weeks I received a call from a TV dealer asking what my problem was. They had never heard of an Akai or Scott TV and would not come out to fix it unless I was willing to pay for the service. Once again, RS would not help resolve this, co I have a dead Scott TV that worked poorly for 9 months....for a total cost of ****.
I will not buy from RS again....and I certainly will not purchase anything from Scott or Akai!
Remote is terrible. Won't interface with other remotes, i.e. DTV.
THE TV ONLY LASTED 3 WEEKS JUST TURNED OFF ON ITS OWN TOOK IT RIGHT BACK IN TO THE STORE AND THEY WERE "FIXING IT" IT TOOK ALMOST 2 MONTHS TO GET THIS RESOLVED I WOULD CALL THE COMPANY EVERY DAY FINALLY I GOT MY CASK BACK AND I GOT TO KEEP THE T.V. THAT WAS THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT ALL OF THIS CHAOS. AND I GOT MY SELF A SONY INSTEAD SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT ALL OF YOU OUT THERE THAT CAN'T GET THIS RESOLVED YET.
Purchased in July, Does not work in April. Scott cannot find anyone in our area to service. Beware
3 months and 1 day after I bought this tv, the reviews came true. NO POWER. Called AKAI and stayed on hold for 2 hours, then hung up. Went to Radio Shack and he called and got through in 10 minutes. Was told to fax the reciept and could not get through for 3 days. Called back and they gave me a 2nd fax number and did not get an answer. Radio Shack manager said he would replace, but had to get 1 from another store. 3 days later TV came in cracked. Now looking for a new TV.
My HDMI port recently quit working on my scott tv, and the remote control only about half the buttons work and I cant find any replacement remotes, can I please get some help from other customers on where to call to get replacements on either thing or how just to contact scott, I cant figure it out!
I would never recommend this TV to a friend or an enemy. The sound is poor, the power just quit, and I paid more than I should have. The warranty just expired. I purchased a TV/VCR combo TV in Japan in 1989 and it still works, even after numerous moves and miles of travel. Scott should be embarrassed to sell such a CHEAP product!!!!
ant get anyone to help fix or even give the right phone numbers of a repairman to call. People are very rude when you call. Mmaybe scott should be turned into the better business bureau & this tv should be recalled. The only people that tried to help us were our locale radio shack dealer.
Bought this TV for a vacation home. After only using it for 3 weeks in a year it only plays in black and white. No color. Warranty up. Remember you get what you pay for.
We got this tv for christmas 2007. Set it up Christmas day to watch the parade, 2 hours later the picture went out. We had sound, just no picture. We had warranty so we took it in as soon as we could and radio shack replaced it. We set it up in a spare room, afraid to use it. Recently set it up in the living room again to use with PS3. It lasted maybe 6 months. We were watching TV and it just turned off and wont turn back on. Luckily we still have warranty so we will be going to trade it in for the 2nd time, hopefully this next one will last at least a year or until we save up enough cash to buy a nicer tv.
Akia kept giving me the run-around for three months. They are a poor customer relation company. [...]
there was nothing good with this tv its worth about 50.00 the packaging it came with
Had T.V. 5 months and it started shutting off on its own. T.V. is under warranty and still no resolve to date. Have the feeling I'm going to get screwed since no service centers are in my area. No codes for universal remotes.
THIS TV STARTED TO WHISTLE AND SHUT OFF, NOT TO COME BACK ON,[*] THEY SHOULD TRASH THE SCOOT TV ITS USELESS
Audio is terrible, 90% of universal remotes cannot be used with it. Stopped working after 4 months due to circuitry failure.
Buy the extended warranty. The system power supply fried 13 months after purchase. The factory warranty is 12! [$]out of pocket fixed the TV...
This is a GREAT LCD TV for the money. I don't have any of the issues some of the others mention, no hum, and the sound and picture are very good both with an HD source, and co-ax straight in from the wall. I use this in my bedroom and have no complaints except when used as a computer monitor.
Unfortunately the only VGA supported modes provide for a screen that is a little "squished". The resolution modes that would provide for a good monitor output, such as 1920 x 1080 are not supported and cause the screen to go black. When an S video connection is used, which does support any mode your graphics card will give you, the picture does not fill the entire screen leaving a black 3" "frame" around your desktop or whatever program you are running. I am upgrading my video card to support DVI out but as of now do not know if that will help.
Great value, very good picture, and no problems so far.
The TV reads and says its 720P/1080i.. NOT TRUE. i am using my 360 through the VGA plug and i get 1080p. PS3 onl;y 720p. not that i care... the audio can be bad. just turn base down. also the TV is huge. i though it looked small in the store and was gona buy a 42" instead.. but i went with this. dont be suprised if people mistake it for 42" the 1 complaint i got is only 1 RCA component plug so my dreamcast/xbox/wii/ps2/ps2 all need to be switched manualy... uhhhhh. but other then that. enough plugs. 1 vga for my 360, i HDMI for my PS3 and 2 composits. its easy to get behind the TV and do waht u need 2. i jsut cant believe how amazing it is. i recomend this to anyone looking for a tv that looks liek a $2000 model but cost u almost 1/4 the price.
Have had no problems yet, however the TV is not compatible with DirecTV remote control. That is the only downside to this TV. Great Picture in HD. The price is a lot cheaper than when I purchased mine in March 07.
My mother got this about 4 months ago and while she was watching her program she said it started to hum and then it went up in smoke. The circuit board for the power melted and there are no replacement parts out there that i have been able to find for this. If you have it check you will find that it is a LG Philips product. [...]
Unfortunately, I did't know until I purchased the product that it was not compatible with DishTV remotes. This is a real bother.
Got a great deal on this TV! It is the perfect centerpiece for a home entertainment center in a small apartment. It was relatively easy to assemble the stand... approximately a 20 minute setup once I got it in the living room. Recommended!
I haven't seen any of these lines you people speak of the strange humming noise seems to change depending on the colour its displaying at the time which leads me to believe since lcd's themselves run on frequencies *meaning Hz* I can only asume that this is what is causing the noise. As for the sound I wouldn't know because my receiver does all of that noise :)
I bought this to put in my office. It's not the main TV. Checked out all comparable others, and finally [...]bought this display model right off the shelf for [$]. Has some of the same quirks as stated - mono/stereo changing on it's own, intermittent audio on some news channels. For what I needed, it is defintely the best of all the 7 others I checked. The picture is great, clear and crisp, unless I'm up close.
had for 8 months and stopped turning on! [...] still no resolutionech [...] fix this as is still under warrantee. do not recommend!

For the money, you're not going to find a better value. It's a good picture, not great. As for all the people who can't get it to work with a universal remote, that's fairly common in a new model TV. Give the remote companies a while, and they will catch up. If you don't have the patience to wait, get a philips programable remote (available at [...] for about [$]!). You can program this remote to control ANY function of the TV.

For only being 1o months old this TV has been a real let down.
Worked great for the 1st 7 months then we noticed a black line running verticle on the right side of the screen and a month later the volume started jumping up and down.
Rating from a 1-10 I would have to rate this a 1 or 2 !

Terrible support from Akai/Scott
LCD developed a 1/4 wide fuzzy vertical line after 6 months.
Akai sent out a tech to repair for guaranteed in-home service. Tech determined it was unrepairable, stated no replacement LCD available. TV Should be replaced.
Akai office cancelled replacement and demanded it be returned for repair with a 6-8 week wait. Several resolutions were promised only to be cancelled by a manager.
Promised a box and UPS code were both in the mail weeks ago. I haven't seen either yet.
Even had Akai contact us to see if we were happy with the replacement we were originally promised.
Nightmare has been going on for over two months.
My 1-year warranty is almost out.
Look for another brand this holiday season.
This TV is really great. Good picture quality and for the price you can't beat it. I even like the color better than the same priced AKAI [who makes this product]. Altogether if you got the cash its a good investment and at the price it wont even break your piggy bank.
I even tried the Akai codes, since I hear Scott TVs are just refurbished Akai TVs, but that didn't even work. Not being able to have a universal remote is more annoying than you would think. Its a pain to adjust the volume with one remote, and change the channel with the other. Also, the TV has been shutting down randomly as of late, which is equally annoying.
Great Picture with grreat sound when compared to other in its price range. I looked forever and found this was the best deal.
I agree with the other posts about the good quality and price, but like the others I cannot get any other remote control to program correctly. Specifically, neither TiVo nor Harmony will work. To the poster who said they got the Harmony to work: how? Was there any trick or ideas to pass along?
Love the TV don't like the fact there is no univseral remote. [...] It's a pain because of that. Take a while when turning on.
Amazed at the quality of this LCD. Picture quality is supurb through HDMI and component and it brings life to my computer system which I connected via the VGA/DVI input. Glad I bought it [$].
Great Picture and color but can not get the TV codes to work with my cable companies remote. That remote has been fine with other TVs, but not this one. The TV will go back
[...] The issue with going from mono to stero can be stopped two ways- use the mts on remote this will switch it for a while, if your connected to the wall outlet for cable put a cable box on and run the red, yellow, white cable from the box video out put to the video input on the tv
awesome tv. great price. universal remote doesnt work:)
Sound quality is poor. Keeps switching from Mono to Sterio on it's own. SCOTT support is a mess. The phone # has been busy for 3 days!, i5t's going back.
Works with the harmony remote. Great value!!!
This set is awesome for the value. The only con, which people on the board have already said, is that we can't get it to work with a universal remote control. Has anyone tried a Logitech Harmony remote with this?
excellent value I really love mine-had no problems except cant program the universal remote whats up with that?
Audio/Sound does not work correctly. Going back....Radio Shack has been very helpful with this problem..A+++++++for that
Excellent buy for the price. Great Hd picture with a hd receiver. Only downside unable to use a universal remote with it.
not a bad t.v. for the price...but i keep hearing this buzzing noise that correspondes to changes in the picture scenes.think i'm taking this one back if i can't figure out the problem because it gets real irritating.that's what you get when you try and save a couple of bucks.
Ok picture but it has a humming sound that wont stop. It's going back
Great TV for the price. I use it for various game systems and occasionally as a computer monitor.
I am pleased with the Scott LCD wide screen TV. But am unhappy with the fact that I haven't found a compatible remote control for it.
This TV is a great buy with a gret picture (wish it had more audio outputs) but SCOTT lacks customer support. I havent found any compatible remotes and I can't use my DTV remote to operate the TV--
This line of lcd televisions is great. The price makes it even better. I am pleased that RS is carrying LG, I will be in to buy another one shortly!
this TV rocks! It has more inputs than others in its priceline, and has a great picture. I use it for a computer monitor as well as my HDTV. Look at this brand before you buy anything!
This is my second 37" lcd tv that I purchased from RS. The first was an Olivia and it did cost more but had a better picture and more features. For the price this tv is a good buy.
This TV was a great buy. Capable of all the features I was looking for and about 250 dollars cheaper then what i was looking to spend.
