My daughter has this unit and said the sound was very good. Radio Shack had a FABULOUS sale on it, so I snatched one up. The sound quality really is much better than portable speakers I have had in the past.
I really like the re-chargeable battery so I don't have to scrounge up a boatload of batteries when I take it outside.

The pull-down dock and stand seem a little flimsy. I wish it came with some sort of travel case.

I use this little sound system to teach dance class in all different size rooms - I usually only have to turn the volume up halfway for it to pack a punch for a good-sized rec room. My only worry is the possibility of damaging it in transit - someone definitely needs to create a protective bag with compartments for the power cord and of course, your iPod.

I looked at a lot of reviews on the internet before I purchased this dock. Overall the reviews seemed too good to be true. Great sound, easy to use and portable with a built in battery. I have to say the reviews were right. The sound quality produced is impressive from such a small set of speakers. The bass is not earth shaking as you would expect, but is very adequate expecially in SFX mode. The highs are clean and they complement the bass levels very well. I own some very highend audio equiptment so my standards can be high. The IM600 exceeded my expectations for its size. I would definitely recommend this dock and at the sale price [$] it's a no brainer.

I like the unit. It sounds good, is easy to use. Only "con" is that in trying to set the 4th FM preset on the remote, the system changes the channel to 88.1. Have not been able to find a workaround. Other than that, I like it.

I really liked this compact great sound machine!! Two major problems though- the Ipod has to be propped to keep it from shutting off for one. Second issue- the speaker blew out- when I put the volume up high!! I am so bummed about this!!!

I use the iM600 for background music for comedy routines. The sound is great but I needed a system which could be completely controlled by remote. This system fails miserably for that function. Also, the user manual is lacking in detail information regarding use of the remote. You are on your own by trial and error.

I tried this and several other units out at a couple of stores with my own iPod. This unit has very good sound, and the fact that it is small, portable and has a rechargeable battery makes it great to use around the apartment or to take it along elsewhere.

The bass won't rattle your windows and the maximum volume might get swallowed up in a large, noisy room or outdoors, but I the unit is great for its size.

Very easy to use right out of the box.

This is a great little device. I like that I can use it without a cord, it's lightweight, and very portable. The remote is handy, but it doesn't control the iPod after the iPod sleeps (volume and power still work, however). Sound quality isn't perfect, but it's very good, and more than adequate for my needs. Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase.

I use the product in my home. Its very compact, fits well on any table (have it on an end table next to couch). The sound is great, especially considering the size. Only cons are that the dock can be touchy/sensitive, and the remote is very flimsy. First one broke after a few days. The volume worked fine, tuner fine, but with the ipod docked, you couldn't scroll through any songs. Altec replaced it for free, but the same thing happened to the 2nd remote. I gave up, and will just enjoy my mixed playlist. You can still scroll through songs, but you have to use the ipod, not the remote (defeats the whole purpose of having a remote)

Good sound for the size of unit. My work environment demands that I have a unit that allows frequent location changes and easy storage (with very limited storage area) and this unit fits the bill. Small size trades off on bass but less than expected.

Caveat emptor! Note iM600 I purchased at local Radio Shack store does NOT charge iTouch 2nd Gen. No iM600 that has SFX button on top to right of Source button will charge an iTouch 2nd Gen. iM600's from Altec Lansing that say ? #1 is the fact that this was so much less expensive than the other brand that I did purchase and,subsequently,returned. The size is perfect for my counterspace, as well as for portability. The ONLY negative is the antenna that is needed to listen to FM radio.I am a casual listner and the sound is great for my needs. My Nano iPod does charge while on the base. I purchased the IM600 for road trips, when we take our small travel trailer on multi-day vacations. We often find ourselves in camps without electric hookups, so relatively long battery life is a definite advantage. Since our trailer is tiny, the IM600's compactness is appreciated.

I like having the ability to listen to live radio, as well as music. Many portable speaker systems do not have this feature. The sound quality is very decent for its size, as well. The remote control stays with the unit, so that it is less likely to get lost.

I wish that the IM600 had a protective cover; but we happened to have a lined plastic bag that it fit into. Had we not had this, it would have been relatively easy to make a felt-lined pouch. However, it would have been nice to have one provided in the box, especially since the system's surface can be easily scratched.

Great audio from a little device. Got it for my wife for Christmas. She loves it! Awesome price compared to other big box stores. Definitely order on-line through RadioShack. This was one of the best ipod dock stations i have ever had and this one had the best QUALITY for treble, small bass, but enough to where it is necessary in songs. Dosent wash out or white noise when set at maximum volume. REALLY CRISP AND LOUD.

CON: had it for 3 weeks, and the ipod connector was already broken due to normal use of taking it in and out. Wished they made a more durable one. Other than That This is a good buy, but you have to be extremely OCD to keep its life span long, Yet the point of it is to use it for travel. Ironic!

This IM600 model has the SFX button and does not charge the iPod Touch, although it docks and plays in the unit. AlTec Lansing customer service states there is a revised IM600 model (identified with the ESS button) that will charge the iPod Touch when in the cradle. Touch buyers be aware of this serious charging limitation. This is my only negative and fixed in the latest version. Sound is great, and I like portability with recharging lithium battery.

Ordered it online and thought it was as big as the Bose. I was sceptical about the sound from such a small package but once i inserted my ipod in and cranked up the volume a was pleasantly surprised. Almost measures up to the Bose but but at a fraction of the price. It even has a radio tuner that workes great and a small remote. I would highly recommend IM600 for anyone who wants a bose sound without a Bose price.

I purchased this product after seeing decent reviews and claims of iPod compatibility on its Web site and packaging. However, when I opened the box there was a small piece of paper on top that warned that it does not charge 4th gen iPod nanos. Apparently, Apple eliminated the FireWire circuitry from the 4th gen nanos and the FireWire interface was what this box was using to power the docked iPod, instead of the USB interface.

So, I had no use for a dock that drained my iPod of power and I returned it to the store.

We bought this unit because we were getting married in a place that had no sound system. It worked GREAT!! Sound is clear and bright, loud enough but gets soft for in-room.
We will be traveling a couple of times a year, and this will go into our travel kit.
It could be just a bit more compact, but it does pack well into a larger suitcase.

Great for easily amplifying iPod music, Podcasts, and - important for me - listening to FM radio. Sound is full & clear. Very compact remote for easily changing radio stations via 4 presets or scan, navigating thru music, managing volume & power. I use 2 iM600's in my house for radio coverage (NPR interviews, news) on two floors & for music or Podcasts while I work (classical, rock, world). Its compact size gives flexible placement choices. I don't use it with batteries, so can't comment on that. It does easily fold up to an even more compact configuration for carrying.

Great Ipod speaker. I picked it up during the Black Friday madness so I got it heavily discounted. I def recommend it. Loud enough for outdoor use and portable so you can carry it in your backpack after charging it. Only issue is the Iphone and Ipod touch don't fit snugly into the receiver. Great price from Radio Shack for an excellent product. Bought as a gift for my daughter and she absolutely loves it. Has a small footprint on her dresser and provides fantastic sound for such a small unit. The base is not that deep but it is sufficient for a small room. My only concern is that of my daughter or one of her friends accidentally breaking the aluminum antenna as they are simply fragile by design. It pulls in stations very clearly but I wish there was an internal antenna that worked as good.

This little system does exactly what you would expect from Altec Lansing. It produces a good quality sound and bass production for a component of its size. This compact unit pumps out excellent sound. I had purchased a larger, bulkier Sony model and returned it due to the muddy sound. Great sounding small unit that provides good bass. The Li-ion battery lasts quite a while and recharges quickly. I wish it had an AM band for the radio. It doesn't recharge my new iPod Touch, but that's not that a big deal. Great for improving the sound of laptops.

We love this little speaker system. Bought it Dec. 08 before the holidays at a phenomenal price. Wish we would of bought two. Been watching it ever since, but just couldnn't bring ourselves to pay full price. During Feb. 09, we saw it go down to almost half so ran in to buy the second one. Great speaker...no regrets. Not a Bose, but darn near close. Since it advertises that it charges the ipod, however, our Nano 4G isn't charging,...I only gave it 4 stars. If it charged our Nano, I would definitely give it 5 stars.

You can't expect anything better for the price. I love the fact that it can charge iPod if unplugged for about 8 hours unlike other similar products in the market. The only thing I hate about this piece is the remote; it's is not very functional.

I was about ready to throw away my old ipod. It was so banged up that it wouldn't keep a charge. Now though, with this speaker system, it continually charges and it's a perfect use for the old ipod. I am immensely happy with it. Plus the cordless function lets me take it outside and on the road.

We use this as a radio and ipod dock in our house since we don't have a stereo system. The sound is great, and we love the portability. We take it outside when we're working in the yard, we even took it on a long car ride since our ipod connector for the car doesn't work well. Love the charging capability. It was also on a GREAT sale, so I got a tremendous value for my money. It was already cheaper than other docks that rated excellent on c-net, and Radioshack had the best price on this item. I think this is by far the best ipod dock for under $100. Most of the other docks with radios are bulky and clock radio types too, and this one is much more compact and sharp looking. Love everything about it!

This is a great portable stereo! For what it is, it cranks out the music, charges your ipod. We use an MP3 player with it as well. I think it is unfair to compare it to a Bose, because it is a portable unit. For what it does, it will fill the room with a great sound. We bought it at Radio Shack for less than $70.00 and at that price it is a great buy. It comes with a chargeable battery and an FM tuner as well.

The sound quality is rather amazing from this small unit. However it is not the type of player that would be suitable for a large space or large party. I use it around the house to play music or podcasts as background to other activities. We've also taken it on trips to have music in hotel rooms; it would be great for camping with no danger of running down the battery on your vehicle. Beside the sound quality the thing I like best about this player is the built-in battery which provides several hours play time. This allows you to move the player from place to place without the bother of plugging it in.

The stand and the base that holds the iPod fold flat to the case for transport. When closed the player is about the size of a large book. The speaker grills and the face of the player are exposed so you need to be a little careful about how you pack it. It's not something you can throw in a tool box.

I was hoping the FM radio would allow me to get rid of the boombox in my workshop, but the FM reception on the IM600 is not as good as my ten or fifteen year old boombox.

Excellent Sound! You can't beat this player for quality and price. Spend hundreds on a Bose system if you want bragging rights, but this system will give you much more overall satisfaction. My only con is that the MP3 holder should provide a better fit.

I had already done some research on similar products before making this purchase. The overall sound is just as the reviews indicated...awesome. I purchased the product for my husband who is a professional musician, so sound quality was of utmost importance. He loves it. It is very easy to use and the perfect size for stowing away in an overnight bag. We especially like that it charges our i-pods as well. Only regret is that I should have bought two, one for each of us.

The description did not say that it won't charge an the latest version of the Ipod touch. It worked really well for about 7 days, then the connection for the Ipod stopped working. The radio still works, but I can no longer play the Ipod.

I got this for my wife to use with her ipod at her office. She loves it. The FM radio in the iM600 is good and gives her additional listening avenues. The iM600 doesn't take up much space but has far better sound from it than the previous unit - which was bigger - plus it looks really nice. Wish I had bought one for myself at home while the price was so good !

Note that if you get an older unit that doesn't charge your iPod touch, you only need to add a AC to USB charger adapter. Roughly $10. Plug one end into an AC outlet and the other end into the USB jack on the back of the radio and instant charging!

Great product. Good, crisp sound and easy to use.
Only downside is that it's sometimes hard to get the plastic IPOD type adjusters in and out, although they aren't necessary so it's not a real issue.

Nice features and very good sound in a small, lightweight package. Handsome unit, not out of place in an office. Built in battery convenient and makes for portable use, but ipod is not secured on this dock, so stricktly a tabletop deal. Use this player in the bedroom where it sits neatly on the night table. The volume is good enough for most uses but gets a bit distorted at the high end. The remote could be a bit bigger and have more features to control the ipod - it also tends to pop out the back too easily. Overall, a solid player that gets the job done - would definitely recommend buying. Now I wish I had gotten the 4 speaker model.

Great sound for the size. Included radio and rechargeable batteries are a HUGE bonus over other alternatives. Love the way the remote fits into the collapsed speaker for travel. Have already traveled internationally with it. At first, + volume button on unit did not work (but it did on the remote), but with time (and travel?) it corrected itself! Apparently, one needs to get the updated model if one wants to use it with the latest iPods and iPhones - but that wasn't an issue for me.

Overall it sounds good. I like the SFX, it makes a real difference on the sound when you have fix mounted speakers close to each other. I sit with it to the left of my computer and the SFX really makes it sound like both speakers are next to each ear, instead of the sound coming from a central point. Con is that you need the remote to change the radio station presets.

It has been only two months have to send it back for repair with altec lansing. Contact point of the unit lossen up and they are replacing it.

I love this docking system for my ipod. It sounds great & doesn't take up a lot of counter space. I have not had the opportunity to take advantage of it's battery life, but probably will once the weather breaks. Extremely pleased with this ipod speaker system, especially for the very reasonable sale price. Has met all expectations. I use the speakers almost every day. System provides a full, rich sound that fills up any room and provides enough volume to be used at a group party. The slim and lightweight unit with its built in rechargeable battery, as well as AC adapter, makes it easy to move from room to room in the house or use outdoors. Seems hard to justify the extra $250 dollars for a BOSE unit. FM radio is good to have as another listening option. Having a clock feature would be nice, but would likely make the price be higher, so not a significant drawback. Plus the im600 had much better sound than any ipod clock radio that I listened to.

Radio Shack had a really great deal on these - I got it for [$] and free shipping; regular retail is as high as $149. I like the features: it folds up for travel, AC or Battery powered, FM Radio, and Remote control. The sound is good, but don't expect audiophile quality. I have the Bose Sounddock Series II and nothing beats Bose. It's great for using around the house, outdoors, and for travel. The sound is much better than the cheap docking systems out there. All in all I'm very satisfied.

Great portable iPod/Radio device. Excellent sound quality, good bass. Loud for a notebook size box. Not as loud as a big boom box. Battery is rechargeable and last about 4-5 hours at loudest level. Longer at moderate sound levels.

I love the Altec Lansing inMotion® iM600 Portable Audio System. I have tested a lot of other iPod audio systems, but I have found the sound quality overall to be inferior. To be honest, I originally wanted the Bose system, but it was way out of my budget. The Altec Lansing inMotion® iM600 is great because it's much more affordable and has great sound as well!!! I am really enjoying hearing my iPod outside of my earbuds!

I do wish however that the iM600 was fully compatible with the newest iPod nanos. If I want to purchase a new nano, the system will play but it will not charge the nano. Also, the remote control is small so you have to be careful not to lose it.

This is a little music box that sounds great considering its size. It isn't a Bose, that's for sure. But the sounds is crisp and the bass is very decent. I even bought a second one for a gift, and the recipient loved it.

I think the system is good for the price point and compared to other portable systems in the market, this offer far greater value for the price. Not necessarily the greatest sound quality, but it is definitely has some good points, the classical music and treble's are good, the spatial seperation is OK, not very great, specially with the SFX off. The bad is the bass, which is again ok and could be improved further unlike the bose which has a better bass, but the FM adds value to the whole unit, giving it more usable functions than the bose.

I love this radio/iPod player. It has absolutely fabulous sound which really surprised me considering its compact size. I have one at the office and one at home and bought one for a friend. In Motion says that it is compatible with the new IPOD Touch. Although it will work as a speaker, the speaker system will not recharge this phone as it does older IPODS...this was definitely a disappointment to my grandson. The sound is very good.

If you cannot get your remote to work with the iPod, check to see if you've removed the rather thick shrink wrap coating over the entire remote. That could be a major part of your frustration. Secondly, if your ipod is in a skin, or not resting on a dock, that might cause the remote not to work fully.

This player is amazing, given its primary function: a portable hi-end dock for ipods. I'd have given it a 5, but i'm left looking for a case to travel with it. Case Logic 72-disc cd/dvd binders work well.

I purchased this online when it was on sale at Cmas because the reviews from CNet.com were outstanding. When I walked into my local Radio Shack, just looking around, and told the store mgr I had purchased this system, he said he would NOT recommend this model as most of the ones he sold were returned b/c of a 'broken button'. Not sure what that meant...?

Anyway, my daughter used it for maybe a week, and then I tried it and it's a piece o' "*%#@". I plugged it into the wall, put the ipod touch on the dock, started the song, and it sounded fine. Tried to adjust the volume down, nothing happened. Tried using the remote, nothing happened. Unplugged the unit, reopened and started over - it wouldn't play at all.

When my daughter was using it, she had some problems that I was unaware of, but the husband knew about. I never could get it to play again.

I cannot IMAGINE paying full price for this thing and having that experience. In my opinion, even the sale price is WAY TOO MUCH money to pay for something that takes that much work to use and then dies that quick. When my daughter was using, we could never turn it off w/o unplugging and closing the system and reopening. Taking it back. As far as reviews go - you can't believe everything you read.

Nice unit but make sure you get a current model. The model I bought on sale does not charge the second generation iPod touch. Not fully compatible in my book! From what I was told from the manufacturer, the most current models have been modified to include charging of all iPods.

Unless you really have a tin ear and can't distinguish good from bad sound, pass on this. I couldn't pass up the price, on sale for 1/6 of the Bose Sounddock Portable. But...the sound at high volumes is distorted and there is little bass to speak of. If you hear a Bose in comparison you will be disappointed.

It is otherwise a very good unit, includes FM, great rechargeable battery, good looking, convenient, good remote and lightweight.

If sound matters to you, you will be disappointed. If you aren't that fussy about sound, this is otherwise a very nice unit.

Two other things. Because it's deficient on bass, there is an ad that comes with the unit for a portable sub woofer but it is no longer for sale. The fact that they had this in mind indicates that they knew of the lack of bass but, unlike Bose, were not able to find a self contained solution.

Lastly, it will not charge the iTouch or iPhone or any iPod unless connected to a wall outlet.

If possible, listen to the sound before buying and also compare the the Bose just so that you understand what you are buying

All I can say is WOW!!! The setup is easy. The sound is crystal clear and at half-volume it fills my 3600 sq. foot house. I just spent time listening to the Bose system at my sister's and frankly there is NO difference. I actually think this is more stylish. You cannot go wrong with this little gem.

Very good product but beware if using for iphone or 4th gen nano. If unit has SFX Stereo Field Expander it will not charge iphone or 4th gen nano. Unit must say ESS Expanded Sound Stage technology then it is compatible with 4th gen nano and iphone. Read outside of packaging to see if it is SFX or ESS.

I bought this product for my brother for his birthday and I couldn't have found a better one for the price! The sound is great, the radio works very well, and it has a very modern look. I like it even more than my speakers which cost triple the amount.

Before buying this unit, I had listened to other portable units and, other than Bose, I was always disappointed in the sound quality. This unit has terrific sound quality. Even at high volume, the quality is very good. I highly recommend!

This is not the best ipod speaker system but great for a small room. The internal rechargeable battery sold me for camping and outside activity. At [$] this is a nice buy.

iM600 does not charge iPod Touch 2nd Gen. There is a note states that it only plays music for iPod touch in the box. Wish that Altec Lansing and Radio Shack would have stated this in the tech. spec. for the online orders.

it charges for ipod touch 2g although it said not.
you need connect both its charger and mini usb back of speaker from electric power than your ipod and speaker both will be charged at all the time for sure.

A super value and the sound quality a real surprise.
The majority of the reviews on the web were highly positive and they were correct. The negative comments were very few, a couple where there was a product defect (again very few) and several from people who I guess were expecting concert level sound from a portable payer (unrealistic).

This is a player that is surprising in the quality of the sound and construction and a real value compared to the Bose system or the higher priced players.

A purchase I sincerely do not regret and only a finicky person would not be satisfied.

Sound Quality is great as one would expect with Altec lansing, Crystal clear even for FM.
Only problem:
The Remote Battery is separate and manual does not have any way to attach it. I had to go to Altec Lansing support website and get some directions. After which also Remote does not function.

We received this as a gift and I love it. It has better sound than the [$] Boss system my mom just bought. So my Mom is returning her Boss and going to buy this model. These stereos seem to make your iPod work a little clunky after plugging it into the devise but it's worth the ability to charge and play at the same time. The sound is great and very bright for such a tiny stereo. Plus, unlike Boss system it's an AM/FM radio as well with a display.

Compared to Bose this is a great buy. Its great for tailgating the beach or the bedside table. Its easy to use and easy to carry. Its not a high tech item but it fits me for my uses.

Great sound! I use it for my iPod and radio on a daily basis. I have had my unit for over 6 months, it is light, easy to carry around, and loud enough for most situations.
